    Indicative contentThis module provides students with the opportunity to apply core knowledge into reallife situations in a safe and supported way. The following topics will be covered duringthe module:

    Practical work based placement

    Introduction to the 3 sectors: Public, Private and Voluntary.

    Identifying and arranging placements.

    Contextualisation of core modules

    Frameworks of reflection and self-analysis in the context of placement self-evaluation.

    Your workplace placement organisational values, beliefs and infrastructure

    The impact of your own values and beliefs in practice

    Workplace dynamics/structures policies and procedures

    Developing achievable action plans

    Intended Learning Outcomes:

    1. Examine the core purpose, philosophy and values of your placement area anddiscuss how it contributes to society.

    2. Discuss the core skills and knowledge required by your placement area andreflect upon how you have developed these in practice.

    3. Reflect upon your learning experience and identify areas for development andpersonal strengths which will form the basis of a clear action plan for year two.

    4. Demonstrate in practice acquired skills and attitudes to the required level ofperformance.

    Learning and Teaching methods

    You will be introduced gradually to practice in order to develop confidence andself-awareness within a safe and structured safe environment.

    Placements can be field specific, for those of you who know what area you wishto focus on, or they can be in a variety of different areas providing exposure to avariety of learning opportunities to support your personal development.

    Second and third year students will mentor you throughout the module and offersupport and advice in relation to identifying placements and tips on how tosurvive your first placement.

    You will meet with a variety of employers at the beginning of the module. Theywill introduce you to their work area and discuss a variety of placement

    opportunities. Clear contact points will be identified and spaced out throughout the year, with

    supervision support in practice provided by your personal tutor.

    You will have regular tutorials throughout the module. These will be with themodule team or field tutor and your own personal tutor. These tutorials will bedelivered in a way that suits you and can be via Skype; email or face to face.

    Moodle activities will provide you with learning activities, forums and directedstudy.

    You will have face to face lectures which will explore key concepts that underpinthe module.

    You will attend workshops where you will discuss and share your placementexperiences and explore how the concepts you are discovering in your level 4modules are being applied in practice.

    You will have directed study and activities which are supported by a workbasedlearning workbook which can be completed online or paper based.

    Action Learning Sets will provide you with structured activities, peer support andfeedback.

    Breakdown of study time:The Key Information Set (KIS) requires you to publish broad information in relation to how students willspend their time when studying a course. In relation to th is moduleplease indicate the proportion oftime (as a percentage of total study time) that students will spend in:

    Assessment and Feedback:

    Summative assessment:

    1. A reflective structured learning journal. (100% of module mark.)

    Part 1:Examine the contribution the placement area makes to society andexplore how this impacts on your own values and ways of working. Reflect uponhow your own values may impact on the way that you work within the area.

    (Learning outcome 1. Approximately 400 words. Provides 20% of your totalmark).

    Part 2: Reflect upon the fundamental skills and knowledge you have developedwithin your placement.

    (Learning outcome 2. Approximately 500 words. Provides 40% of your totalmark).

    Part 3:Reflect upon your learning journey and develop a realistic action plan foryear 2. The action plan should include actions which are specific, measurable,achievable, realistic and have clear timescales.

    Formative assessment:

    1. Formative reflective journal: Submitted on Moodle. The journal is maintainedthroughout placement and feedback will be submitted regularly by the moduletutor. It will outline key learning points and will directly contribute to thesummative learning journal.

    2. A midway report from the placement supervisor which provides formativefeedback and an agreed action plan for the remainder of the placement. TheFormative midway action plan is submitted via Moodle and feedback and supportwill be given accordingly.

    3. Tutorials.

    4. Structured peer support and feedback through action learning sets.

    5. Workshop and group work activities.

    Feedback:

    Formative feedback will take place after Moodle Journal entries have beensubmitted. (see point 1 above)

    Midway formative placement feedback. (See point 2 above)

    Tutors will meet with you after during your placement and will provide you withsupport, advice and feedback.

    Feedback will be given during workplace tutor visits.

    General feedback is delivered by peers and tutors during group work, tutorialsand workshops.

    Written feedback for the summative assessment will be provided in accordancewith standard university regulations and given to you within 20 working days. Thiswill inform your approach to your second year.

    This module provides the basis for your second year, specifically Level 4 and 5

    placement modules.

    Your experiences in this module will support you in the level 5 Leadership in LifeModule, where you will be expected to mentor a first year and support them inembarking on their first practice placements.

    The knowledge and skills examined in:
