Global harmonised system (ghs)

Global harmonised system (ghs) of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals

Global harmonized system (ghs)

• Global harmonized system is a U.N. body Recognized as the internationally harmonized approach to classification and labelling of chemicals -Information about the status of implementation of the GHS is available at: http://www.unece.org/trans/danger/publi/ghs/implementation_e.html

Global harmonized system

GHS implementation of Transport of dangerous goods GHS is implemented in transport of dangerous goods sector through the UN Model Regulations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods and its related legal instruments: – IMDG code(maritime transport) – ICAO Technical Instructions ( air transport) – ADR (road transport) ? – RID (rail transport) – AD N (inland waterways transport) In the European Union: EU: Directive 2008/68/EC on inland transport of dangerous goods Question to application of ADR on HAZARDOUS WASTE as PCBs in Albania

Transport of dangerous goods – PCBs waste

The classes of dangerous goods according to ADR are the following: Class 1 Explosive substances and articles Class 2 Gases Class 3 Flammable liquids Class 4.1 Flammable solids, self-reactive substances and solid desensitized explosives Class 4.2 Substances liable to spontaneous combustion Class 4.3 Substances which, in contact with water, emit flammable gases Class 5.1 Oxidizing substances Class 5.2 Organic peroxides Class 6.1 Toxic substances Class 6.2 Infectious substances Class 7 Radioactive material Class 8 Corrosive substances Class 9 Miscellaneous dangerous substances and articles Each entry in the different classes has been assigned a UN number.

GHS implementation on Transport of PCBs waste for combined transport as road and sea GHS of PCBs we should follow the requirements of: – IMDG code(maritime transport) & – ADR (road transport) collecting the -technical names -proper packing -proper labeling -other related to transport information's

Transport of dangerous goods – PCBs waste

ADR & IMDG code guidance

1. Classify dangerous goods and identify Proper Shipping

Names of dangerous goods;

2. Pack dangerous goods;

3. Mark, label or placard dangerous goods;

4. Load/unload Cargo Transport Units;

5. Prepare transport documents for dangerous goods;

6. Prepare dangerous goods loading/stowage plans;

7 Request to a shipping company to accept for carrying the

hazardous cargo

Goal to collect required standard from ADR & IMDG code

• Liquid PCB’s in UN approved drums [UN 1A 1]

• Solid (small parts) PCB’s in UN approved drums [UN 1A 2]

• Transformers and bigger appliances in a tide metallic tray (high 80cm and filled with inert absorbent capable to absorb all liquid phase)
