Officer Training Scheduled
4-H club officers are an important part of club meetings. Officers help
establish an agenda, follow parliamentary procedure, and inject fun into
the meetings. Officer training will be held on Saturday, December 6
from 9 – 11 a.m. at the Adel Library, 303 S. 10th Street, Adel. All club
officers and leaders are encouraged to attend. You will learn and
practice the skills of your office and how to work better as an officer
team in your club.

to the clubs who organized games for awards day and the 4-H’ers
who helped present awards. Thank you also goes to everyone who
brought the delicious food for the potluck supper. There was a
wonderful selection. Your efforts helped to make Awards Day en-
joyable for everyone.

Scholarship
The Dallas County Soil and
Water Conservation District will
be awarding two $750 scholar-
ships in 2009. These scholar-
ships will be presented to Dallas
County high school seniors to be
used for their first year of educa-
tion on the college level while
pursuing programs of study in
any field of agriculture or natural
resources.
The top applicant from Dallas
County will be sent to the Con-
servation Districts of Iowa's re-
gional and state competitions
with the opportunity to receive
additional awards at the regional
level of $200 and state awards of
$1500, $1000, and $800.

Practice Begins January!
The livestock judging team will
begin practicing for the upcom-
ing season January 4, 2 p.m. at
Emily Brewer’s. Practice and
contest schedules will be given
out at this time. If you are in-
terested in joining the livestock
judging team, please call Emily

4-H Show Calf Workshop Crossroads Ag and Purina are
offering a workshop discussing
animal nutrition. There will be
door prizes and refreshments.

State & Area Awards
If you are in grades 9 -12, there
are many opportunities available
to you for project awards or to
represent Iowa in upcoming
conferences on the state or
national level. These include
National 4-H Conference, State
4-H Congress, State 4-H
Council, Iowa Youth Tech Team
and State 4-H Project awards.
If you would like more informa-
tion or to apply, call Aleta at
993-4281. The area and state
selection process involves com-
pleting an application form,
gathering and putting together
up to five pages of written sup-
port or a 10 minute audio or
videotape and an interview at the
area and state level. The appli-
cation deadline is February,
2009, with interviews March 1.
State Volunteer Retreat
Growing Green is the theme for
the 2009 State Volunteer Retreat
scheduled for February 6 and 7,
at the DMACC facility in
Ankeny.
A variety of workshops will
interest new or experienced
volunteers. The registration cost
is $25 and includes lunch and
breaks.

Market Beef Weigh-in
Any 4-H’er planning to show mar-
ket beef at the 2009 Dallas County
Fair, Iowa State Fair or AkSarBen
MUST have their entries weighed,
tagged and identified on the proper
ID form. The Dallas County
weigh-in is scheduled, December
30 from 12:30—3 p.m. at the
Dallas County Fairgrounds. The
snow date is January 3, 12:30 – 3
pm. Each 4-H’er may weigh up to
six steers or market heifers plus
junior cattle feeder pens.
Please have the breed name, birth
date, sire, and sire registration
number with you when the entry is
registered.

State Fair $ 5.00
AkSarBen $ 5.00
State Fair & AkSarBen $10.00
If you can’t attend the Dallas
County weigh-in, let us know by
December 8. We will help you
make arrangements to get Dallas
County tags to the weigh in site of
your choice.
To show at the Iowa State Fair you
must be in 5 - 12 grade.

Are you a 4-H’er who would like
to attend the intermediate trip in
June? Would you like to attend
the photography camp at the 4-H
camp in Madrid this summer?
Would your club like to repair or
repaint a landmark in your
community?
The Dallas County 4-H Founda-
tion will accept grant requests for
funds to help 4-H’ers participate
in activities beyond the county
level. They are also interested in
helping fund community service
projects that clubs plan and carry
out.
Applications are due on February
8, 2009 to the Extension Office.
