Circular SilencersCircular Medium Velocity CMCircular High Velocity CHPRICE Absorptive Circular Silencersare designed to provide a practical solution for controlling duct noise in circular ductwork systems. A silencer that is the same shape and size as the ductwork eliminates the need for costly transitions, which produce turbulent air flow and increase the system pressure drop. Price circular silencers have a sleek internal geometry that is provided by locating the acoustic media outside of the air stream. The design ensures maximum acoustical performance while minimizing system pressure drops at duct velocities as high as 8000 fpm. Our available standard sizes offer excellent flexibility to ductwork designs, and because we do not limit our cataloged silencer offering to certain sizes, we have the ability to build each silencer to suit the ductwork and, in turn, the application.
Features• Eliminate costly square to round
transitions.
• Smooth aerodynamic internal geometries that minimize pressure drop and turbulence.
• Highest quality leak-free construction.
• Capable of velocities as high as 8000 fpm.
• 2 in. slip connection on both ends.
CM SilencersPrice CM silencers are designed for medium velocity applications. This medium velocity configuration provides high levels of insertion loss across the full range of frequencies, and the sleek curved inlet and outlet of the center pod reduce turbulence and allow for static regain for improved pressure drop. This configuration is best suited for applications with velocities of 4000 fpm or less.
CH SilencersPrice CH silencers are designed for high velocity applications and have no center pod in the air stream to constrict the air flow. This minimizes the pressure drop that can occur at higher velocities, while still providing high levels of insertion loss across the full range of frequencies. Price CH Silencers are best suited for applications where low pressure drops are the priority or high air velocities cannot be avoided.

ConstructionPrice absorptive circular silencers consist of a metal casing, perforated metal liner, and acoustic fiberglass media. These silencers are available in various classifications to meet the specific requirements of each project.
CL1 – 22 gauge casing & 22 gauge perforated liner
CL2 – 18 gauge casing & 22 gauge perforated liner
CL3 – 16 gauge casing & 22 gauge perforated liner
For applications with very strict or unique requirements that cannot be met by the standard construction classifications, please contact your local Price sales rep.
SPLC – Special construction available upon request.
MaterialG – Galvanized (Default material)
A – Aluminum†
304 – 304 Stainless Steel†
316 – 316 Stainless Steel†
SC – Satin Coat (Paintable)† Sheet metal gauge may differ from standard values.
DimensionsPrice absorptive circular silencers are built to match the duct dimensions, therefore the diameter and length dimensions for the silencer must always be specified. Please consult the Standard Dimension Limits chart for available sizes.
Accessories & Custom OptionsTo meet project requirements, Price can provide additional features such as:
• Paint
• Fiberglass Cloth
• Flanges
• Transitions
• Mounting Feet

Performance Notes:1. Data tables are derived from values obtained in
accordance with ASTM E477-06a.2. “+” indicates performance data for forward flow (supply)
applications.3. “-” indicates performance data for reverse flow (return)
applications.
4. Dynamic Insertion Loss is limited to 55 dB due to flanking. Please contact your local Price sales rep if insertion loss values greater than 55 dB are required.
5. Generated noise data is based on a face area of 7.07 ft2.
6. The performance data above is based on a 36 in. diameter component.

Absorptive Circular Silencers CM, CH
GeneralFurnish and install Price Absorptive circular Silencers of the sizes, configuration, and performance as described on plans and/or air distribution schedules. Silencer inlet and outlet connections shall be equal to the duct sizes shown on the drawings. Duct transitions are not permitted unless shown on the drawings and approved by the engineer.
PerformanceSilencer performance characteristics including insertion loss, pressure drop, and generated noise shall have been attained through testing in accordance with the ASTM e477-06a test standard for acoustical duct silencers. laboratory performance verification may be requested in the manufacture’s test facility and a comparative test report made available to the engineer.
ConstructionSilencers shall consist of solid steel casing as noted in table below, perforated liners and absorptive acoustic fiberglass media.
Connection Diameter Minimum Casing GaugeMin Max
6 20 226 44 18 6 60 16
(Standard) Construction Class 1: 22ga galvanized casing / 22ga galvanized perforated liner(Optional) Construction Class 2: 18ga galvanized casing / 22ga galvanized perforated liner(Optional) Construction Class 3: 16ga galvanized casing / 22ga galvanized perforated liner
Acceptable methods of fastening shall be button lock, Pittsburgh lock, and welds. in situations where these methods are not feasible, rivets can be used. Screws or other mechanical fasteners will not be acceptable.
The silencer perforated liners shall be rigidly fastened to the casing of the silencer on both ends and attached to the outer casing with a minimum of two stiffeners.
Acoustic media shall be shot free inorganic glass fiber with long, resilient fibers, bonded with thermosetting resin. Glass fiber shall be packed with a minimum 10% compression to eliminate voids and settling; density shall be consistent with that used to generate catalogued test data.
Where internal velocities exceed 4000 fpm a fiberglass cloth shall be added to the
silencer between the internal perforated liner and the acoustic media to protect the media from erosion.
combustion ratings for acoustic media shall be equal to or less than the combustion ratings noted below when tested in accordance with ASTM e84, Ul723, and nFPA255:
Flame Spread classification: 25
Smoke Development rating: 50
SubmittalProvide manufacturers performance data for dynamic insertion loss, generated noise, and pressure drop which has been obtained in accordance with ASTM e477-06a. Data for each scheduled silencer shall be provided with the size, configuration, air volume, and airflow direction as appears on the drawing and/or schedule.
