A practical use case
• Scenario: during a monthly executive meeting, a plant manager states that the ERP system was down for several hours last week. This is the first time the IT department has heard of this downtime.
• Solution: Plant manager and IT meet to define an SLA which is governed by Enterprise manager and includes:
• System response time (using EM service test) – execute transaction such as logon every 5 minutes
• System uptime (leveraging JDE E1 app pack “Uptime” and “User Sessions” metrics)
• Monthly reports that document system response and uptime
• Proactive alert when system response time exceeds 5 seconds
• Proactive alert when system is down
• Warning when User Sessions exceeds 100 concurrent users

Resource Management for JDE E1
• WHAT – Enhanced JDE E1 system administration tools to provide greater insight and diagnostics for E1 call object and UBE kernel processes.
• WHY – Meet the needs of large JDE E1 customers to increase system stability and simplify the troubleshooting process.
• HOW –• Graphs allow customers to quickly identify processes
with high resource consumption and recycling allows the ability to reclaim system resources.
• New diagnostics allows developers to quickly identify root cause of resource consumption issues.
• New tools allows the JDE E1 development and QE processes to identify and resolve resource consumption defects prior to RTM.
• RESULTS –
• Reduce the time it takes to obtain the required information for problem resolution from day/weeks to minutes/hours.
• Decrease the churn between customers and Oracle support by capturing the necessary diagnostics early in the SR process.
• Increase customer satisfaction through increased system uptime, improved software quality, and reduced time to resolve application issues.

Simplified Problem Resolution
Allows developers to quickly identify root cause
• Real time snapshot of Kernel Diagnostics:• Writes information to existing log files
• Capture memory allocation for the primary causes of memory leaks: • Data-Pointers, Cache Leaks, Orphaned Database Connections
• Developers analyze logs• Looking for open caches, un-freed pointers or open DB connections.
• Follow standard process for fixing issue.
• Enables troubleshooting in production:• No impact to performance
• No extra set-up, configuration or problem replication.
• Can be used for custom code, partner developed solutions and base code.
Using the diagnostics captured by

quickly see that a new
cache is being created
instead of reused.

UBE Data Selection and Application Query securityBusiness drivers
• Business challenge:
• A user removes or modifies the data selection criteria of a
report or interactive application upon submission.
• This causes the UBE or application to execute over a large
set of data resulting in system performance degradation
• This situation is sometimes referred to as a “wide open find”
• Solution – add security on
• Data selection screen during UBE submission
• Form header and QBE line for interactive applications,
including Data Browser
Data Selection SecurityPreventing wide open finds in UBEs
• WHAT – Capabilities to secure UBE data selection.
• WHY – For some UBEs, predefined data selection criteria is required to enforce data/business process integrity and system performance.
• HOW –• New security options in Security
Workbench.
• Security options:
• Completely lock down
• Secure user from modifying
• Secure user from deleting
• Secure user from
• RESULTS –
• Enforced data and business process integrity at user interaction layer.
• Improved system performance since users can’t submit UBEs with wide open data selection criteria.
• Consistent UBE performance.

• Exit from Security Workbench to
set required fields by app/form• Any one field required OR
• Any one of a list of Header or QBE
fields required
• Power users can be excluded
• Configurable message to user –
can be hard error or warning

Reduce Downtime for Deployments UBE Quick Deployment
Business challenge:
The deployment of update packages requires the system
administrator to schedule downtime
This process needs to lock all existing processes including
UBEs, Business Functions and Applications
Solution
Enhance the Update Package process to allow for immediate
deploy of packages that only have UBEs
Based on analysis, this will result in a 48% reduction in downtime
Transaction data integrity is enforced
