Page 2: 2nd Chance Christian Newsletter2ndccn.com/2ndccnchooseyourgodgodx1.pdf · therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. 1 Corinthians 7:23 (KJV) Ye are

lusts of your father ye will do.He was a murderer from thebeginning, and abode not in thetruth, because there is no truthin him. When he speaketh a lie,he speaketh of his own: for he isa liar, and the father of it.

Those of you that have de-cided to accept Jesus Christ asyour personal Lord and Sav-iour: 1 Corinthians 6:20 (KJV)For ye are bought with a price:therefore glorify God in yourbody, and in your spirit, whichare God's.

1 Corinthians 7:23 (KJV) Yeare bought with a price; be notye the servants of men.

In the Old Testament we aregiven an example of the choicewe have to make. Joshua 24:15(KJV) And if it seem evil untoyou to serve the LORD, chooseyou this day whom ye will

serve; whether the gods whichyour fathers served that wereon the other side of the flood, orthe gods of the Amorites, inwhose land ye dwell: but as forme and my house, we will servethe LORD.

Many of you have said thatyou want to serve the Lord, but have you established it inyour heart? The Lord knowsour thoughts: Genesis 6:5(KJV) And GOD saw that thewickedness of man was great inthe earth, and that every imag-ination of the thoughts of hisheart was only evil continually. We cannot keep our inner mostsecret thoughts from the Lord.Luke 12:2-3 (KJV) For there isnothing covered, that shall notbe revealed; neither hid, thatshall not be known. Thereforewhatsoever ye have spoken indarkness shall be heard in the

light; and that which ye havespoken in the ear in closetsshall be proclaimed upon thehousetops.

Ecclesiastes 12:14 (KJV) ForGod shall bring every work intojudgment, with every secretthing, whether it be good, orwhether it be evil.

The Bible makes it clear thatif you make a vow to the Lordyou had better keep it. Num-bers 30:2 (KJV) If a man vowa vow unto the LORD, or swearan oath to bind his soul with abond; he shall not break hisword, he shall do according toall that proceedeth out of hismouth.

If any of you have madepromises to the Lord now or inthe past and have not keptthem or don’t plan on keepingthem, you would be better off

reconsidering that thought.

Ecclesiastes 5:4 (KJV) Whenthou vowest a vow unto God,defer not to pay it; for he hathno pleasure in fools: pay thatwhich thou hast vowed.

A simple, common vow in jailis, O-Lord if you get me out ofthis I will start doing right. Iwill start going to church andlearning about you. I’ll do

what ever you ask.

Deuteronomy 23:21 (KJV)When thou shalt vow a vowunto the LORD thy God, thoushalt not slack to pay it: for theLORD thy God will surely re-quire it of thee; and it would besin in thee.

Now, I’m going to tell youabout some of the gods thatwere in my life in the past. I’m

sure a lot of you can relatewith what I’m going to say.

First I want to establish howwe fall into temptation. 1 John2:16 (KJV) For all that is inthe world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and thepride of life, is not of the Fa-ther, but is of the world.

These are the three areas thatEve fell into: Genesis 3:6

(KJV) And when the womansaw that the tree was good forfood, (Lust of the flesh) andthat it was pleasant to the eyes,(Lust of the eyes) and a tree tobe desired to make one wise,(Pride of life) she took of thefruit thereof, and did eat, andgave also unto her husband

with her; and he did eat.

These are the same areas thatChrist was tempted in: Mat-thew 4:3-11 (KJV) And whenthe tempter came to him, hesaid, If thou be the Son of God,command that these stones bemade bread (1st temptation,Lust of the flesh). But he an-

swered and said, It is written,Man shall not live by breadalone, but by every word thatproceedeth out of the mouth ofGod. Then the devil taketh himup into the holy city, andsetteth him on a pinnacle of thetemple, And saith unto him, Ifthou be the Son of God, cast

thyself down: for it is written, Heshall give his angels charge con-cerning thee: and in their handsthey shall bear thee up, lest atany time thou dash thy footagainst a stone (2nd temptation, pride of life). Jesus said untohim, It is written again, Thoushalt not tempt the Lord thy God.Again, the devil taketh him upinto an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the king-

doms of the world, and the gloryof them; And saith unto him, Allthese things will I give thee, ifthou wilt fall down and worshipme (3rd temptation, lust of theeyes). Then saith Jesus unto him,Get thee hence, Satan: for it iswritten, Thou shalt worship theLord thy God, and him only shaltthou serve. Then the devil leavethhim, and, behold, angels cameand ministered unto him.

Some of you are in your ownpersonal wilderness right nowand dealing with these same ar-eas of temptation. You don’thave to be locked up in jail toexperience that. I know a lot ofpeople that are in their own spir-itual prison that are walkingaround free from the steel andconcrete.

To continue the story about

loved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always aboundingin the work of the Lord, foras-much as ye know that your la-bour is not in vain in the Lord.

We will not see the seconddeath if we choose the God witha capitol G. Revelation 20:6(KJV) Blessed and holy is hethat hath part in the first resur-

rection: on such the seconddeath hath no power, but theyshall be priests of God and ofChrist, and shall reign with hima thousand years. (which isChrist). Colossians 2:9 (KJV)For in him dwelleth all the ful-ness of the Godhead bodily.

1 Timothy 3:16 (KJV) Andwithout controversy great is the

mystery of godliness: God wasmanifest in the flesh, justified inthe Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, be-lieved on in the world, receivedup into glory.

John 1:1 (KJV) In the begin-ning was the Word, and theWord was with God, and theWord was God.

Christ, He overcame temptationand thus defeated Satan in life.Hebrews 4:15 (KJV) For wehave not an high priest whichcannot be touched with the feel-ing of our infirmities; but was inall points tempted like as we are,yet without sin.

Jesus Christ overcame theworld and the lust in the worldwhen He over came temptationin the wilderness. This makesthe next verse true. 1 John 4:4(KJV) Ye are of God, little chil-dren, and have overcome them:because greater is he that is inyou, than he that is in the world. If you’ve accepted Jesus Christas your personal Lord and Sav-iour you have access to thatsame power. What are you doingwith it?

Jesus Christ also defeated Satanin death when God the Fatherraised Him from the dead. Ro-

mans 6:9 (KJV) Knowing thatChrist being raised from the deaddieth no more; death hath nomore dominion over him.

When we accept Christ’spayment for sin: in the eyesof God we were crucified onthe cross with Christ.

When we accept Christ’sdeath we also accept his res-urrection from the dead.

The faith we have in Christbeing raised from the deadbrings with it the promise ofeternal life for the believer.Romans 6:8 (KJV) Now ifwe be dead with Christ, webelieve that we shall also livewith him:

This is what separates Christi-anity from all the various reli-gions in the world. Jesus Christis the only one who was raised

from the dead and stayed thatway. That is why the tomb wasempty. Luke 24:3-5 (KJV) Andthey entered in, and found notthe body of the Lord Jesus. Andit came to pass, as they weremuch perplexed thereabout, be-hold, two men stood by them inshining garments: And as theywere afraid, and bowed downtheir faces to the earth, they saidunto them, Why seek ye the liv-ing among the dead?

God is not the God of the dead.Luke 20:38 (KJV) For he is nota God of the dead, but of the liv-ing: for all live unto him.

1 Corinthians 15:55-58 (KJV)O death, where is thy sting? Ograve, where is thy victory? Thesting of death is sin; and thestrength of sin is the law. Butthanks be to God, which givethus the victory through our LordJesus Christ. Therefore, my be-

John 1:14 (KJV) And the Wordwas made flesh, and dweltamong us, (and we beheld hisglory, the glory as of the onlybegotten of the Father,) full ofgrace and truth.

John 14:6 (KJV) Jesus saithunto him, I am the way, thetruth, and the life: no mancometh unto the Father, but byme.

We have a different set of prom-ises if we choose the god with asmall g. Revelation 19:20 (KJV)And the beast was taken, andwith him the false prophet thatwrought miracles before him, with which he deceived themthat had received the mark ofthe beast, and them that wor-shipped his image. These bothwere cast alive into a lake of fireburning with brimstone.

Revelation 20:10 (KJV) Andthe devil that deceived them wascast into the lake of fire andbrimstone, where the beast andthe false prophet are, and shallbe tormented day and night forever and ever.

Revelation 20:14 (KJV) Anddeath and hell were cast into thelake of fire. This is the seconddeath.

Revelation 21:8 (KJV) But thefearful, and unbelieving, and theabominable, and murderers, andwhoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shallhave their part in the lake whichburneth with fire and brimstone:which is the second death.

Now, let me tell you about thedifferent gods in my past. Her-oin was my god for many years.I never looked at it that way

but based on the Bible, I wor-shiped my drugs. I worshipedthem enough that I almost lostmy soul for them. I followeddrugs no matter where theytook me. I risked my freedomand my health to the point thatI should have died on morethan one occasion. I’ve beenshot at four times; twice by thepolice; once by the Military Po-lice, and once by the civilianpolice.

Ive robbed my mom on morethan one occasion. I ended up ina Federal Prison, in local jailson more than 10 occasions, homeless, rehabs, psychiatricwards and ended up in bed withmore women that I didn't knowthan I would have if I was inmy right mind. I have hepatitisC and several other health prob-lems that can be attributed to

my god.

You see, my god never prom-ised me anything like what Goddoes. There was no promise ofeternal life or a relationship withGod the Father, only death, both physical and spiritual. Ro-mans 6:20-23 (KJV) For whenye were the servants of sin, yewere free from righteousness. What fruit had ye then in thosethings whereof ye are now

ashamed? for the end of thosethings is death. But now beingmade free from sin, and becomeservants to God, ye have yourfruit unto holiness, and the endeverlasting life. For the wages ofsin is death; but the gift of God iseternal life through Jesus Christour Lord.

What god are you serving? Sex,drugs, money? Matthew 6:24(KJV) No man can serve two

masters: for either he will hatethe one, and love the other; orelse he will hold to the one, anddespise the other. Ye cannot serveGod and mammon.

Who is the God / god of yourworld? Are you serving Satan asI was? Do you even know thespiritual source of your God /god? Do you care? The Biblesays: Romans 14:11-12 (KJV)For it is written, As I live, saith

the Lord, every knee shall bow tome, and every tongue shall con-fess to God. So then every one ofus shall give account of himself toGod.

How long do you think you cantempt God? Luke 4:12 (KJV)

And Jesus answering said untohim, It is said, Thou shalt nottempt the Lord thy God.

Once you die, it’s too late.

Psalms 14:1 (KJV) The fool hathsaid in his heart, There is no

God. They are corrupt, they havedone abominable works, there isnone that doeth good.

What God/god are youserving?
