Bronze Coast Gallery has been in operation for nearly thirty years and represents over 40 artists from the northwest and beyond. Providing a wide variety of sculpture from classic limited edition bronze to unique and innovative contemporary artwork, as well as exquisite paintings, we consider it a privilege to be involved with our extraordinary artists and make it a priority to intricately understand their work in order to share the experience with others. We are delighted, once again, to participate in Cannon Beach’s annual Stormy Weather Arts Festival. This year we are honored to be hosting three of our remarkably talented artists.

Seth VandableFrom Cedar Hill, Texas, Seth Vandable has been with Bronze Coast

Gallery for 14 years. His profound human figures stir emotion in all who see them – it’s is not uncommon for Seth’s work to move visitors of the gallery to tears. He strives to capture the quiet strength and dignity of mankind in his compositions. About his work, Seth says, “I am always inspired and amazed by the people around me, becoming increasingly convinced that every individual I meet is truly a marvel in their own environment. My sincere wish is that through my work, people will recognize their own heroic nature. May they find hope through a sense of connection to all souls conquering life’s changes…reaching for the same dreams…succeeding with integrity and beauty.”

Hans SchieboldJoining us from nearby Tigard, Oregon, Hans Schiebold is

originally from Germany. He has been represented by Bronze Coast Gallery for more than two decades. Hans has perfected his work over nearly seventy years as an artist. His richly textured mixed-media paintings have been collected all over the country. Generally quiet about his techniques, he summed up his unique approach to painting by explaining ‘All you need to do is find a way to make the color stick to the canvas.’ Hans’ work has ranged from abstract to more representational over the years, finding balance in his ‘Implied Landscapes’ that may hint at a horizon, sea, land, sky, or trees, while still leaving much to the imagination.

Linda ProkopOriginally from Indiana, Linda Prokop now calls Loveland, Colorado

home. She has been part of the Bronze Coast family for 17 years. Interested in art from a very young age, it was her short stint as a secretary for another sculptor that motivated her to try her hand at sculpting. Clearly finding her calling, Linda captures the preciousness of everyday life in her family oriented sculptures. About her work Linda says, “The source of my imagery is rooted in my emotional response to the beauty of the world and a fascination with common, everyday occurrences.” After a career spanning decades, Linda feels she is finally finding her voice – namely depicting the love of family.

Stormy Weather Arts FestivalFeatured artist Valerie Savarie is traveling from Colorado to demonstrate her altered

book sculpture techniques in the gallery for the festival weekend. Savarie uses vintage books as the centerpiece of her creations, reinventing them into unique works of art through cutting, carving, stitching and character illustrations that are part of her larger visual storytelling.

For this occasion Valerie will be showing gallery visitors how she constructs her mini “flyer” pieces into animals and creatures like bats, owls, gargoyles and fairies. Valerie’s multi-dimensional book collages form an inseparable bond between words and visual arts. She will be showing a new collection of altered book art during our new exhibition.

New Exhibition“Now & Then: 50 Years in Cannon Beach” November 5th - January 3rd

Our new exhibition is the final chapter celebrating the 50th Anniversary of White Bird Gallery. The show brings together a broad collection of artwork by past and present artists that reflects the gallery evolution through both a contemporary and historical perspective.

The New Views grouping of artwork includes contemporary pieces by our newest gallery artists highlighting emerging mixed media styles that employ innovation in pro-cess oriented artworks. The Works From The Archives portion of the show includes a sampling of original painting and ceramic sculpture that exemplifies the history of gallery artists. Presented side by side these two collections show the breadth of individualistic styles that has continued to define the gallery aesthetic for 50 years.

Icefire Glassworks has been steadily expanding its offerings by adding in the work of new art-ists. For this year’s Stormy Weather Arts Festival, we are featuring Jim Kingwell’s “Bad Hair Day” pieces, so appropriate to the season! Jim began his career in 1971 and recently celebrated 50 years of working in glass. Suzanne Kindland will show new work in her “Emerald Forest” series, pieces that reflect the verdant beauty of the North Oregon Coast and the wooded places she loves. Mark Gordon brings warmth to the table with his fiery “Gold Watercolor” vases. Mark be-gan his career in 2003, and he continues to amaze as he explores new territory. Fused/cast glass artist Kathleen Sheard has been framing some of her artist studies, using reclaimed/recycled wood, in keeping with her environmental stewardship. And Jeff and Heather Thompson sends their hot-sculpted marine life, including octopi, crabs, and sea turtles!

STORMY WEATHER ARTS FESTIVAL SCHEDULE

Friday, November 510am - 6pm The gallery opens at 10am with a dynamic exhibition of photo encaustic, mixed media, contemporary jewelry and oil paintings. 4pm - 6pm Meet the Artists and review the depth and variety of their festival work.

Saturday, November 610am - 6pm Gallery doors are open. The featured artists will be in the gallery to talk about their work and conduct demonstrations from 11am - 3pm. They will be accompanied on live guitar by Jason Okamoto. A self-taught musician and composer based in Portland, Jason combines elements of bossa nova, flamenco, and French gypsy jazz in his deeply felt performances.

Sunday, November 710am - 5pm Festival events continue. Mingle with the featured artists from 11am - 1pm while enjoying guitar and vocals from local favorite Bucky Pottschmidt. A talented song writer, Bucky presents original as well as established favorites.

Doug Hansen’s mixed media artwork reimagines the concept of windows on the natural world. His wall hung oil paintings take on a sculptural form and incorporate natural elements, inviting us to view nature in a new and thoughtful way.

Kathy Hastings’ photo encaustic panels present the meeting points of the natural and manufactured world with visual poetry. Through abstracting the patterns of boat hulls on the waterline, and the ephemeral movement of birds, the artist reveals the beauty of stillness.

Deb Steele’s contemporary jewelry is wearable sculpture. Influenced by both nature and culture, Each fine silver piece is sculpted from precious metal clay and augmented with 24K gold, semi-precious stones, and glass.

Joanne Shellan’s talent as a painter is complimented by her natural gift as a storyteller. Her paintings capture human stories and perspectives with rich color palettes and vibrant brushwork. Each moment captured is both universal and familiar.

Sesame and Lilies183 N. Hemock Street | Cannon Beachwww.sesameandlilies.com

The Sesame and Lilies Upstairs Art Gallery, located on the secondfloor of the Cannon Beach Mall, features paintings by Diane Speakmanand her daughter, Rachel Speakman. Both artists work in oil on canvasand hardboard. Diane specializes in landscapes, still-lives, andanimal portraits. While their work often overlaps, Rachel specializesin animal forms, birds being her main focus. The use of a moderatepalette to render the soft hues of the northwest coast gives Diane’swork an impressionistic feel, which mixes seamlessly with the curatedspaces of Sesame and Lilies. Her interest in the works of the oldmasters, impressionism, and plein-air painting drive her stylisticchoices. Her new works include seascapes of the Oregon and Mainecoasts, still-lives, and animal portraits. Rachel’s work, on the otherhand, reflects the influence of a younger generation of artists. Sheemploys her own brand of stylized realism in her animal paintings (andsculpture) that take an edgier approach in both form and color. She isa graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. You can viewmore of her work online at rachelspeakman.com and her card and printline at sesameandlilies.com. More of Diane’s work is available to viewonline at sesameandlilies.com. Come explore 10,000 square feet of home furnishings, antiques and artupstairs in the Cannon Beach Mall. 183 N.
