Trait Theory

• An approach for analyzing the structure of personality by measuring, identifying, and classifying similarities and differences in personality characteristics or traits.

Five Factor Model

• Organizes personality traits and describes differences in personality using five categories: OCEAN

Openness

• Someone who is very open wants to experience and try new things. And someone who isn’t has narrow interests.

Conscientiousness

• Someone who is conscientious is responsible and dependable, where as someone who isn’t is very carless and impulsive.

Extraversion

• Someone who is very outgoing and decisive, or someone who is retiring and withdrawn.

Agreeableness

• A person who is considered agreeable is open to compromise and acceptance.

• Someone who isn’t, is considered stubborn and narrow-minded.

Neuroticism

• If you do have this trait you are stable and not a worrier.

• If you do not have the trait you are nervous and emotionally unstable.
