Releasing the limitation of the output number when stapling a few sheets of paper at the DF

The current limitation to stop outputting at 150 sets to prevent the stack of paper from falling from the main tray with sets of paper consisting of a few sheets of paper with 1 staple is changed. The firmware is upgraded so the limitation to stop the paper output at 150 sets can be set in maintenance mode U237 (Setting finisher stack quantity). The content of setting "0" and "1" after selecting the "Main Tray" in the maintenance mode U237 is changed. [Before change] With staple 0: Number of the paper stacked on the main tray is 150 sets or - 1500 sheets if 30 or less sheets are stapled. - 4000 sheets if 31 or more sheets are stapled. 1: Number of the paper stacked on the main tray is 150 sets or 1500

sheets. Without staple 0: Number of the paper stacked on the main tray is 4000 sheets. (*1) 1: Number of the paper stacked on the main tray is 1500 sheets. [After change] With staple 0: Number of the paper stacked on the main tray is 4000 sheets. (*1) 1: Number of the paper stacked on the main tray is 150 sets or - 1500 sheets if 30 or less sheets are stapled. - 4000 sheets if 31 or more sheets are stapled. Without staple 0: Number of the paper stacked on the main tray is 4000 sheets. (*1) 1: Number of the paper stacked on the main tray is 4000 sheets. (*1) (*1): The above numbers are when the small size paper is used. If the large size paper is

used, number is decreased to 1500. Default: 0

2 Corrective measure for failure of the paper width paddle operation when ejecting Executive paper (7.25 × 10.5 inch)

Details of Changes

No. Changes and Implementations Remarks

1 Reducing the toner dropping to the transfer belt

Toner is accumulated on the fur brush when continuously printing high coverage and it may drop to the transfer belt if the accumulation exceeds the certain amount. Thus, the following is changed. [Change]

・It is so changed to rapidly rotate the transfer belt cleaner fur brush linked with

the LSU cleaning timing in order to eject the toner. Also, the ejected toner is collected by driving the transfer belt and drum to apply the bias.

2 Measure for the paper backside contamination during the print operation

Negatively-charged toner may remain after transfer depending on the type of paper and as a result, the cleaning failure may occur. The following change is implemented. [Change] While the positive bias is conventionally applied between pages for Bond only, it is now applied for all the media types.

3 Shortening the recovery time for

the quiet mode at low

temperature

For details, please refer to the

following pages

It may require more time before starting to print in the quiet mode as the fuser is warmed up at every print operation. The following change is implemented. [Change] The starting temperature for the low temperature compensation can now be changed in the maintenance mode. [READY TIME ADJUST] is added to the U161. Note) The fusing ability may be affected with no aging when the starting

temperature for the low temperature compensation is set to low.

4 Corrective measures for the excessive toner concentration at the trailing edge of solid image Newly added as described at right for the TASKalfa 7550ci/6550ci (Added to the U464) Changed as described at right for the TASKalfa 5550ci/4550ci/3550ci/3050ci

・[Edge Reduction] in the U464 is changed to [Solid Image].

・VslvDC is reduced by 20V in the color print mode.

(The following are changed after the change to VslvDC.)

・Adjustment change to each compensation value

・Toner Dispose Amount change

・Target Value change

5 Corrective measures for the physical paper size error detection failure The physical paper size error occurs when the paper size set for the paper source and what is actually printed is different. (e.g. A4 size is set for the MP tray but A5 size is placed and fed.)

While the physical paper size error is detected when the paper eject is completed, if a paper jam is detected before the paper ejection, the paper is then held and the physical paper size error cannot be detected. The physical size error occurs again after clearing the jam and the feed operation starts, triggering a jam at the DF eject or duplex copy operation. [Change] The physical paper size error is now detected when it occurs instead of at the paper eject timing, displaying the error message to call user’s attention. (The following messages appear when the physical paper size error occurs.)

- [Check MP tray paper] - [Paper size error] - Load selected size paper and press [Continue]

6 Preventing the start-up failure after installing the Panel Plus

The Panel Plus with customized panel setting may fail to start up due to an error. This is corrected.

7 Preventing the F2A6 error When sending via NW-Fax or in-Fax, even if an error is detected internally, it tries to operate normally, triggering the F2A6 error. As a preventative measure, it is changed to terminate Fax sending with error.

8 Corrective measure for the event mail sending failure

The event mail may not be sent even if the event mail setting is enabled. This is corrected.

No. Changes and Implementations Remarks

9 Measure for the F000 error with the HyPAS application

The F000 error may occur with certain operations using the Sequim (HyPAS). This is corrected.

10 Measure for the U332 problem with the Printing System 11/12 (Fiery) installed machines

The U332 (Setting the size conversion factor) Mode=1 sets the color coverage count threshold by color coverage (Low, Middle, High) but it is not correct in the machines with the Printing System 11/12 (Fiery) installed. This is corrected.

11 Corrective measure for the cancellation of "Low Toner" state in the event report

The "Low Toner" state may be cancelled in the event report. This is corrected. (If “Add Toner” displays when multiple ”Low Toner” occur, even other color’s “Low Toner” is cancelled.)

12 Corrective measure for the duplicate content in the maintenance mails

Listing of the service call errors may duplicate in the attachment file in the maintenance mail. This is corrected.

13 Correction in the HyPAS Part of the HyPAS function does not operate. This is corrected.

14 Function improvement in the copy service setting

The panel screen motion is slow if the copy service mode is enabled in the U206. This is corrected.

15 French panel message correction

The French panel message is changed as follows. (Message at the installation of the Data Security KIT) (French) Wrong: Remplacement du disque dur Correct: écrasement disque dur (English) Overwriting Hard Disk.

Enhancement

No. Changes and Implementations Remarks

16 Eliminating the punch unit firmware from the enhancement firmware upgrade pack

The punch unit firmware is eliminated from the enhancement firmware upgrade pack as an error may occur with some models if downloading the punch unit firmware when the punch unit is not installed in the DF. (No problem is expected unless the DF is installed.)

Shortening the recovery time for the quiet mode at low temperature

- [READY TIME ADJUST] is added to the U161.

- Shorten the recovery time by changing the setting value α as necessary.

If the value α is small, it is not regarded as low temperature and the maximum post-warm-up aging time is

reduced.

In order to secure the fusing temperature at 18oC temperature or less, the post-warm-up aging starts when the

[Ready] lamp turns on.

jam

For improving the margin against the stepping motor from step-out, this is so

changed that the hold time is secured 20ms or more when requested to turn

on again until turning off the excitation after slow-down of the stepping motor.

12 Corrective measures for the problems

when using the pre-punched paper.

<Reference service bulletin>

2LC-0094(C214)/2K9-0029(C245)

“Corrective measures for the paper

tear/jam of at the switchback section

and the horizontal line on the image

at the paper rear side. (When using

3-hole pre-punched paper*)”

If using the 3-hole pre-punched paper, the regist sensor may mistakenly

detect the center hole among 3 as the paper rear end and then the motor

driving the regist roller may stop once although the paper rear end after 3

holes is nipped at the regist roller section after passing 3 holes.

As a result, the horizontal line on the image may appear on the paper rear

side. This is corrected.

[Change]

In the case the media type is the pre-punched paper,

- Timing for stopping the regist roller is delayed by 10mm.

- Timing for watching each sensor is revised.

- The interval between pages is extended for improving the margin against

the paper slip. (Decreased the productivity down to 80 %.)

Enhancement unit firmware Applied

1 Change of the detection of JAM9001

[DP original conveying jam].

(Refer to the following pages for

details.)

JAM9001 detection is revised because the short length original becomes irremovable by entering into the space between the rollers and then JAM9001 cannot be cleared. [Change] The jam timer is changed to 130mm because the distance between the rollers nipping the original is 129.1mm.

Timing switch ON to OFF:

(Before) The jam code displays if the time is 110mm or less.

(After) The jam code displays if the time is 130mm or less.

DP-771

2 Corrective measures for JAM1514 The paper jam may occur or the paper may be fold in accordion

if feeding the paper from the cassette 4 without the document

finisher. This is corrected.

[Change]

The data may not be read by retied due to delay of the

communication with the engine. Thus, the control is revised so

that the communication is not excessively concentrated.

PF-730 PF-740 PF-770 PF-780

3 Change of way to clear the jam

(SMT).

Currently, JAM0000 occurring at PF-780 can be cleared by

opening both of the top cover and the right cover and then

closing the both covers. This time, this is changed so that it can

be cleared by opening and closing either of the covers in order.

PF-780

4 Improving the productivity of PF-770. According to revision of the control in the main machine, the

50mm interval between pages is eliminated when feeding the

paper from PF-770.

PF-770

5 Change of the control for conveying

Monarch envelop.

When continuously ejecting the paper to the sub tray, Monarch

envelop is processed as the largest paper size because it is

regarded as irregular size. Depending on the control, the DF

exit motor’s speed is reduced to 400mm/sec at a defined timing

although the DF conveying motor speeds up 600mm/sec after

passing through the DF paper entrance sensor. As a result, the

paper jam may occur by the DF paper conveying motor's step-

out due to the speed gap between the DF paper conveying

motor and the DF exit motor. This is corrected.

[Change]

This is changed so that the control judges the DF paper

conveying speed when reducing the DF exit motor’s speed, and

then stops reducing the DF exit motor’s speed if the DF paper

conveying speed is 600m/sec.

DF-790

6 Support for the new models. The control is changed for supporting FS-C8600DN and

FS-C8650DN.

5. In case of setting U250 to 0, the maintenance time is not displayed.

6. As for the display on the Command Center (CCRX), they are displayed on the status message of the device status.

However, if the prior status may occur, they are not displayed. And, if reaching the maintenance time of the multi-paper

source at the same timing, only the one of them is displayed. (It is not reflected to the other utilities, etc.)

7. The following are required when upgrading the firmware in field.

- Change the base page counts to 150K that is newly added in U250.

- Input the page counts of U901 to the page counts for the maintenance in U251.

(If exceeding 150K, please replace with the new paper feeding pulley and input 0 to U251.)

(The machine shipped from the factory with the new firmware has no particular problems.)

8. If the prior message is displayed on the operation panel, they are not displayed.

2. Auto switching of the default paper source for the large capacity feeder (PF-740/770).

This change enables auto switching to the feeder having the smallest page counts as the default paper source in order to

equalize the use frequency of the paper feeding pulley at the large capacity feeder. (PF-740/PF-770)

1. [Auto Switch] is added to the paper source setting in the Menu.

[System Menu] > [Common Setting] > [Original/Paper Settings] > [Default Paper Source]

> [Auto Switch] (*) --- [off] or [on] <-- Added.

(*) Unless the cassette # of the large capacity feeder (PF-740 or PF-770) is selected in [Default Paper Source],

[Auto Switch] is not displayed.

Initial setting when shipping the machine from factory: [on].

2. If upgrading the firmware in field, [Auto Switch] is set as [off]. Thus, change it to [on] manually.

(The machine shipped from the factory with the new firmware does not need to change the above setting.)

3. If all of the following 5 conditions are fulfilled, the auto switching of the default paper source is executed when starting up the

main power or recovering from the sleep mode only.

1) [Auto Switch] is set to [on] that is added to [Menu].

2) Total of the large capacity paper source is 2 and more regarding the large capacity feeder PF-740/PF-770.

(PF-740 containing the 2 large capacity paper sources can fulfill this condition by installing one unit only.)

3) The large capacity feeder (PF-740 or PF-770) is selected in the default paper source setting.

4) The multiple large capacity paper sources including the default paper source have the same paper size and same

media type setting

5) The large capacity paper source that has smallest page counts (U251) of the applied large capacity paper sources is

switched as the default paper source. Please execute the following when upgrading the firmware in field because the

designed operation is not executed unless the correct value is registered at U251.

- Input the page counts of U901 to the page counts for the maintenance in U251.

(If exceeding 150K, please replace with the new paper feeding pulley and input 0 to U251.)

6 Preventing error (F248/ F615) when transmitting FAX

When FAX is sent with the FAX transmission result report ON, error may be detected. This has been corrected. (F248/ F615)

7 Measure for prolonged time for the handset to ring

It may take extra time before the HDD operates normally after coming out of sleep mode. This may cause the handset to delay responding. This has been corrected.

8 Registration support from Command Center 1

Custom Box cannot be added from Command Center by using Access Lock (HyPAS application). This has been corrected.

9 Registration support from Command Center 2

When registering Scan to SMB from Command Center, if you press the “TEST” button and confirm the communication OK before starting to register, communication error 1102 may trigger, disabling registration. This has been corrected.

10 Measure for the paper feed failure from designated cassette

The Prescribe print data sent with the PF cassette command may be printed on the paper fed from the priority cassette not from the designated cassette. This has been corrected.

11 Measure for output error with the data stored in the Box

When the A3 landscape data stored in the Box using the KX Driver (KPDL) is printed, it may result in A3 portrait. This has been corrected.

12 Measure for F248 ----------

13 Changing the cassette setting when using the copy service application

When the copy button is pressed after inserting a coin through the coin vender while using the copy service application, the paper feed cassette will be set to the MP tray. This has been corrected. 16 Measure for the color background image when printing on envelopes [Change to maintenance mode]

When printing in black/white half speed mode, it will be in color half speed mode. As a result, the color background issue may occur with envelope printing. U486 (Setting color/black&white setting mode) is changed so the black/white half speed print mode can be selected. U486 Mode (Original item) Permission On/Off (New addition) Off: Current setting --- Color print - Default On: New setting ------- Black/white print (3 colors released)* * Please select On setting if the problem occurs. Please note, however, that with this setting, jitter mark may appear.

17 Measure for white dots when printing on thick paper [Change to maintenance mode] <Please refer to the last page for default for the newly added setting in U101/U106. >

When printing on the thick stiff paper (300g), depending on the transfer conditions, Transfer current may become excessive, causing white dots on the image. As a measure, the following changes are carried out. - Primary transfer current and secondary transfer current are lowered for Heavy4 and Heavy5 setting. - The following changes are made so Heavy4 and Heary5 can be set. -- The following items are added to U101 (Setting the voltage for the primary transfer) U101 Add Color Normal Add Color 2nd Heavy4/5 (New addition) -- Heavy2-5 in U106 (Setting the voltage for the secondary transfer) is changed to Heavy2/3 and Heavy4/5. U106 Heavy2-5 (Original)

U106 Heavy2/3 (Same setting as Heavy2-5 above) Heavy4/5 (New addition)

18 Measure for condensation Change to maintenance mode See the following pages for details.

A condensation mode is added to U148 (Setting drum refresh mode). (Condensation mode) Execute the drum refresh mode after calculating the relative humidity around the drum based on the machine outside temperature/humidity and the inside temperature. U148 Normal (Original drum refresh mode) Dew Condensation (New addition) Input 0-3. (Default: 0) 0 : Disabled 1,2,3 : More the value, more the frequency of refresh operation

19 Measure for C510x C510x: Main high-voltage error

The C510x error may be detected in a low temperature environment. The following changes are implemented as a measure. - Change to the charger adjustment table - Change to the charger adjustment method when the machine inside temperature is less than 5 degrees C. (Perform the charger adjustment five (5) times and apply the lowest optimum value.)

- Change to the charger error detection - When error is detected, C-code will be displayed after five (5) seconds.

(As the charger error may be caused not only by the high voltage board failure but also by the drum motor error, extra time is given to check for the drum motor torque problem. If it is caused by the drum motor error, the C221x will light.)

20 Measure for the color output failure If you turn the power OFF immediately after power ON when completing the firmware update, the backup data fails to be initialized, causing the color output failure, etc. This has been corrected. [Change] The backup data will be updated five (5) seconds after the power ON.

21 Measure to prevent the BK mode reset failure when the color toner empty is detected

If it is set to enter the BK mode when the color toner empty is detected, even if the BK mode setting is requested for unexpected reasons, there is no trigger to reset. The following change is made. [Change] At power up or when coming out of sleep mode, if there is no empty color toner, the BK mode will be reset. * If the BK mode cannot reset after replacing the color toner, please cycle the power with this firmware to reset the BK mode.

22 Preventing the C8420 in punch mode C8420: Punch slide motor error 2

When the paper width changes in the punch mode setting with mixed width paper printing and Mailbox or tray B as output tray, there is no finisher initialization taking place. As a result, the paper width cannot be detected when performing the punch operation, triggering the C8420. (This may occur when the paper width is changed from small to large size.) [Change] When using the mixed width paper with the punch mode setting, finisher initialization will be carried out when paper width is switched.

23 Change to the type name for the Color table (Prn) in U485

One (1) type name is changed for the color table that is to be registered for Color Table 1 (prn) or Color Table 2 (prn) in U485. (This is only the description change.) TYPE_CA TYPE_FUTYPE_FJ TYPE_TO TYPE_KO TYPE_RH TYPE_KY (There is no change to other type names.)

24 Measure for stack failure with

downward curl paper

When small-size paper has a downward curl, it may push the

paper on the output tray out or it may roll up due to the curl,

causing the stack failure. The following change is carried out as

a measure.

[Change]

When using small size paper (smaller than A4 lateral/Letter

lateral) in sort mode, the tray will be lifted close to the paper exit

opening to have the paper ejected onto the tray as close as

possible.

- When using the paper size and the mode as described above,

the top edge of the tray will be stopped according to the paper

See the following pages for details.

When jam occurs during the continuous feed from CAS4 (left

side) (1500-sheet cassette x 2), if you open CAS4 (left side)

before opening CAS3 (right side) and lateral conveying unit, the

paper becomes damaged making it difficult to clear the jam. This

has been corrected.

[Change]

If the paper is turning the CAS4 feed sensor ON when jam

occurs, the paper will be forwarded until its leading edge turns the

lateral conveying switch ON. This will also apply to the main unit

jam or PF jam.

Performance enhancement 2

Jam handling enhancement at bridge (AK) section Please upgrade the DF-790/770 firmware at the same time. Or a JAM may result.

Depending on the position of the jammed paper, the paper may become torn between the bridge and the main unit exit section or between the bridge and the finisher when the bridge is pulled out, making it difficult to clear the paper completely. As a preventative measure, the following changes are carried out. [Content of Changes] The control is changed so when a paper jam occurs between the bridge and the main unit exit section, the paper shall be ejected to the bridge section and when it occurs between the bridge and the finisher, the paper shall be ejected to the finisher side whenever possible.

Measure for MPF no paper feed jam (J0509) (J0509: No paper feed from MP tray)

As a paper feed performance improvement of the MPF, the retry operation is increased from one to three (3) times).

Implementing the error message notice to the Print Fleet

Currently, the main unit status (error message, etc.) is displayed with the Alert number only. This has been changed to display with a sentence.

Preventative measure for the ghost image caused by condensation on the drum

Stop the eject unit cooling fan from the time the initial warm-up starts to up to ten (10) minutes except during the print operation. If the fan stops within ten (10) minutes due to open cover, etc., the same control shall be activated from the next warm-up operation for up to ten (10) minutes. Once exceeding ten (10) minutes, a normal control will run until the power OFF or entering the sleep mode.

Changing the conditions for drum refresh mode

Frequency of the drum refresh mode is changed according to the elapsed time since the last drive time when the power is ON (if coming out of sleep mode, the length of time in the mode).

・ Less than three (3) hours: No refresh operation

----- (With Pack Ver. 2.00 and higher)

・ Three (3) to les than six (6) hours: Once when in normal mode.

(Exception: Four (4) times if the temperature/humidity is more than

30℃/75%.

If the short or long mode is set, follow the setting.

・ More than six (6) hours: Follow the mode setting.

Preventing the color density fluctuation before and after calibration

Accuracy in calibration is increased.

Disabling the output onto the B tray when using the main box (MT-730)

Currently, even if the main unit is in the partial operation control mode, the tray B can be selected as the output tray and this may trigger a paper jam. As a preventative measure, the following modification is carried out. [Content of Change] The output onto tray B is now disabled if the main unit is in the partial operation control mode.

Preventing the J0131 (MP lift sensor upper limit detection)/ C1000 (MP lift motor error)

The error detection time was 1.5 seconds for the 3050ci/3550ci/4550ci and the 5550ci. It is now changed to 3 seconds like other models.

Changes and Implementations Remarks

Preventing a stain on the rear side of paper after calibration

During calibration, the toner (oppositely charged toner) on the secondary transfer roller is returned to the belt. In some cases, the cleaning brush cannot completely clean the returned toner, staining the secondary transfer roller when running the first sheet after calibration, causing the rear side of paper to become stained. The following changes are carried out to reduce the oppositely charged toner. [Change]

・ Change the primary transfer bias switch timing during calibration.

・ Change the secondary transfer forward bias application timing.

Measure for C710x C710x: C7101/C7102/C7103/C7104 Toner sensor error for each color

Once the print job is interrupted, there is a 50msec timing when toner cannot be monitored between the last paper recognition process and the print resume process. If the print job is received at this timing, the toner will not be supplied due to toner detection failure and as a result, the C710X error may trigger. This has been corrected.

Measure for C710X after the F183 error occurs *C7101: Toner sensor K error *C7102: Toner sensor C error *C7103: Toner sensor M error *C7104: Toner sensor Y error

In some cases, paper feed may be requested from an empty cassette when the F183 occurs. If the process to start drive is carried out before print cancellation is notified, only the DC for charge bias may become turned ON (AC is OFF) and after the imaging process, solid image may be output. This has been corrected.

Preventing the PCL-XL error when outputting a certain PDF

When printing a certain PDF (KX Driver, PCL-XL, Outline), the PCL-XL error may occur. This has been corrected.

Preventing the F248 error with a certain PDF output

This has been corrected.

Measure for the cassette lift place failing to lift after Jam clearing

After clearing the jam during the continuous print operation and pulling out/in the cassette, the cassette lift motor does not operate; the lift plate does not go up while paper is in the cassette, indicating there is “0” paper remaining. This has been corrected.

ACK-595 by Adesso added to the usable option keyboard

The keyboard by Adesso (ACK-595) always lockup when the power is turned ON. This has been addressed.

Adding the cancel print function when running the test copy in U034/U066/U067

Modification is made so you can now cancel the test copy printing in maintenance mode.

・ While running a test copy, upon the STOP key press timing, a quick Job list displays on the test coy screen, allowing you to cancel specified Job.

New addition of the paper size fixing function when copying the small size original [Addition to the System Menu]

The following changes are made to allow you to set the paper size when printing

the small size original (driver’s license, etc.) that cannot be detected with the

auto paper setting. [Change] New setting item “Small original size” is added to the system menu.

・ System menu Copy Small original size

・ The following sizes are available A4R/A4Y/A5R/A6R/B5R/

B5Y/B6R/LETTER R/LETTER Y/STATEMENT/ Priority cassette

Supporting the high compression PDF file for the default viewer display on Mac and iPhone

When a high compression PDF file is sent using “Scan to e-mail” and opened with iPhone or iPad, it does not display correctly. This has been corrected.

Change to the remaining toner amount indication See the following pages for details.

The indication that appears when in toner low condition (5%) seems empty and unclear. It has been changed.

Change for easier direction to the MP Tray button when setting the paper

When you need to select the “MP tray” at the copy paper setting, you press the “Paper selection” and then “More” that can be a little confusing. The description of button is now changed as follows. [Change] “More” “More/MP Tray”

Correcting U429 (setting the offset for color balance)

When executing U429, it will also affect other than the copy output. This has been corrected so it will reflect only on the copy output.

Addition of JAM counts and C-call counts to the maintenance report Please see page 14 for details.

The information of U903 (JAM counts) and U904 (Service call counts) are added to the last page of the maintenance report. Additionally, when the data is reset, “Reset date”, “Count after reset date”, “Cumulative counter after ex-factory” will be indicated.

・ As a measure to reduce the drive noise from the motor itself, the

eject motor drive control is changed from wave drive to a ½ step drive

for all linear speeds. [7550ci/6550ci/8000i/6500i] DP standard equipped models

・ As a measure to reduce the drive noise from the motor itself, the

eject motor drive control is changed from wave drive to a ½ step drive

for all linear speeds.

・ As a measure for the change of tone due to the difference in speed

when ejecting the originals, the originals will now be ejected in scan

speed for a certain eject operation.

(Please note, however, that the eject speed is set to the original 300mm/s only for the initial ejection of the original smaller than A4R or Letter R to prevent a secondary problem.)

the DP motors), the drive direction is reversed from the eject direction.

This has been corrected.

Changing the process when

running the initial developer

setting

When replacing with the service part DV Unit, initial developer setting

will be performed at the time when the power is turned ON. However,

a problem may occur under the following conditions. This has been

corrected.

[Conditions]

1. The initial developer setting operation may not be completed

properly when calibration is executed in U464, if you enter the

maintenance mode within 2 minutes after turning the power ON

upon replacement of DV unit.

2. As to the control conditions for the initial developer setting operation,

in some cases, it may be controlled by only the DV unit side

information.

[Change]

1. Even if entering the maintenance mode in the middle of initial

developer setting operation, in the case where calibration is

executed in U464, initial developer setting operation will be

prioritized and only after it is completed, calibration will be executed.

2. The control for the initial developer setting operation is reviewed.

Scanner Change to the black streaks

detection specification

[Content 1]

The following changes are carried out as a measure to prevent the

display failure of cleaning guidance.

[Current issue 1]

Currently the black streak reduction mode is ON as default setting. In

this setting, the guidance will be displayed based on the designated

number of scanned pages and not when black streaks are detected.

[Measure 1]

If the black streaks occur during the scan operation even once

between pages, the DP scan position will be shifted for the next Job.

Once the DP scan position matches with the DP scan home position,

the black streaks cleaning guidance will display.

[Content 2] [Current issue 2]

The guidance does not display if the count at last paper matches with

designated number of pages, as the counter to compare with the

designated original number is between pages.

[Measure 2]

Count timing is now changed from between pages to after one page is

scanned. Additionally, as to comparison with the designated number

of pages, it is changed from the count between pages to the number

of pages at the completion of Job.

Preventing lockup when

copying the book originals

When setting the book original on the original platen, if the original

detection switch is repeatedly cycled, machine lockup may occur.

This has been corrected.

Measure for the DP original

size detection error

The original size detection error may occur if the originals are

removed and reloaded while the “Remove originals in document

processor.” message displays after pressing the [Cancel] button

during the DP scan. This has been corrected.

Measure for the long edge

original size detection error

The long edge original size may not be correctly detected if the long

edge original size switch is quickly changed from the OFF setting to

ON, OFF and then ON while the originals are set. While the long

edge size is ON, the OFF size may be displayed. This has been

corrected.

the platen cover, depending on the timing, machine lockup may occur

with the lamp illuminated. This has been corrected.

Preventing the operation error

when running U411 with the

platen cover open

If U411 (Adjusting the scanner automatically) is executed for the Table

with the original platen cover switch being OFF (the Cover is open), a

carriage operation error may occur. This has been corrected.

DP-771 Measure for the C0630 error The C0630 error may be detected when coming out of sleep mode.

This has been corrected.

Measure for the “16KE”

original jam with the document

Box save screen

When the “16KE” originals are set on the DP with the document Box

save screen, jam may trigger before the secondary feed of the third

original. This has been corrected.

Corrective measure for the

image dropout at the trailing

edge of punched originals

The trailing edge of punched originals may drop out at rear side when

simultaneously scanning in duplex mode. This has been corrected.

[Change]

If the punch hole overlaps the CIS timing sensor when scanning the

punched originals, the punch hole may be judged as the trailing edge

of paper. Therefore, it is changed that if the sensor ON detection

occurs within 20mm after OFF detection, the CIS timing sensor will

judge it as a punch hole and wait for the next detection of trailing

edge.

(Also

applicable to

DP-770)

Change to JAM9010

(Document processor open)

detecting condition

JAM9010 may trigger when opening the DP to scan other original

from the scanner table when the last original is ejected. This has

been corrected.

[Change]

JAM9010 detecting condition is changed. Jam will not be detected

after scanning the last original.

Measure to prevent JAM9310

in simplex color mode

JAM9310: DP CIS sensor stay jam

JAM9310 may be detected when DP-scanning the color originals in

600-dpi in simplex mode. This has been corrected.

Preventing JAM9300 with high

speed color machine

JAM9300: DP CIS sensor non

arrival jam

JAM9300 may occur if color originals are scanned in 300-dpi in duplex

mode when printing color copies with high-speed color machine. This

has been corrected.

PF-770 Preventing JAM0200

JAM0200: Machine sequence error

When the paper interval is short while feeding from the PF-770, the

paper feed switch ON/OFF information may fail to be relayed to the

main unit, triggering the JAM200 error code. This has been corrected.

DF-790

DF-770

Preventing the C8130 error

C8130: DF shift release motor

error

If the user tries to remove the paper stack while the machine is

operating such as starting the JOB and come in contact with some

parts of the machine, the position control failure may be caused. As a

result, the operation failure may occur, triggering the C8130 error.

This has been corrected.

Change to Maintenance Mode Adding the Edge Reduction process setting to the maintenance mode U464

The mode to reduce the density difference at the edge of image is added to the maintenance mode U464.

[Change]

[Edge Reduction]: Edge deduction mode

ON : Enabled

OFF : Disabled Default

(Note)

- Execute the developer refresh twice before executing the edge reduction mode.

- Calibration will be normally executed after switching the edge reduction mode from OFF to ON or ON to OFF. - Light image may occur when continuous print operation is carried out using the low-density originals in low temperature/humidity environment with the mode ON setting. If this is the case, please execute the developer refresh operation two times.

Measure for Grainy Image

[Grain Mode] is added to the maintenance mode U161.

The image may become grainy with uneven toner transfer if printing the image containing much solid fill area on A4

or Letter size paper in Normal paper setting (not color-exclusive paper). The following changes have been carried

out.

*The above problem may hardly occur if printed on the paper with smooth surface.

[Change]

1) [Grainy Mode] is added to the maintenance mode U161. The following are the Mode you can select.

[MODE0] Current

[MODE1] Improve the grainy image

[MODE2] Further improvement

*When MODE 1 or 2 is set, the Plain paper setting will be automatically changed to Normal1 and the fusing control

will be adjusted.

*Applicable condition

Media type [Plain], Paper size [A4/LETTER]

Color mode

[Procedure]

1. If the grainy image occurs when using the A4/LETTER Plain paper, set the Grain Mode to MODE1 in U161.

2. If it requires further improvement, change to MODE2. (55/45/35/3050ci only)

3. The same control is applied in both MODE1 and 2 for high-speed color machines (7550ci/6550ci)

*Note*

A fusing failure may occur when using thick paper or outputting data containing many composite (solid fill) Images in

this mode. If this is the case, you may prevent this fusing issue by changing the media type to “High Quality”, which

will change the temperature setting to the original level.

New eject limit setting added to U342

Currently, when ejecting from the lower left tray without the DF installed, the number of pages ejected will set the

limit for output. No eject limit setting is made available now.

New setting item “Eject limit setting” is added to U342 to allow the user to change the setting (ON/OFF)

On・・・・・Eject limited Default (Current setting)

Off・・・・・No eject limit

** Please note that when “Off”(No eject limit) setting is selected, the paper ejection will not stop by the number

of pages ejected.

Enhancement 1

Measure for C2201error

The fuser warm-up operation may fail to be completed, displaying a

false C2201 error code. It has been modified to display the C6910

code instead.

We have changed the control to prevent a false detection.

Enhancement Change/ Modification Details

PH-7A/B/C/D

Improving the tolerance for

punch process time

When outputting the letter size paper with the TASKalfa 8000i, a punch

error may occur. We have reexamined and shortened the punch unit

movement and adjustment process time to adress the issue.

DF-790 Preventing the JAM6310 from

triggering due to the paper

stack on Tray A

JAM6310:

DF middle eject sensor stay

jam

If the paper continues to stack while the trailing edge of the paper does

not reach the side plate of finisher after ejection, the Tray A upper limit

may fail to be detected, causing the paper to stack to the paper exit

section, causing the JAM6310 to trigger. This following change has been

carried out to address the problem.

[Change]

The condition of ”Tray Full” with the paper stack of 31 sheets or more in

the staple mode has been changed so the tray full condition iwill be

detected when the state of paper stack is abnormal.

DF-790 Measure for the sort alignment

failure

During the side registration of shift guide in sort mode, the next paper

may come in contac with the Guide, causing an alignment failure to occur.

We have shortened the hold time after the width adjustment to address

this problem.

DF-790 Preventing a small bundle of

stapled paper from dropping

(The Main Tray Full detection

is added with 150 sets in

staple mode.)

It is modified so that if the same mode (size/number of sheets to be

stapled) continues to 150 sets as the maximum number of set, the Main

Tray full condition will be detected.

DF-790

PH-7A/B/C/D

Preventing thecorner edge of

paper from becoming folded

(dog-eared) due to punch hole

When the position of punch hole overlaps the edge of the paper or close

to each other, the corner edge of paper may enter the punch hole,

causing the paper to become dog-eared. A new process is added to

move punch unit to keep the paper away from the punch hole depending

on paper size, availability of punch spec. and whether in punch mode or

not.

DF-790 Measure for C8130 If you open/close the DF Cover while the Shift Guide for sorting is slightly

shifted from the hole position, a C8130 error code may trigger. This has

been corrected.

DF-790 Measure for JAM6610 The operation failure of the DF drum motor may trigger the JAM6610.

This has been corrected.

Enhancement 1

Preventing a system error

when printing after storing

a large quantities of PCL

macro data

When printing after storing PCL macro data (approximately 4,000), a

system error may trigger. This has been corrected.

Preventing an error when

executing U411 on the inch

machine

After adjusting the scanner automatically in U411 on the inch machine, an error occurs due to the error on the detected black band area. This has been corrected.

Enhancement 2

Change in U161 (New

modes added),

Preventing the

deterioration of fuser

roller

(*) User who repeats

continuous output of

approximately 1500 prints

5550ci/4550ci only

When large quantities of prints are output continuously, the

temperature of the cored bar inside the fuser roller increases. As a

result, the inside silicon rubber may become deteriorated due to the

heat and become damaged. As a preventative measure, the following

new modes are added for the high print volume user (*).

> The “Mode” item is added in U161and the following small items are

added.

Mode0 --- It is not normally used.

(This mode is used if a fuser problem occurs with continuous output in

Mode1. Please note, however, that a continuous use of Mode0 may

lead to deterioration of the fuser roller.)

Mode1 --- User in general (Default)

Mode2 --- User who repeats continuous output of approximately

1500 prints

> Mode1: Under the conditions below, the temperature control is added

every 50 prints after 500 continuous prints. (When paper

length is 356mm or more, every 25 prints after 250

continuous prints)

> Conditions No warm-up correction

Normal 2 or 3

Paper length is 216 mm or more

> Mode2: Productivity is controlled based on the press roller

temperature at the power ON and the 15-minute average

thermal energy amount. (In some cases, productivity may

decrease.)

Measure for the ghost

image

(Increasing the

effectiveness of drum

refresh operation)

When running the drum refresh operation while in quiet mode, the

heater will be turned OFF upon completion of the fuser unit warm-up

operation, and as a result the ghost image may occur. As a

preventative measure, the heater will be turned OFF after the warm-up

operation is complete for entire machine.

Measure for C2203 (Drum

motor M steady-state

error)

(Change to U100)

3550ci/3050ci only

A C2203 error may be detected due to the lack of margin for the motor

against increase of the drum torque due to the effect of corona

products. As a preventative measure, the following maintenance mode

is added.

- Add “Set AC gain” in U100 and the following small items are added.

Auto --- Automatically set based on the

Enviromental conditions (Default)

Mode1 --- When C2203 occurs.

(Multiplication value 0.95)

Mode2 --- When charge pitch lines (lateral lines) occur.

(Multiplication value 1.05)

Mode3 --- When charge pitch lines (lateral lines) occurs after

setting Mode due to occurrence of C2203.

(Multiplication value 1.00)

Measure for JAM4105

(Loop sensor non arrival

jam from cassette 5)

(With PF-770 installed)

JAM4105 may trigger while printing continuously using the PF-770.

This has been resolved.

Changing the condition for

drum refresh operation

As a measure to prevent entering the drum refresh control too often,

the condition is changed as follows.

When coming out of sleep mode, the drum refresh operation

will not be performed within 180 minutes of the time after

entering the sleep mode last time. (Except when quiet mode

is ON, it will be 120 minutes.)

Changing the T7 mode

condition

(Measure for the light

density image with a Legal

size output)

When outputting the Legal size paper, the light density mage may

occur. As a corrective measure, the paper count method for T7

control with the Legal size output is changed to double-count.

(This change will also apply to A5R/A6R size.)

Measure for the stain on

the rear side of coated

paper

Secondary transfer roller cleaning operation is changed as a

preventative measure for the stain on the rear side of coated paper

when printing in half-speed or ¾-speed mode.

When using the media type that is coated paper and more

than Heavy1, the positive bias application time is increased

to 4 rotations of secondary transfer roller during the Roller

cleaning operation that is performed at the beginning of print

operation.

Measure for the grainy

image

(Only available for Custom

6 or 7 setting)

Effective only in color mode

Graininess may appear on the initial print images (several prints) due

to excessive heat supply. As a preventative measure, modifications

have been carried out as follows.

Preventing the Belt temperature overshoot at the start of

printing.

Fuser control temperature adjustment at the start of printing.

These will be enabled when Normal 2 or Normal 3 is selected for the

`media type setting Custom 6 or Custom 7 respectively.

Measure for CF349 when

using the Hypas

application

When logging in with the Hypas application, a CF349 error may

trigger. This has been corrected.

DF-790 Preventing the staple from

coming off when stapled at

one point

When a few pages are stapled of A4R/Letter R paper at one point,

the paper deflection may increase with the movement of

registration cursors. As a result, the edge of the paper may come

in contact with the part in the machine, causing the staple to come

off or a paper jam to occur. This has been corrected.

DF-790 Preventing the paper

deflection mark

Deflection mark may appear at the trailing edge of paper under the

following conditions. This has been corrected.

- Paper exit onto Tray A

- Punch mode on

- 2 or more pages

DF-770 Measure to prevent a C8160

error from triggering when

the DF Cover is open after

the power is ON

The C8160 error may be detected if you open the DF Cover at a

certain timing after turning the power ON. This has been corrected.

PH-7A/B/

C/D

Measure for a C8210 error

or a punch failure

Due to the punch operation during continuous output, the punch

motor temperature may increase and the overrun amount of pulse

plate may become excessive, preventing the normal reverse

rotation. As a result, a C8210 error or a punch failure may occur.

This has been corrected.

PF-740

PF-730

PF-780

Eliminating the conveying

sensor vibration between

pages

The Sensor vibrates during paper transport between pages. This

has been addressed.
