4. WHO WOULD BE THE

AUDIENCE FOR YOUR MEDIA

PRODUCT?

Page 2: 4. Who would be the audience for your media product?

This was my initial main audience for my media product, it is still the same audience that my magazine is targeting. The main audience is young adults because they are old enough to be able to go to festivals, and afford the costs of travelling if they wanted to. The magazine is aimed at both genders in order to allow for a bigger target market. My product is aimed mostly at those who like to listen to music, otherwise there would be no use for them buying a music magazine if they weren’t interested in what it consists of.

PSYCHOGRAPHICS My magazine is targeted at a mainstream

audience because they very much do what they like, and have no reason to stand out because they’re not interested in other peoples’ perceptions of them. This links to going to festivals, because those that go to festivals could be considered to be mainstream because most people go to festivals, which also makes them fade into the crowd of people. They like a bit of gossip, which is what makes the magazine alluring due to the exclusive additions that other magazines don’t have, therefore encouraging them to want to buy my media product.

INDIVIDUALISTS As well as being aimed at psychographics, my

magazine is also aimed at individualists. This is because they are very much trendsetters, not followers. If they want to go to a festival, they will not choose the one that is considered to be the most popular, but instead would choose the one that they would like to go to because they want to, and haven’t been told to. They are different, and do stand out, but not because they try to, just because others aspire to be like them.

My media product is also aimed at those that aspire to succeed. This is because succeeders are resilient and strong willed, believing that they can do anything if they put their minds to it. This shows initiative in making decisions for themselves, and having a creative mindset different from others.

CLASS STATUS My media product isn’t aimed at those who wish to be

wealthy, despite the CHANEL logo on the reader profile image, but is more so aimed at those who want to prove others wrong and show them that they can do things if they really try.

In terms of socio-economic demographics, my media product is aimed at all because it doesn’t take being rich to be allowed to buy the product, but it does take initiative and must have the characteristic of being risk taking, which is why my initial audience is young adults because they are at the peak of their adulthood and are unquestionably enthusiastic and out there which makes the magazine more suited to them. But anyone can buy the magazine no matter what class they are, or how wealthy they are as long as they hold the characteristics that my media product expects. The magazine isn’t overly priced either, therefore anyone can buy it in terms of price if they wanted to.
