For Bethany’s senior project she had to choose an activity that would benefit a local non-profit. Following her recent experience with her grandmother receiving hospice care in Colorado, she chose Madrone. She, with some help, baked hundreds and hundreds of cake-pops to be sold with all of the proceeds being donated to Madrone Hospice. We so greatly appreciate her creativity, perseverance and generosity! It takes a special gal to make that many cake pops! 27th Annual Art Auction March 15th, 2013 Miner’s Inn Convention Center Doors open at 5 pm Join us for an exciting evening of great food, wonderful artwork and lively company! Thank you to Bethany Belknap for choosing Madrone Hospice for your Senior Project Focus!

Notes from Terrie Berentsen, Executive Director In my experience the American way of life is centered around people making choices.

Many of these choices are made as a reflection of how we would like our society to

look. Most of you have chosen to support Madrone Hospice and the unique services

that are so critical for those coping with end of life issues.

Hospice is a program that most folks represents what they want “when the time comes.”

However, in my experience, although the majority of Americans would prefer to die at

home, many are never referred to hospice or are referred when they are near death, thus

neither the patient or family can fully benefit from our services. Comprehensive infor-

mation is so very important for persons who are preparing for end of life and the

choices/decisions which need to be made. Hospice provides special caring support dur-

ing one of the most challenging and vulnerable times of our lives.

The Madrone Hospice newsletter is just one way for us to share information with people who care about hos-

pice and the benefits we can bring to those facing the final phase of life. Help spread the word.

Encourage family and friends to clearly share their wishes regarding end of life care before they are ill.

Encourage family and friends to complete their Advanced Directive. Blank Advance Directives are

available at from Madrone Hospice.

Encourage family and friends to talk to their physician regarding their end of life wishes.

And remember; if you or anyone you know has a need for hospice information or referral, please have

them talk with their physician and/or call Madrone Hospice at 530-842-3160. We are here to help.

Reach out to someone who has experienced hospice services and share your hospice story with others.

April is Volunteer Appreciation Month

We strive to remind our volunteers how important they are each day, however, during the month of April we try a little harder. We will be hosting our annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon, giving tokens and certificates of appreciation to each volunteer. If you appreciate a volunteer in your life, please let them know how greatly appreciated and important their efforts are! Volunteers are the Heart of Hospice!
