*LITANY Joy Lambert One: Let all who seek Christ come expectantly! All: We have come, following God’s Son, whose goodness shines upon the earth. One: Be unafraid to draw near, for our Christ is ever just and always forgiving. All: Like witnesses to Christ’s greatness in every age, we stand in awe before him. One: Today, by his presence, he will illumine our lives. Let us pray.

*UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION

We thank you, God, for your beloved Son, in whom you found such pleasure, and to whom you have bid us listen. Forgive our inattention. Help us to turn consistently to him, to hear his voice and to witness the reflection of all that is most holy. Uncloud our vision and let us see him shine with your grace. Keep us unafraid to focus our lives intently upon him, that they may become glowing reflections of his glory. Amen.

Antiphon: Congregation may join the cantor in singing the antiphon.

Psalm 99:1-3, 6-9 ANDREW R. GALUSKA

Cantor and Congregation

One: 1 The LORD is king; let the peoples tremble! He sits enthroned upon the cherubim; let the earth quake! 2 The LORD is great in Zion; he is exalted over all the peoples. 3 Let them praise your great and awesome name. Holy is he!

Cantor and Congregation

One: 6 Moses and Aaron were among his priests; Samuel also was among those who called on his name. They cried to the LORD, and he answered them. 7 He spoke to them in the pillar of cloud; they kept his decrees, and the statutes that he gave them.

Cantor and Congregation

One: 8 O LORD our God, you answered them; you were a forgiving God to them, but an avenger of their wrongdoings. 9 Extol the LORD our God, and worship at his holy mountain; for the LORD our God is holy.

Cantor and Congregation

RESPONSE

One: May God who commanded light to shine out of darkness enlighten our way today. All: Amen.

READING FROM THE HEBREW SCRIPTURES Dr. Casey G. Baggott

One: God’s message finds utterance in our midst. All: We wait and listen for God’s word to us today.

Exodus 24:13-18

13So Moses set out with his assistant Joshua, and Moses went up into the mountain of God. 14To the elders he had said, ‘Wait here for us, until we come to you again; for Aaron and Hur are with you; whoever has a dispute may go to them.’ 15 Then Moses went up on the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain. 16The glory of the LORD settled on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it for six days; on the seventh day he called to Moses out of the cloud. 17Now the appearance of the glory of the LORD was like a devouring fire on the top of the mountain in the sight of the people of Israel. 18Moses entered the cloud, and went up on the mountain. Moses was on the mountain for forty days and forty nights.

RESPONSE

One: God’s glory shines among the people. All: May we attend faithfully to the wonder of God in our midst.

*HYMN OF DEVOTION “I’m Pressing On The Upward Way” HIGHER GROUND CALL TO THE GOSPEL Rev. David W. Johnson

One: Silence in us, O God, any voice but your own. All: May your Word be proclaimed and received here today.

Matthew 17:1-9

1 Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and his brother John and led them up a high mountain, by themselves. 2 And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became dazzling white. 3 Suddenly there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him. 4 Then Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here; if you wish, I will make three dwellings here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah." 5 While he was still speaking, suddenly a bright cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud a voice said, "This is my Son, the Beloved; with him I am well pleased; listen to him!" 6 When the disciples heard this, they fell to the ground and were overcome by fear. 7 But Jesus came and touched them, saying, "Get up and do not be afraid." 8 And when they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus himself alone.

9 As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus ordered them, "Tell no one about the vision until after the Son of Man has been raised from the dead."

RESPONSE One: Hear what the Spirit is saying to the church. All: Thanks be to God!

THE GREAT THANKSGIVING

UNISON CALL TO OFFERING Joy Lambert Great Provider God, you have given us glimpses of your love, shining through your Son. The offering we bring here today is given with gladness that this vision of your great goodness has come to us. Amen.

OFFERTORY “The Lord Is My Light” Rachel Carter, soprano Frances Allitsen

The Lord is my light and my salvation, Whom, then, shall I fear? Whom, then, shall I fear?

The Lord is the strength of my life; The Lord is the strength of my life, Of whom, then, shall I be afraid?

Though an host of men were laid against me, Yet shall not my heart be afraid; And though there rose up war against me, Yet will I put my trust in Him.

For, in the time of trouble. He shall hide me in His tabernacle. Yea, in the secret places of His dwelling shall He hide me.

And set me up upon a rock of stone. The Lord is my light and my salvation, Whom, then, shall I fear Whom, then, shall I fear?

The Lord is the strength of my life, The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom, then shall I be afraid? Of whom, then, shall I be afraid?

Standing upon this peak of glory Among the temples of hope

Seeing the saving grace “Pasa por Aqui”

White light Of radiant dawn.

Casting brilliance upward and downward,

Leading in the footprints of His steps, Knowing glory will be revealed From this mountain of vision.

Spoken to the beloved “Amor Eterno”

SACRAMENT OF HOLY COMMUNION

INVITATION TO THE TABLE Clergy of the Church

One: God be with you. All: And also with you. One: Lift up your hearts. All: We lift them up to God. One: Let us thank God. All: It is good to give God thanks and praise. One: Let us pray. Dear and loving God, with grateful hearts we prepare to receive your bread and your

cup, your gifts to us, taken in remembrance of Jesus Christ. As the bread we will share was once grain scattered in the fields, bind us together through this meal as the Body of Christ, sharing our faith, hope, and love. As the cup we will share was once grapes on a vine, may we drink of the cup and find we become as branches grafted to the vine of new life we know in Christ. And, when we have known communion with one another and with you, may we find those things you love are most lovely to us, and may we embody your goodness wherever we go, using the freedom we are granted in Christ to further his work in the world. Let your Holy Spirit grace our table, so that we may know Christ in the breaking of the bread and the sharing of the cup. Amen.

CALLING ALL GREETERS: A Big Thank You to the Coker family, Judy and John Gordon, and Dorie Moore for welcoming everyone on Sunday!

SEARCH COMMITTEE UPDATE: The Senior Minister search committee has been working to lay the foundation for our search. We have prepared two comprehensive profiles of Community Church – one for the search firm, Vanderbloemen, and one for the UCC Florida Conference. Both of these will be utilized in their respective searches to inform interested candidates for the position. We have also compiled the results of the congregational survey, which we will share with the congregation. Look for that soon on the www.ccovb.org website. Thank you to all those who participated – we are so glad to have your input. Finally, the website now includes a list of Frequently Asked Questions about the search process. We will update that as necessary and make every effort to keep everyone informed. Thank you for your prayers and support of the search – we continue the journey to find the new Senior Minister whom God has already prepared for us.

March 20th Saving Jesus: The Teachings of Jesus

March 27th Saving Jesus: Jesus’ Program: The Kingdom of God One thing most New Testament scholars agree on - and they don’t agree on much - is that Jesus’ main aim was the Kingdom of God. Jesus expressed it in his teachings and with his life. He proclaimed it and enacted it. In Matthew, Mark and Luke it’s all Jesus ever talks about, mostly in parables and aphorisms. But as Walter Brueggemann points out, “He never could prescribe the Kingdom.” He could only offer hints of it. What is this kingdom to which Jesus pointed, and how much longer before it is realized? Join us in this session to help figure that out.

GLOBAL PRAYER PARTNER: GHANA. Debbie Colvin serves with the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EP), Ghana. Debbie and Larry Colvin have been living in Peki, Ghana for four months. The community of Peki, Ghana is truly a warm, welcoming, accepting Christian community. We see God at work here in Ghana. Prayer: Lord Jesus, we thank you for your unconditional love, your compassion, your guidance that we see in our brothers and sisters in Peki, Ghana. We experience your unconditional LOVE as they share their lives, food, clothing, and knowledge with strangers.
