Escape with the 3MTM ScottTM ELSATM Respirator

Emergency Escape! In emergency situations where breathable air quality may be or has been compromised, getting away from the contamination is critical. That means two things: (1) Do it quickly. (2) Do it safely. The ELSA Emergency Escape Breathing Device (EEBD) from 3M Scott gives you the means to do both easily and effectively.

Save Time. Buy Time.

• Escape quickly from atmospheres that are Immediately Dangerous to Life or Health (IDLH)

• Constant flow of air provides positive pressure inside the hood

• 360-degree visibility• Two ELSA respirator model choices:

• ELSA Emergency Escape Breathing Device, 5-Minute

• ELSA Emergency Escape Breathing Device, 10-Minute

3M Scott’s “grab and go” ELSA respirator is designed to be put on and activated quickly. The clear polyurethane hood fits securely over the head and provides 360-degree visibility. Since it fits over the entire head, the fit is not affected by safety glasses or facial hair, provided the hair does not interfere with the neck seal.

The elastomeric neck seal and positive pressure inside the hood help ensure that the wearer will be protected from airborne contaminants. Fit testing is not required. A sturdy nylon strap allows the respirator to be carried, or worn on the neck or over the shoulder.

In hazardous or IDLH environments, the ELSA respirator provides 5 or 10 minutes of constant flow emergency air. Based on orderly egress on a flat surface at 4 mph, a 5-minute ELSA respirator allows an individual to travel approximately 1,760 feet. A 10-minute respirator allows approximately 3,520 feet.

It’s a matter of space and time. When contamination occurs, you need to put space between you and danger. The ELSA Emergency Escape Breathing Device gives you the time to do that safely.

The protection you need to exit from hazardous environments

The unexpected release of noxious gases, vapors, fumes or other toxic airborne materials cannot be absolutely eliminated from every industrial setting. Nevertheless, every industrial setting can be easily equipped with an ELSA respirator. Placed in strategic locations, the ELSA respirator provides exceptional breathing protection for emergency escape from those areas where IDLH or other hazardous conditions may suddenly occur.

Easy to Find. Easy to Maintain.

The durable ELSA Emergency Escape Breathing Device is a self-contained respirator. The breathing air cylinder with reducer, along with hose and hood are stored in a single, easy to see and maintain, safety orange, PVC coated polyester bag that is chemical, UV and age resistant. The detachable hood makes cleaning or replacement easy, without the use of tools. The hood need only be replaced if it has been used for escape from a hazardous environment. The ELSA respirator features a rechargeable, compressed air cylinder with a pressure gauge for easy verification of cylinder pressure.

Instructions for use are printed on the cylinder bag in easy-to-follow pictograms so that anyone, regardless of language fluency, can use ELSA respirator correctly. However, it is required that personnel become familiar with the ELSA device as a matter of general job training.
