Nighttown Student Discount PolicyStudents up to age 26 are 1/2 off the regular price. Student priced tickets are only available the night of theshow, are available only at the door, and are subject toavailability. Students must have a photo ID from agenerally-recognized high school, college or university. Full-paying ticket holders get priority on admission andseating. Certain select shows have no discount based onarrangements with the artist. On evenings when thereare two shows (i.e. shows at 7 & 9PM), the discount isonly good for the second show. Students under the age of18 must be accompanied by an adult paying full price inorder to be eligible for the discount.

Born in Newcastle, Australia, Nicki Parrot started her musical training at age fourwith the piano, followed by the flute, soon after. Nicki switched to double bass atthe age of 15.

After graduating high school she moved to Sydney to study jazz at the New SouthWales Conservatorium of Music. She continued her studies with various bassistsincluding visiting artists Ray Brown and John Clayton.

Nicki came to New York in May 1994.

In June 2000, Nicki began performing on Monday nights at the Iridium Jazz Clubwith the legendary guitarist and inventor, Les Paul. As part of the Les Paul Trio,Nicki worked side-by-side with guitar greats from Paul McCartney, Slash, SteveMiller to fellow Aussie, Tommy Emmanuel.

Since then she has performed with such notable musicians as Michel Legrand, JoeWilder, Randy Brecker, Clark Terry, Jose Feliciano, Bucky Pizzarelli, John Pizzarelli,Dick Hyman, Patti Labelle & the New York Pops Orchestra, Harry Allen, WarrenVache, Marlena Shaw, David Krakauer, Ken Peplowski, Ann Hampton Callaway, BillMays, Scott Hamilton, Lillian Boutte, Larry Carlton and Houston Person, to name afew.

Nicki has performed at most major festivals around the globe including the MaryLou Williams Jazz Festival, Newport Jazz Festival, Jazz in July at the 92nd Street Y,Litchfield Jazz Festival, Detroit Jazz Festival, the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival andthe Newport Beach Jazz Party, Jazz Ascona and Bern Jazz Festival in Switzerland andmany others.

Vinny Raniolo has already performed alongside Tommy Emmanuel, TonyTrishka, Bucky Pizzarelli and David Grisman. Vignola and Raniolo have beentouring together as a guitar duo for nearly four years, and have played hundredsof shows together.

John di Martino, Composer, Arranger, Pianist, has recorded many CD's for VenusRecords with his "Romantic Jazz Trio". Noted for his versatility, John has performedand recorded with such notablesas Kenny Burrell, James Moody, Joe Lovano, David "Fat Head" Newman, FreddyCole, Pat Martino, Paquito D'Rivera and Houston Person.

A longtime house drummer at Nighttown, Roy King is a valuable presence on theCleveland jazz and pop scene as both a leader and a sideman. Roy has backed numerousartists at Nighttown including Mose Allison, Nellie McKay. His trio has featured a who'swho of pianists in Cleveland including Joe Hunter, Leo Coach, Dan Maier, Ed Ridley Jr., andmany more. Roy can be heard on his latest CD "Trios" released in 2009.

Soprano Saxophonist, Star of Contemporary Jazz, and his groupback in Cleveland to play 2 Big Shows at Nighttown!Meadows was born in West Virginia and grew up in Stamford, Connecticut. Hebegan playing the clarinet and studying classical music at the age of nine. Hestarted playing tenor sax in high school, and then migrated to soprano sax.

His passion for various types of music led him down an eclectic musical path. Hewas intrigued by the styles of jazz musicians, like Stanley Turrentine, Sidney Bichet,Johnny Hodges, John Coltrane, Sonny Stitt, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Dexter Gordon,Cannonball Adderley, Coleman Hawkins, Sonny Fortune, Joe Henderson, GroverWashington and many others. After studying jazz at Rippowam High School inStamford, CT with Anthony Truglia, Meadows attended Berklee College of Music.There he majored in arranging and composition. He later went to the SUNYPurchase School for the Arts. During his college years he played in a number ofbands including disco, R&B and various jazz ensmbles. I got a lot of sideman jobs incollege, and I have always said I got my real graduate degree playing clubs, saysMeadows, who perfected his craft studying with Sonny Fortune, Joe Henderson,Dave Liebman and Eddie Daniels.

“Not long after I finished school, (drummer) Norman Connors recorded one of mysongs, “Invitation” and then asked me to join his band. I later produced his Passionalbum with my colleague Jacques Burvick (Aquarium Dream) . Things just fell intoplace. Meadows first hit the airwaves in 1991 with “For Lovers Only”, but his careerreally began one day in the late ‘80s at New York’s Grand Central Station. He hadbeen a sideman with Connors for three years, with only vague notions ofeventually going solo. One day, while waiting for a train, he pulled out his horn andbegan playing under the huge dome. His sweet sound caught the attention offellow traveler, producer and TV composer Jay Chattaway, who happened to bepassing by on his way to the train. Chattaway was so impressed with Meadows’sound that he hooked Meadows up with legendary keyboardist Bob James.Meadows and James collaborated on a recording which unfortunately wentunreleased.

The experience put him on the road to his eventual success. Meadows hooked upwith numerous artists and musicians and became a well known sideman in his ownright, recording or performing over the years with Brook Benton, Eartha Kitt, PhyllisHyman, Jean Carne, The Temptations, Michael Bolton, Angela Bofill, Will Downing ,Bob Baldwin, Chuck Loeb, John Lee, among many others.

In 1990 Meadows submitted a solo project to Steve Backer at Novus/RCA and wassigned to a recording contract, thus marking the beginning of his solo career.Meadows’ first RCA release “For Lover’s Only” was a huge success and wasfollowed by his ground breaking “Keep it Right There” album. He became a stapleof the contemporary jazz format with his subsequent recordings, which includeBody Rhythm (1994) and Forbidden Fruit (1996), Passion (1997), Another Side OfMidnight (1999), Next To You (2000), In Deep (2002), Players Club (2004), DressedTo Chill (2006), Secrets (2009) Whisper (2013) and Soul Traveler his currentrelease on the New York based Shanachie Label.

North Coast based Gypsy Jazz Group lights up the stage at Nighttown!

Hot Djang! is an acoustic jazz quintet featuring violin, clarinet, acoustic guitarsand upright bass. Their inspiration comes from the style of jazz made popular inParis during the 1930’s known as “Gypsy Jazz”. In addition, they play jazz andswing standards from the American Songbook.

Reed Simon (violin) has worked with many of Cleveland's top jazz musicians andnational artists including guitarist Tony Mattolla, vibraphonist Gary Burton and as aspecial guest on a Duke Ellington program at Severance Hall.

Eric Seddon (clarinet) has performed with Grammy winners Doc Severinsen, TheMoody Blues, the Emerson String Quartet, Steve Allen, and Mark O’Connor. Hissolos engage the history of jazz clarinet from New Orleans roots to subtle swing tomodern complexity.

Kevin Richards (guitar) is highly regarded in the local roots music scene and hasshared stages with MacMartin, John Hammond, Jorma Kaukonen, Howard Armstrong, and local blueslegend Robert Lockwood Jr

Brad Smedley (guitar) is the heartbeat of the band. He has studied under severalof the best jazz guitaristsof this genre including Frank Vignola, Gonzolo Begara, and Robin Nolan.

Linda is a performer, composer, and formally adjunct music instructor at KenyonCollege and Ohio Wesleyan University. Her playing experience includes jazz, blues,rock, and classical music genres.She holds a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance from Capital University and aMaster of Arts in Percussion Pedagogy from The Ohio State University.

Linda’s second release on Chicken Coup Records, “For Hep Cats” was releasednationally on January 8, 2008 and achieved a chart position of No. 45 on thejazzweek.com Top 100.

In addition to her B3 quartet, she is also the leader of the “QED” jazz piano trio thatworks frequently in the central Ohio area.

Premier Latin Jazz Saxophonist Mitch Frohman from the Spanish HarlemOrchestra, Tito Puente, & The Bronx Horns Leads All Star NYC/ClevelandSextet!

Bronx native Mitch Frohman is one of the top saxophonist/flutists in the musicscene. After graduating from Columbus H.S.(Bronx,N.Y. class of 1971), he went onto get his Bachelor of Music Education degree from The University of Miami. Hisversatility in different styles of music has led him to many opportunities of playingwith the greatest musicians in the world.

For 25 years he was the sax and flute soloist with The Tito Puente Orchestra &Latin-Jazz Ensemble, and was also a steady member of the Mongo Santamariaband for many years. Continuing that tradition, Mitch is the sax/flute soloist and co-leader of The Mambo Legends Orchestra (former all-stars of The Tito PuenteOrchestra). Some of the great salsa/latin-jazz artists he has played with and/orrecorded with are Machito, Celia Cruz, La Lupe, Eddie & Charlie Palmieri, PaquitoD'Rivera, the Chico O'Farrill Orchestra, Milly/Jocelyn & Los Vecinos, Cheo Feliciano,Joe Cuba, Aventura, and many more. Mitch has also played with and/or recordedwith Cyndi Lauper, Paul Simon, David Byrne & The Talking Heads, as well as Blood,Sweat & Tears.

Currently, Mitch is leading two of the most the critically acclaimed Latin-jazz andsalsa dance bands, The Bronx Horns, and Eddie Torres' Mambo Kings Dance ShowOrchestra. Mitch also spends his time touring the world as the sax/flute soloist withthe Grammy award winning Spanish Harlem Orchestra. In addition to being an in-demand performer, Mitch is an accomplished clinician for students fromelementary age to college/conservatory level.

In 2012, Mitch took part in the documentary, "For the Love of Mambo". The filmfeatures the Mambo Legends Orchestra performing with the Latin Ensemble of theCrane School of Music at the State University of New York. Taking place in New

International Guitar Masters return to Cleveland to play Nighttown!

THE CALIFORNIA GUITAR TRIO’S RELENTLESS passion for following the muse hasserved it well. The acoustic group’s fearless multi-genre explorations have driven14 albums and nearly 1,500 gigs across its 22-year career. It has also proven that azero-compromise musical approach can yield an ever-expanding audience.Comprising Bert Lams of Affligem Belgium, Hideyo Moriya of Chiba Japan, and PaulRichards of Utah USA, the group crisscrosses the universes of rock, jazz, worldmusic, surf music, and classical music in its performances and recordings.

The trio met while participating in Robert Fripp’s Guitar Craft courses in 1987. Theyfirst toured together as part of Fripp’s League of Crafty Guitarists, an orchestra ofacoustic players that served as exponents of the King Crimson founder’s teachings,compositions, and performance approach. In 1991, they founded the CaliforniaGuitar Trio, which initially gained notoriety opening for the likes of King Crimson,John McLaughlin, and David Sylvian. They have fans in high places too: the crew ofthe Space Shuttle Endeavour used their pieces as wake-up music.

Recent years have found the group working with the Montreal Guitar Trio. The actsperform both independently and in a dazzling six-guitar format during gigs. Theyplay arrangements of each other’s material, as well as innovative takes on rockstandards. The collaboration has also yielded the concert recording +Live [CGT].

Diego Figueiredo (pronounced fig-a-ray-do) is considered one of the most talented guitar playersin the world today. Diego Figueiredo was born in Franca, Brazil in 1980. At the age of four he used to strike posescarrying his small guitar. At six, he received a mandolin, which was kept in a very special placein his house. Diego played many instruments before choosing the electric guitar when he wastwelve. By the age of fifteen, he was playing theaters and nightclubs throughout Brazil, playingboth solo and with many renowned Brazilian musicians.

Most recently he accompanies the singer and songwriter Belchior in tours around Brazil andabroad, as well as with the French phenom Cyrille Aimée. He has played and shared the stage

Performing the music of "Jazz Samba", the 1963 # 1Billboard Album that launched bossa nova to North America. The album featured Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd.“When you grow up in Cleveland, Ohio, playing in a Polish polka band, you learn tothink fast on your feet”, says Ken Peplowski, who played his first pro engagementwhen he was still in elementary school. “From my first time performing in public, Iknew I wanted to play music for a living.”

After a year of college, Ken joined the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra under thedirection of Buddy Morrow. “Buddy heard me with my quartet at a Cleveland jazzfestival along with Teddy Wilson’s trio and the Dorsey band, and made an offerright then and there for me to not only play lead alto, but to have a feature spot onthe clarinet with the rhythm section.

In 1980, Ken moved to New York City, and was soon playing in all kinds of settings,from Dixieland to avant-garde jazz. “Everything’s a learning experience in jazzmusic – there’s always an element of the unpredictable.” In 1984, Benny Goodmancame out of retirement and put together a new band, hiring Ken on tenorsaxophone.

Peplowski signed with Concord Records, under the tutelage of Carl Jefferson, thefounder and president, and recorded close to 20 albums as a leader, including“The Natural Touch” in 1992 which won Best Jazz Record of the Year.

“What’s in the future? “Who knows? I love all kinds of music, and I’d like to findmore opportunities to bridge the gaps between different musical styles – I considermyself an interpreter of material – if something interests me, I try to put my ownspin on it, without thinking or worrying about playing in any particular style.Basically, I like a challenge, I’m a sucker for a good melody, and I love playing foraudiences, big or small.”

One of the top clarinetists and tenor players of the 1990s till today, Ken Peplowski hashelped keep the tradition of small-group swing alive. He made his professional debut atten and played locally while growing up in Cleveland. After spending 1978-1980 touringwith the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra (directed by Buddy Morrow), Peplowski settled in NewYork, freelanced in a variety of settings, and played with Benny Goodman. By 1987, hewas a Concord recording artist and has since recorded frequently for that label, backingMel Tormé and Rosemary Clooney, and leading his own sets including brilliant duets withguitarist Howard Alden.

Nighttown favorite Joe Hunter has released two popular CD's in recent years. Hunter isthe pianist of choice in the Northeast Ohio area. He can be heard frequently in the FatTuesday Big Band, Swing City, and backing big name artists. He has backed many,including the legendary Tito Puente, and saxophonist David Sanborn, At Nighttown Hunterhas backed some several top guns including clarenetist Ken Peplowski, and saxophonistsDavid "Fathead" Newman, and Scott Hamilton. Joe Hunter is also on the faculty atCuyahoga Community College (Tri-C), one of the top jazz programs in the country.

John Delaney a founding member of the internationally acclaimed Irish group'Barleycorn', joined forces with Alec DeGabriele nine years ago to form 'The NewBarleycorn', after the other finished a 24 year run ending in 1995. John plays, 5string and tenor banjos, mandolin, guitar, whistle and bodhran. He also has playedbanjo on many other Irish artists' recordings.

Alec DeGabriele spent his formative years learning the business of music, theatreand entertaining with his families traveling theatrical show, 'The Shannon Players',which was well known and highly regarded throughout Ireland. Alec plays guitarand bass and was the band leader with a top Irish Show Band for some yearsbefore deciding to come to live in the U.S.A.

The newly formed band, Wolff & Clark Expedition, is co-led by pianist Michael Wolffand drummer Mike Clark. Both musicians started their careers in the San FranciscoBay area in the 1970's and have continued to create, record and perform into thenew millennium. Both have backgrounds performing and recording in the bands ofthe premiere jazz musicians of their time.

Michael Wolff was a member of the bands of Cannonball Adderley, Sonny Rollins,Jean Luc Ponty, Airto Moreira and Flora Purim, and singer Nancy Wilson, amongmany others. As musical director of The Arsenio Hall Show, Wolff performed withartists ranging from Yo Yo MA to Grandmaster Flash, and with Wayne Shorter,Herbie Hancock, and Chick Corea as well.

Mike Clark created his own innovative style of drumming as a member of HerbieHancock's Headhunters Band, and has gone on to be a leader of the Headhuntershimself. Clark has performed and recorded with Wayne Shorter, Wallace Roney,Donald Harrison, Chet Baker, Christian McBride, Eddie Henderson, NicholasPayton, Lenny White, and countless others.

The music of the Wolff & Clark Expedition takes advantage of the experience andsoulful playing of Wolff and ClarkCD, combining their looseness and experimentaljazz natures with their funky roots. They play their own deconstructed takes onfunky classics such as “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy,” “Song for My Father,” and theBeatle's “Come Together.” They also deconstruct jazz standards such as CharlieParker's “My Little Suede Shoes,” and Cole Porter's “What Is This Thing CalledLove?”.

Both Michael Wolff and Mike Clark are respected composers, and their originalsare a large part of the mix.

John McCutcheon is one of folk music’s great living storytellers. Revered aroundthe world for his thoughtful and inspiring songwriting and mastery of thehammered dulcimer, John McCutcheon’s career spans over twenty albums andseven Grammy nominations.

Wisconsin native John McCutcheon is an American folk music singer and multi-instrumentalist who has produced 34 albums since the 1970s.He is regarded as amaster of the hammered dulcimer, and is also proficient on many otherinstruments including guitar, banjo, autoharp, mountain dulcimer, fiddle, andjawharp.

McCutcheon, whose family background encompasses farmers and shoemakers,started playing guitar in the early 60s. He picked up a great number of traditionalAmerican songs and tunes from the Appalachians, and learned a wealth ofinstruments, including fiddle, banjo, autoharp and, most notably, the hammer-dulcimer. His playing of the latter encompasses folk, classical, jazz and many otherelements. McCutcheon's extensive recording legacy has attracted a string ofawards, and also seven Grammy nominations. He has recorded exclusively forRounder Records since the early 80s. Howjadoo was the first of several children'salbums which have established McCutcheon as arguably the leading artist withinthe genre. In the 90s his children's recordings included the Grammy-nominatedFour Seasons series, which featured many compositions co-written with long-timefriend and collaborator, Si Kahn. McCutcheon has also collected and recorded agood deal of Nicaraguan music, which was released by Rounder as a doublealbum, Nicaragua Presente!, in 1989. McCutcheon's prolific work rate has includedproduction work for several other folk artists, and he has also had publishedsongbooks and instructional materials.
