FROMTHE PRINCIPAL’S DESK EYE ON SEAFORD SCHOOL EMAIL: [email protected] WEBSITE: www.seafordps.vic.edu.au Congratulaons to all concerned for a great outcome at our Bunnings Sausage Sizzle last Sunday. We made a net profit of $1799.26 which will be used to fund addional resources to support our teaching and learning program across the school. A big thank you to those parents and staff who were able to spend some me at the event to ensure that we were adequately staffed throughout the day. A special thank you to Annie Laurenson who organises and co-ordinates everything from sausage and bread purchase to roster to liaising with Bunnings and a thousand other things that need to happen to ensure a successful day. Last Thursday and Friday I spent me with our year 5 and 6 students on their camp at Coonawarra near Bairnsdale in East Gippsland. On arrival I found a group of children canoeing on the lake, another group on the giant swing (18 metres high!) and our third group being challenged by the rock climbing wall. These were just a few of the acvies that the children were able to parcipate in throughout the week, with others being Hut Building, High Ropes, Archery, Big Games and Group Iniaves. At assembly over the next two weeks our Grade of the Week features 5/6L and 5/6S who will present their highlights, so if you would like to find out more about this week, come along at about 2.50 on Friday to the mul-purpose room. The camp that the year 5 and 6 students do is a five day camp and is the culminaon of the school’s outdoor educaon program. This program begins in prep and year 1 who have an acvies evening and sausage sizzle which is coming up in a few week’s me. The year 2’s are also having their sleep over soon which is followed by a day at Myuna Farm. The year 3 and 4 students aend a 3 day camp each year with noces having gone home recently for next year’s camp at Golden Valley Lodge. It is at around this me of year that planning begins for the following year. To assist with this it is helpful for us to know the ancipated number of students that will be aending the school. Other than year 6 students, if you know that your child will not be aending Seaford next year and you have not as yet informed us of this, please do so at your earliest convenience. Likewise if you know of families who will have children aending Seaford for the first me next year and who have not as yet enrolled, could you ask them to do so as soon as possible. On Monday of this week we held our latest site meeng for our new building. The work is progressing with the focus now very much on the internal fit out. The plaster walls have been completed, the electrical and plumbing rough in has been done and all windows and doors have been installed. Insulaon has been delivered for the ceiling and then it will just be a maer of installing the ceiling les, the carpet and vinyl and painng, followed by the site clean. At this point in me we have been advised that expected compleon date will be November 14 th . Our fingers are sll crossed that this will be the end date which will ensure our year 6 students will sll have a few weeks in the new building before the end of the year. As I hope you all know 2014 is our Centenary Year. Our planning sub commiee have met on a number of occasions with the most recent meeng being to discuss the best way to communicate the event to students, parents and staff both past and future. It has been decided that a dedicated Facebook page with a link from our web site is the best way to go and the Communicaon Commiee has developed a Facebook Protocol for presentaon to school council at the November Meeng. Once approved things will start happening on the Facebook page so that you can keep up to date. For those that do not have a Facebook page, we will connue to update you both on the website and through newsleers.
