    Background

    The Buklod Atenista is an umbrella organization of all student councils fromthe five Ateneos in the country. Established in 1982, its main purpose was to

    provide a venue for sharing ideas on student concerns, and have a common

    plan and a common vision among different Ateneo universities.

    As stipulated in its constitution, the Buklod Atenista is grounded on

    several fundamental beliefs. First, that basic Ignatian values such as respect

    for humanity, dignity, freedom, justice, and service to our fellow men and

    women must at all times be upheld and propagated; that nationalism be inculcated in all Ateneans;

    that education is humanistic, spiritual, nationalistic, and oriented towards the common good and is

    unified in theory and practice that academic excellence, spiritual formation, and social awareness witha direct involvement thereto, be the primary concern of all its members; and finally, that students be

    catalysts of change.

    Its main concrete program is the annual Buklod Atenista Leaders Summit whose foremost

    objective is to enhance the leadership skills of the delegates through the exchange of ideas and

    strategies for effective meaningful service for the Ateneo community. The member councils namely

    the (1) Sanggunian ng mga Mag-aaral ng mga Paaralang Loyola ng Ateneo de Manila University, (2)

    SAMAHAN Central Board of Ateneo de Davao University, (3) Supreme Student Government of Ateneo

    de Naga University, the (4) Central Student Government of Xavier University Ateneo de Cagayan

    and (5) El Consejo Atenista of Ateneo de Zamboanga University, take turns in hosting the summitThere is also a Mid-Year Conference held every October that is geared to give updates on resolutions

    crafted during the Leaders Summit, enhancing more leadership opportunities and nurturing

    relationship amongst each member institution.
