UNIMED main objective

UNIMED aims at promoting, in a multidisciplinary perspective,

interuniversity research and education…

…in order to contribute to the integration process between the

two Mediterranean shores.

UNIMED carries out the following activities in favour of its members

• Promotion of the international dimension of universities;

• Planning and fund raising activity;

• Promotion of mobility in the Euro-Mediterranean region, for students, researchers and academic staff;

• Organization of meetings, discussions, seminars and round tables both at a national and international level;

• Training for academic and administrative staff of Universities, particularly for the personnel of International Relations Offices.

Objectives of the Forum I1) To identify Mediterranean Partner Countries’ research and development priorities and common interests in the field of sustainable urban mobility, in particular: urban air quality and mobility, use of electric vehicles, public transport services, urban logistics and urban infrastructure

2) To formulate recommendations to the EC in R&D policy on cooperation with Mediterranean Partner Countries

3) To identify new possibilities if synergies between EU industries and the MPCs.

Objectives of the Forum II

- the state of art of MPCs on sustainable urban mobility;

- the legal framework (if there is one) of MPCs on this regard;

- needs and problems on public transports and urban mobility;

- solutions and recommendations to further improve the current state;

- results on the recommended topics for future cooperation supported by the EC within the framework of H2020.

Some remarksAccording to UNIMED Survey to MPCs, it is possible to identify some general concerns with regard, obviously withdifferent degrees, to all the national scenarios interested by the questionnaire.

Some remarksAccording to UNIMED survey to MPCs, the public sector should be involved in the sustainable urban mobility developing new synergies among those actors: Ministry of Interior, Local universities, Order of Engineers, Municipalities, Governorates Authorities, Ministry of Planning, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Telecommunications, Energy Authority, World Bank.

Suggested recommendations

Political Recommendations: Political support is required to encourage the use ofelectric vehicles, transparency and fairness, to provide proper funds, governmentsubsidy to the public transportation sector, Revise “old” policies, regulations, and laws.

Organizational Recommendations: Easier access to information, Necessity of wellmanaged leadership for transportation companies, Improve management

Economic Recommendations: Provide proper funds, Charge private transportation inproportion to their cost to public and use this to finance public transportation, reducetraffic and congestion affecting local and national GDP, Invest wisely in infrastructure,Government subsidy to the public transportation sector.

Social Recommendations: Enhancing awareness on sustainable transport, Participationof civil society in the drafting and elaborations of urban planning documents, Thepromotion women’s participation in decision-making bodies.
