Reading

• Revelation 21:1-5 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away. And he who was seated on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new." Also he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true." And he said to me, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment. The one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will be his God and he will be my son. But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulphur, which is the second death."

After the Fall

1. God to restore what was lost through Sin• God’s rule in the world.• Man perfected, free from sin.• God and man in harmony and fellowship.• Paradise in creation.

1. Cain• Became the first murderer.• Family strife as a result of sin.• Point of interest: built the first city - cities are centres of sin.

2. Lamech• First recorded polygamist - distortion of natural affections demonstrated.

3. The Sons of God• Fallen angels see the daughters of men and take wives as they choose.• The human race is being corrupted.• Satan’s plan is to overthrow God’s purposes through the seed of the woman.

4. The Flood• God judges sin on the earth

5. Babel• Not long after the flood - sin is still in control.• Defiance of God’s order to populate the whole earth.• Desire to make a great name for themselves; human pride.

6. The Common Thread• Since the fall, mankind is lost in sin.

Scriptures

Psalm 14:1-3 The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds, there is none who does good. The Lord looks down from heaven on the children of man, to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God. They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one.

Ecclesiastes 7:20 Surely there is not a righteous man on earth who does good and never sins.

The Gospels "We do not want this man to reign over us." (Luke 19:14) The Redeemer is cast out; man will not submit to God

Romans 3:23 ...for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God

Looking Ahead...

Genesis 3:15 I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.

Ephesians 1:9-11 ...making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to reunite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth. In him we have obtained an inher- itance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory.

Revelation 20:11-15 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
