Here are some safety tips for beach lovers:

1. Never swim alone.Always swim in a beach with lifeguards. Before going for a dip, talk to the lifeguard about the conditions of the beach, the waves, current, and wind.

2. Learn how to swim and know your limitations.Even if you know how to swim in a pool, remember that swimming in a pool is very different from swimming at a beach. The winds, currents, and crashing waves are unpredictable and can change quickly. Swimming in currents and waves could cause fatigue and drown even a seasoned swimmer.

3. Use a flotation device to protect you from rip currents.Smooth water located between breaking waves could be a sign of a rip current. Ask the lifeguard about using a US Coast Guard approved flotation device.
