The purpose of this workshop was to learn about Nanotechnology and how it is applied to Science fields, to know about the Physics involved in it and to learn about the electron microscope and how to use it. Nanotechnology is the study of small particles (10 -9 m), in a molecular view, that can be really useful to Science fields such as Chemistry, Physics and Biology. The nano scale ranges from 1-100nm, but right now the one that is being used the most is a subdivision called the meso scale which goes from 5-50nm. Nanotechnology focuses on atoms that are not part of the surface and gives priorities to the ones located on the very inside. As part of the workshop, we put a sample of Aluminum in a closed machine that was going to provide Nitrogen and then examined it via the electron microscope. Some of the advantages of Nanotechnology are that it gives more reactivity to an element and major sensitivity. Also, it is possible to manipulate nano particles in a way that the starting material can be converted to a different one. Other application of nanotechnology relies in the study of Genetics, specifically in reading the codification of DNA nitrogenous bases. Nanotech is very important in the manufacture of new materials which includes food and the memory of macro computers used on research labs. Word count 250 200-250 words (no more than 250)

The workshop offered by Dr. Wilfredo Otaño was about Nanotechnology and electron microscopy. The

purpose of this workshop was to learn about Nanotechnology and how it is applied to Science fields, to know

about the Physics involved in it and to learn about the electron microscope and how to use it. Nanotechnology

is the study of small particles (10-9m), in a molecular view, that can be really useful to Science fields such as

Chemistry, Physics and Biology. The nano scale ranges from 1-100nm, but right now the one that is being used

the most is a subdivision called the meso scale which goes from 5-50nm. Nanotechnology focuses on atoms

that are not part of the surface and gives priorities to the ones located on the very inside.

As part of the workshop, we put a sample of Aluminum in a closed machine that was going to provide

Nitrogen and then examined it via the electron microscope. Some of the advantages of Nanotechnology are

that it gives more reactivity to an element and major sensitivity. Also, it is possible to manipulate nano particles

in a way that the starting material can be converted to a different one. Other application of nanotechnology

relies in the study of Genetics, specifically in reading the codification of DNA nitrogenous bases. Nanotech is

very important in the manufacture of new materials which includes food and the memory of macro computers

used on research labs.
