Parable of the Pencil

The Pencil Maker took the pencil aside, just before putting him into the box.

“There are five things you need to know,” he told the pencil, “Before I sendyou out into the world. Always remember them and you will become the best pencil you can be.”

“One: You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allowyourself to be held in Someone’s hand.”

“Two: You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, but you’llneed it to become a better pencil.”

“Three: You will always be able to correct any mistakes you might make.”

“Four: The most important part of you will always be what’s inside.”

“And Five: On every surface you are used on, you must leave your mark.No matter what the condition, you must continue to write.”

The pencil understood and promised to remember, and went into the boxwith purpose in its heart.

Dear Friends,

This month try replacing the place of the pencil with you. Remember these five “points” and you will leave your mark on this world!

One: You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourselfto be held in God’s hand. Allow other human beings to access you forthe many God given gifts you possess.

Two: You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, by goingthrough various problems in life, but you need to experience those problemsto become a stronger person.

Three: You will always be able to correct any mistakes you might make. Mistakes are often our very best teacher if we are willing to learn from them.

Four: The most important part of you will always be what’s on the inside.

And Five: On every surface you walk through, you must leave your mark.No matter what the situation, you must continue to always do your best. Let youractions always speak louder than your words!

Until Next Month, Warmly, Carolyn

My dear Sisters and Brothers,

In this Extraordinary Holy Year of Mercy, a daily way to make this Year more extraordinary and holy is to perform the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy. These Works of Mercy are listed below along with the official Vatican logo for the Extraordinary Holy Year of Mercy that was designed by the Reverend Marko I. Rupnik. The logo portrays Jesus, the person of Mercy, who is carrying a “lost man” on His shoulders, their eyes united with each other, connecting all sinners to the tenderness of Christ’s merciful love. Jesus is carrying the man out of the darkness of sin into His wonderful, merciful light contrasted by the dark to light backdrop. “Merciful like the Father” is a quote from the Gospel of Luke 6:36 reminding us that as the Father bestows mercy and forgiveness, so must all followers of His Son do the same.

FCSLA Announces 2016-2017 Scholarship Awards

This issue of Fraternally Yours is one of the most if not the most anticipated issue of the year. It is my privilege as your Fraternal & Youth Director to present to you, on the next several pages, our many young members who are recipients of our 2016-2017 Scholarship Awards.

The FCSLA Scholarships are “one” of the most generous annual benefits our association offers to our membership. More than $248,250 was awarded to young members of the Association. We believe that education is vital in the development of our future generations. We are proud of each and every one our members who applied this year and thank them for participating in our scholarship program.
