Tuesday May 7, 2019 4 DISTRICTS Excise sleuths destroy working still, 1,550 Kg of Lahan STATE TIMES NEWS KATHUA: Excise Department on Monday destroyed 1,550 Kgs of Lahan and one working still during different raids carried out to check the menace of illicit distillation and sale of liquor in Excise Range Kathua. On the directions of the Excise Commissioner M. Raju and supervision of Deputy Excise Commissioner (Executive), Jammu S. Amarjeet Singh and ETO Excise Range Kathua Rafie Naik, Excise team comprising of Excise Inspectors Razi Ahmad, Arun Kumar and SI Sanjeev Kumar along with Excise Guards Rajinder Singh, Mohd Sharief, Varun Sharma & Hans Raj raided the Chakdrabkhan, Mirpur Jaggu, Muthi Jagir, Chibbachak and Barnoti areas of Kathua district. In the process one working still and more than 1,550 Kgs of Lahan raw material of illicit liquor was recovered by the raiding team from state land & later destroyed on spot. Man arrested for illicit distillation STATE TIMES NEWS RAJOURI: Police on Monday arrested a man for manufac- turing desi liquor and also seized liquor from his possession. On a reliable information, a team of police headed by SHO Sunderbani Naveen Angral under the supervision of SDPO Nowshera Brijesh Sharma and Addl SP Nowshera GL Sharma raided on a house in Palwal village of Sunderbani police station. During the raid, a local identified as Vipan Paul son of Kunj Lal resident of Palwal who was manufacturing liquor saw cops from some distance and fled from the spot. The working still being used for preparation of liquor was seized on the spot along with 15 litres of liquor while 50 kilo- grams of Lahaan was destroyed on the spot. A case FIR No 38/2019 under sections 48(E) Excise Act has been registered in Sunderbani police station and investi- gation started while police team is conducting raids at mul- tiple places to nab the accused. Illegal cultivation of poppy crop destroyed STATE TIMES NEWS RAJOURI: Continuing its efforts to keep a check on the ped- dling of narcotics and other allied substances, Jammu and Kashmir police has destroyed an illegal cultivation of poppy straw from a field in Hayatpura village of Manjakote in Rajouri district. An information was received from realiable source that a person namely Ajaz Ahmed Khan son of Mohammad Sarwar resident of Suka Kass Mohalla of Hayatpura village has cul- tivated poppy plants (opium) illegally in his agriculture land in an area of about 600 square feet. On this information a case vide FIR 38/2019 under sec- tions 8/15 NDPS Act was registered in Manjakote police sta- tion and a team of police headed by SDPO Manjakote Nisar Khoja along with Tehsildar Manjakote Sagheer Chowdhary and SHO Manjakote Manzoor Kohli as well as concerned Patwari reached on the spot for investigation where the ille- gal crop of poppy plants was found cultivated on field. After completion of all the legal formalities, the crop was destroyed on the spot. Police team has also started search to nab the accused of the case. Biker dies, pillion rider injured in road mishap STATE TIMES NEWS SAMBA: Biker was killed while pillion rider got injured after hit by tanker at Mansar Morh area of Samba on Monday. According to a report, the mishap took place at Jammu Pathankot National Highway near Mansar Morh area of Samba on Monday evening at around 5:00 PM, when a tanker (JK02AB- 8265) on way to Jammu from Kathua, hit a motorcycle (JK21C- 1798) resulting motorcycle rider and pillion rider both getting critically injured and brought to District Hospital Samba with the help of police where doctors declared bike rider as brought dead. The deceased has been identified as Sanjay Kumar (18), son of Shamsher Lal, resident of Jatwal Sangwali while injured Vinay Manyal, (22), son of Shiv Nath, resident of Sangwali was referred to Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu for further treatment. The body of the deceased was shifted to mortuary room of District Hospital Samba for autopsy. Police has been taken cognizance the matter and started investigation. Drug peddler arrested with banned capsules STATE TIMES NEWS BARI BRAHMANA: Police on Monday arrested a drug peddler and recovered 71 intoxicant capsules from his pos- session. According to a report, police during patrolling in the area of Channi Kartholi Sarore Adda Gujjar Basti, intercepted a person moving under suspicious circumstances and dur- ing his frisking, recovered 71 intoxicating capsules from his possession. The accused identified as Anil Singh, son of Darshan Singh, resident of Bri-Kamila, Vijaypur was arrested and a case vide FIR No. 60/2019 under Sections 8/21/22 NDPS Act was registered against him at Police Station Bari Brahmana. Officer of YouthServices and Sports Department, hereat Govt High School Tanda Kangri,Tehsil Beri Pattan on Monday. TheHeadmaster of the School Ram LalSharma was the Chief Guest.
