TRANSFORM! The signs point to change. This time it is more than just about superficial tweaking. It is about new mindsets and perspectives. The principle of conventional seasonal rhythms is under review. Surprising correlations bring the rustic up alongside the technological. Within this innovation process, tradition takes on new value.
demand for innovation, added value and unique selling points on the textile and fashion market into consideration. The highlight of the supporting programme is an exclusive lecture by the renowned trend expert Li Edelkoort presenting her interpretations on the topic of TRANSITION for Spring.Summer 18 at MUNICH FABRIC START and providing initial insights into the 18/19 Autumn.Winter season. Furthermore, numerous expert workshops, panel discussions and trend seminars on seasonal themes and technology, finishing and research will also be on the agenda.
TENDENCIES FOR SPRING.SUMMER 18
Nature, lightness and rusticity are the greatest material needs of the season. Materials, such as linen, ramie, silk and viscose are mixed with artificial fibres, if necessary. The result is a high-tech rusticity with sturdy surfaces, for example when linen meets technical coatings that let the original character of the fabric shine through. Highly perceptible structures and 3D-techniques are profiled haptically. Fancy effect yarn blends and slub yarns provide interesting weaving structures between natural and artificial. Technical innovations do not only add function, they also enable the game with futuristic effects. Fabrics from tailoring and sportswear are combined in progressive collections. Prints revel in inspirations of foreign cultures, especially Arab influences. The ornamental prints are often mixed with more organic motifs. Stripes and XXL motifs are revived by deformation and unusual proportions. Metallic surfaces and patterns inspired by insect shells shimmer in technical nuances.

With over 100 denim and sportswear brands the lately expanded BLUEZONE is again more highly subscribed prompting its extension over two halls. The ALL STAR MILLS BLUEZONE in Hall 7 offers an international denim and sportswear portfolio of denim powerhouses and leisure excellence. As usual, the Zenith Hall will be host to 75 brands exhibiting their latest developments for denim and sportswear. These ranges are rounded off by such denim-related products as flats, cord, washed and dyed materials. In-depth Trend Forums will provide insights into forward-looking developments, finishes, colours and styles. Transparent and light-flooded, the area offers a new stand system as cross-over between purism and vintage that projects progressive modernity, providing every brand a dedicated cube.
At CATALYZER, the new Hall 6, denim heritage and blueprints will be showcased with a focus on sustainability and innovation. In hall 6, 25 exhibitors will present their product ranges in the segments Denim Heritage and Blueprints. This interplay of key components in product design and presentation is also picked up on by the consciously chosen architecture of tradition dovetailing with modernity. The preserved building substance of solid stone walls is met with lightness and light thanks to large glass domes and open steel girders. The individual and original spatial layout is kept intact thanks to the exciting stand design arising here. „Catalyzer as a supplementary area at BLUEZONE that decisively reinforces and sharpens the range for denim and sportswear. The additional area makes it possible to further deepen product definition ensuring designers and buyers gain even more comprehensive insight into the current developments and creative input concepts for denim and sportswear,“ says Managing Director Sebastian Klinder.
With over 100 brands the two halls of the BLUEZONE are once again fully booked. With 75 established denim mills in Hall 7 the ALL STAR MILLS alone presents an international premium portfolio and current developments, finishes and washes for denim & sportswear. New names here include: ALBIATE 1830, KURABO, DENIM STUDIO, BLU INTERNATIONAL, CRESENT, REDMARK FIEMOUNT and SPORTY.
DENIM TRENDS
Intensify, focus, concentrate: in AMPLIFIER, denim trends are brought to a climax. Opposite trends are juxtaposed with equal strenghts and generate an energetic, electrifying field that pushes denim to its creative limits and maximizes its expressiveness. Advancements, modifications and, above all, the enhancement of existing trends shape and determine the jeans sector for spring, summer and autumn 2018. These include expressive surfaces with haptic structures as well as varied weaves, modern jacquards and minimal, urban prints. Piece-dyed flat fabrics with denim-inspired washings, warp-dyed denims, hand-painted details, Japanese batik and fringes turn jeans into small, individual works of art that tell stories. Shapes step it up a notch as well: Extremely flexible, body conscious silhouettes in new stretch fabrics meet cuts with excess width and a roomy feel featuring gatherings, pleats and lacing details.

Hans-Peter Hiemer Business4Brands Consulting: “For our company MUNICH FABRIC START has be-come a key communication platform. Our international business partners use MUNICH FABRIC START togeth-er with us to research the key product trends. MFS is favourably timed for this, especially for fast-developing, innovative brand concepts. We also appreciate the ever successful blend of professional range and relaxed working atmosphere.”
Arianna Morimando, Berto E.G: “The increasing number of fairs dedicated to the denim sector is clear testimony to the particular attention that the fashion business, and not only, is paying towards this sector. As for our German business, BLUEZONE is definitely the most important exhibition. It is the second event in our trade fair schedule, where we go with the new collection. First our customers come to Denim by, but they start placing orders in Munich. This show al-lows us to have the first real and tangible feedback on our work.”
GORDON GIERS, CLOSED:“We highly appreciate MUNICH FABRIC START be-cause this event is simply unique especially in conjunc-tion with BLUEZONE. We focus on trousers and the ranges on display here are perfect. We mainly source for the coming winter, we have already concluded the autumn programme”.
// TESTIMONIALSExhibitor Testimonials at MUNICH FABRIC START in a Nutshell:
JULIEN EICKELMANN, VICUNHA:“The trade fair once again went very well for us – we are very satisfied with the footfall and customer interest. The two new halls complement the ranges well, and this addition to the trade fair also attracts a wider audi-ence. Communication and exchange is great here; in the BLUEZONE we especially welcome the new, more open-plan stand design as it supports this relaxed busi-ness atmosphere.“
Thomas Geiger, Textilagentur Geiger:“MUNICH FABRIC START follows on seamlessly from the medium/high-end ranges already presented at VIEW. New developments pick up on the latest trends and translate these for the further delivery dates of the main collections or second lines of the new season. For our customers MUNICH FABRIC START has also gained importance from season to season. Progres-sively anticipatory season cycles increasingly underline the right timing of MUNICH FABRIC START. Compared with other international fairs this trade show offers our customers shorter distances and lower costs.”
GÜLFEM SANTO, ORTA ANADOLU:“We have had two highly productive trade fair days with many good conversations. Altogether, the communica-tive aspect is very much in the foreground for us at this trade fair. This is where the European denim community meets and this is also always very informative and in-spiring for us as producers, too.”
