FOREWORDWith a growing number of participants, technical offers, networking opportunities, and an extensive exhibition showcasing who’s who in the public transport industry, the MENA Trans-port Congress and Exhibition is the premiere and most attended public transport event in the Region.

The 2018 theme of the MENA Transport Congress & Exhibition, “pioneering for CUSTOMER happiness”, recognizes the customer as the core of public transport service and incorporates happiness and not only satisfaction. Happier customers benefit from effective public transport services that are safe, smart, convenient, reliable, environmentally friendly, and integrated.

With renewed growth, increased pressures on transport infrastructure, increased awareness on climate change, emergence of exciting technologies, and energized youth, the region has embarked on an impressive agenda for public transport. More than $100 billion of public trans-port projects are under construction in the region, notwithstanding other major initiatives under development. From autonomous technologies to transport network services and intro-duction of public transport services in new markets, so much is taking place in MENA. But perhaps where the region stands out most is how to best address social and cultural barriers to using public transport and build a culture of public transport among non-captive segments.

We welcome you to join us and be part of the paradigm shift, thereby shaping the future of the MENA region.

The International Association of Public Transport (UITP) is a passionate about promoting sustainable urban mobility and is the only worldwide network to bring together all public transport stakeholders and all sustainable transport modes. We have 1,400 member companies giving access to 16,000 contacts from 96 countries. Our members are public transport authorities and operators, decision-makers, research institutes and the public transport supply and service industry.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) seeks to develop and manage integrated & sustainable roads & transit systems to bring them to world-class standards. It is also focused on delivering pioneering services to beneficiaries with a view to making them happy and supporting the vision of Dubai. The RTA endeavours to achieve these objectives through shaping the future, developing policies & legislations, keeping pace with technology & innovations, and adopting top global practices & standards.

Over the past decade, the public transport sector in Dubai has witnessed an upswing involving the construction of the Dubai metro and Tram projects and overhauling public transport with state-of-the-art buses featuring the best international specifications. It has also revamped the marine transit systems through the deployment of an array of new transit modes comprising the water bus, water taxi and ferry.

Public transit systems are the backbone of people’s mobility in Dubai and the preferred mobility option of a large chunk of Dubai’s residents & visitors. The share of public transport (metro, tram, buses and marine transport) in the people's mobility has soared from 6% in 2006 to 16% in 2016. The RTA is seeking to push this rate to as much as 20% by 2020, and 30% by 2030.
