As we continue our Capital Campaign, the above quote from Pope St. John XXIII is very instructive. We can often focus on our shortcomings, the things that don’t go our own way or the problems around us and ignore the possibilities of a greater

solution which only requires work in the trust of faith and hope.

Last week we began to share with you the potential of our parish communi-ty at St. Lucy. We gave an outline of why we are embarking on the Capital Campaign “Renewed in the Light” and the scope of the campaign. We shared with you the reasons for the projects chosen and the costs in-volved. Finally we asked you to pray for the success and through conver-sations with your family to begin to think about how you will be able to help our parish community to meet the needs of our fellow parishioners and the parish buildings that serve our needs. Esta semana, si aún no lo ha hecho, recibirá un paquete por correo sobre la Campaña de Capital y en el so-bre habrá una tarjeta de compromiso. Le pedimos que considere en oración lo que puede compartir moneta-riamente de su tesoro durante los próximos tres años para permitirnos hacer el trabajo necesario en nuestro edificio para continuar sirviendo a la gente de la parroquia de Santa Lucía.

This week, if you have not already, you will receive a packet in the mail about the Capital Campaign and in it is enclosed a pledge card. We ask you to prayerfully consider what you are able to monetarily share of your treasure over the next three years to allow us to do the necessary work on our building to continue to serve the people of St. Lucy parish.

For many of us, this parish is our home away from home. I have been here only a few short years but I see the love and commitment each parish family has to our Catholic faith. Our continued ministry in Campbell and surrounding areas relies on your generosity.

ALTAR DEL DIA DE LOS MUERTOS DAY OF THE DEAD ALTAR

The children in the catechesis made paper flowers, skulls, and other decorations for the “Altar del Día de los Muertos” (Day of the Dead Altar) which is in display inside our Church.

The Altar del Día De Los Muertos is part of the Mexican tradition to celebrate the All Saints Day and the All Souls Day. Creative and elaborated altars are built in the homes throughout Mexico and by Mexicans around the world. The tradition focuses on celebrating and remembering friends and family who have passed away. The altar is a mixture of symbolism that comes from both native traditions and Catholic beliefs brought to Mexico by the Spanish conquistadors. The altar is made with sugar skulls, marigolds,

photos of the deceased and samples of their favorite food or drinks.

Please stop by the Altar de los Muertos and pray for the deceased loved family members in our community. Los niños de la catequesis hicieron flores de papel, calaveras y otros adornos para el "Altar del Día de los Muertos" que está colocado dentro de nuestra Iglesia.

El Altar del Día de los Muertos es parte de la tradición mexicana para celebrar el Día de Todos los Santos y el Día de los Muertos. Creativos y elaborados altares son construidos en los hogares a través de México y de los mexicanos en todo el mundo. La tradición se centra en celebrar y recordar a amigos y familiares que han fallecido. El altar es una mezcla de simbolismo que viene de las tradiciones nativas y creencias católicas traídas a México por los conquistadores españoles. El altar está hecho con calaveras de azúcar, flores, fotos de los fallecidos y muestras de su alimentos favoritos o bebidas.

Por favor pare por el Altar del Día de los Muertos y reze por los miembros de las familias en nuestra comunidad que han fallecido.

The Thanksgiving Day Mass will be on November 23, 2017 at 9AM. You may bring food to be blessed during the mass. A Thanksgiving Prayer will be in-serted in the November 18-19, 2017 bulletin for families to use during their Thanksgiving meal.

Martha's Kitchen Benefit Concert

Martha's Kitchen is having a Benefit Concert hosted by Hunger at Home on 11/10/17 at the City National Civic in downtown San Jose. The Joe Sharino Band will be performing. This is part of their Farewell Tour because Joe Sharino is retiring after 45 years. The event will also feature 8 food stations and 15 bars throughout the theatre hall.
