Congratula#ons to all concerned for a great outcome at our Bunnings Sausage Sizzle last Sunday. We
made a net profit of $1799.26 which will be used to fund addi#onal resources to support our
teaching and learning program across the school. A big thank you to those parents and staff who
were able to spend some #me at the event to ensure that we were adequately staffed throughout
the day. A special thank you to Annie Laurenson who organises and co-ordinates everything from
sausage and bread purchase to roster to liaising with Bunnings and a thousand other things that
need to happen to ensure a successful day.
Last Thursday and Friday I spent #me with our year 5 and 6 students on their camp at Coonawarra
near Bairnsdale in East Gippsland. On arrival I found a group of children canoeing on the lake,
another group on the giant swing (18 metres high!) and our third group being challenged by the rock
climbing wall. These were just a few of the ac#vi#es that the children were able to par#cipate in
throughout the week, with others being Hut Building, High Ropes, Archery, Big Games and Group
Ini#a#ves. At assembly over the next two weeks our Grade of the Week features 5/6L and 5/6S who
will present their highlights, so if you would like to find out more about this week, come along at
about 2.50 on Friday to the mul#-purpose room.
The camp that the year 5 and 6 students do is a five day camp and is the culmina#on of the school’s
outdoor educa#on program. This program begins in prep and year 1 who have an ac#vi#es evening
and sausage sizzle which is coming up in a few week’s #me. The year 2’s are also having their sleep
over soon which is followed by a day at Myuna Farm. The year 3 and 4 students aCend a 3 day camp
each year with no#ces having gone home recently for next year’s camp at Golden Valley Lodge.
It is at around this #me of year that planning begins for the following year. To assist with this it is
helpful for us to know the an#cipated number of students that will be aCending the school. Other
than year 6 students, if you know that your child will not be aCending Seaford next year and you
have not as yet informed us of this, please do so at your earliest convenience. Likewise if you know
of families who will have children aCending Seaford for the first #me next year and who have not as
yet enrolled, could you ask them to do so as soon as possible.
On Monday of this week we held our latest site mee#ng for our new building. The work is
progressing with the focus now very much on the internal fit out. The plaster walls have been
completed, the electrical and plumbing rough in has been done and all windows and doors have
been installed. Insula#on has been delivered for the ceiling and then it will just be a maCer of
installing the ceiling #les, the carpet and vinyl and pain#ng, followed by the site clean. At this point
in #me we have been advised that expected comple#on date will be November 14th
. Our fingers are
s#ll crossed that this will be the end date which will ensure our year 6 students will s#ll have a few
weeks in the new building before the end of the year.
As I hope you all know 2014 is our Centenary Year. Our planning sub commiCee have met on a
number of occasions with the most recent mee#ng being to discuss the best way to communicate
the event to students, parents and staff both past and future. It has been decided that a dedicated
Facebook page with a link from our web site is the best way to go and the Communica#on
CommiCee has developed a Facebook Protocol for presenta#on to school council at the November
Mee#ng. Once approved things will start happening on the Facebook page so that you can keep up
to date. For those that do not have a Facebook page, we will con#nue to update you both on the
website and through newsleCers.
Regards
Michael
