Your Thoughts

Think about it:

As we draw close, God’s will becomes ours and our will becomes His will.

Think About it:

Ruth’s reputation was extremely important

to Boaz.

God’s Will for Your Life Before we continue studying what God’s Word says regarding marriage, we must take into account the importance of God’s will in this. God has a specific will for your life. Read Jeremiah 29:11. God has an expected end for your life. What comes to mind when you think about God’s will? Many times we think of God’s will as some big future event in our lives. We search for this will waiting for it to pop up on a big billboard laying out some big plan for our lives. This is not what God’s will is about. God’s will is in the present. God’s will is what He has called you to do today and this week. For many of you, school is God’s will for your life. For some your place of work is God’s will.

God’s will is always unfolding. As we go along each and every day of our lives, He will guide us revealing more of what His will is. You may not know what you are suppose to do with your life, but you should and can know what God’s will is for your life now.

How can we know God’s will? This is a question I have heard asked many times. Read Romans 12:2 again. The Bible says we can prove what God’s will is. Prove means to try, discern, or to put on trial. You can know God’s will for your life! This happens by renewing our minds. This means to renovate or to make new. Knowing God’s will happens through disciplined study of God’s word, disciplined prayer and meditation. Knowing God’s will means we have to surrender our will to His will. Jesus said, “Not my will, but thine be done” in Luke 22:42. As we draw close with God and have his heart, we can easily discern His will for our lives.

“Sleeping in the Will of God” Lesson 3

Ruth catches Boaz’s eye and he invites her to dinner. Ruth’s reputation around town was known by Boaz. He takes extra special care of her compared to the others. Read Ruth 3:1-11. Boaz is at work on an ordinary day fulfilling God’s will for His life at that moment. After a hard days work, Boaz falls asleep on the barn floor. Ruth follows her godly counsel and goes to meet Boaz there. While Boaz was sleeping, God brought Ruth to him. Both were following God’s will for that moment and God brought them together for marriage. Notice what the Bible says about Ruth, “all the city of my people doth know that thou art a virtuous woman” What is your reputation in town?

Your Thoughts

Let us take our thinking about God’s will and apply it to marriage. First, let us look at Adam and Eve in Genesis 2:18-24. What is Adam doing in verse 19-20? He is fulfilling God’s will for His life. This is just an ordinary day in Adam’s life where he is working at what God has given him to do. Notice that God caused the deep sleep, God made that perfect mate, and God brought Eve to Adam. It was God that brought Adam and Eve together all while Adam was doing God’s will on a daily basis. Next, let us look at how Boaz and Ruth came to each other. Read Ruth 2:1-16. Notice the little word “hap” in verse three. This means fate or without any human planning. God guided Ruth to Boaz’s field out of the all the fields. Ruth was following God’s will on an ordinary day to pick up some food to eat.
