Assignment Brief:
Aims:To create a 20 second animation using drawings on paper
To develop skills in anticipating the timing of an animation andworking to a set soundtrack
To learn how to use an exposure sheet for timing
Brief:Each student will be supplied with a soundtrack of 20 seconds duration. Thesoundtrack will contain a series of discrete noises, with no speech.Students must come up with a visual concept for an animation to match the
given soundtrack. The concept may be narrative based or abstract.Students may NOT use any other soundtrack than the one supplied. The frame rate is to be 25fps (television)
Step 1. Students must create an exposure sheet showing the noises on theirsoundtrack, and the proposed animated movement to match it, identifyingkeyframes. This must be submitted for approval before beginning to animate.
Step 2. Upon approval of the exposure sheet, students are to draw the requireddrawings for the animation ON PAPER (NOT on the computer!), either using an
animation disc with pegs, or a flipbook pad.Use your exposure sheet as a guide for the timing of the drawings. Dont forgetregistration marks for the animation drawings.
At this stage, testing the timing on the computer is NOT PERMITTED!(Although you probably would as a professional animator)
Step 3. Upon completion of ALL drawings required, scan the drawings and
assemble them in order using Flash.Add the original soundtrack. This is where we see if they match!
