27 September 2019 Issue 1 www.smithfieldathletics.com.au Welcome to the 2019/2020 Season The committee would like to welcome back our athletes from last season. It is great to have you back. To our new athletes: Welcome and we hope you enjoy your season at Smithfield Athletics. We currently have approximately 270 athletes registered so far for the season. As always there are general housekeeping issues to discuss: Athletes must have a parent/caregiver in attendance for the duration of the night. Under no circumstances are the athletes to be left at the ground without a parent. If a parent is volunteering to go onto the field to help they firstly must sign on under their respective Age Group and position and put on a yellow vest. Age managers will wear a red vest. No prams or strollers are allowed on the field. Young children not doing athletics must remain with the parent at all times. At all times during the night if you are crossing the field or on the field helping please watch the track for sprint races and long distance races and the areas around the discus, shot put, high jumps and long jump pits to avoid clashes and injuries. All athletes wearing spikes must only put them on before their event starts and take them off immediately after the event finishes. They are not allowed to walk on or off the field with their spikes on. Athlete's that misbehave or are disruptive to the age groups will not be tolerated. Age managers and parent helpers will be advised to send the misbehaving athlete to a committee member where they could possibly miss an event. If the disruption is too great they will be taken from the field and their parents will be called. A reminder to all our parents and athletes that our club runs on parent help. Without this help, Friday nights are not possible. So please if you can lend a hand as an Age manager, Age Recorder, Parent Helper within the group or maybe even a time keeper or starter; It is not hard to do and the committee can teach you what to do. Thanks for your patience in the last couple of weeks with the running of the events. They may continue to take a little longer in the next few weeks as the committee evaluates if there are any event clashes and how many children are in each age group. If there are any issues, you have any ideas or improvements throughout the season, please see one of the committee member whose names are below; they will be wearing a red committee shirt. Our Instagram, Facebook and Website get regularly updated and have just about everything you need to keep up to date with all that’s going on. Please take some time to look at them. In case of wet weather or hot conditions facebook and Instagram will be our primary source of notifications. TRAINING

Club training has started for the season every Wednesday from 5:00pm till about 6:00pm for Smithfield Athletes only This is not compulsory but if you are interested in improving in your events this is worthwhile to come down to. Please talk to Matt and Kim, our training coordinators for more information. Training will run during the October school holidays. For any last minute changes or cancellations please look at our Facebook and Instagram pages. Bring a towel, water and a jumper.

CANTEEN

The canteen is one of our major sources of revenue that helps purchase new equipment and enables the club to put on our presentation day so please come and support it by buying something of a Friday night.

Hot Food includes: Beef or chicken sausages on a roll, Meat pies, Sausage rolls, Chicken nuggets, Hot chips, Hot dogs, Cheese toasties, Ham and cheese toasties and Soup with a roll. Keep an “eye out” for specials of the week. Drinks, chips and lollies are also available to purchase.

If you are interested in buying Hot Food for your child to eat after they have completed athletics, please PRE-ORDER at the CANTEEN before the start of the night. This will help out the committee running the canteen to prepare the food and avoid disappointment. There are special forms to do this so once you arrive at the ground head to the canteen to fill one out and pay.

If you have any questions or comments about the canteen, please see Colleen D’Agostino, our Canteen Manager.

RAFFLES

We will be holding monthly raffles on a Friday night throughout the season so please support the club by buying some tickets. The money made from the raffle goes straight back into the club to club buy and maintain canteen equipment and supplies, buy and maintain equipment that the children need to use each week and also help with the clubs end of season function.

Raffle tickets are $5 for a sheet of 25 numbers or 3 sheets (75 numbers) for $10

If anyone has any donations that could be used as Raffle prizes throughout the season, please see Therese Scicluna, our Fundraising Officer. All the money raised goes to help the kids, so please generously give your support to the club.

EXTRA EVENTS and GALA DAYS

Throughout the season there is a multitude of Gala Days and Events that are run by other clubs that our Smithfield Athletes can attend. To see what events are available and the cost involved, see our noticeboard near the canteen. Only club entries will be taken for the Central West Zone Multi and Zone Championships. All other Gala Days and event registrations and payments will have to be done individually. If you have any questions about any of the Gala Days please see Jodie or Marian, our Interclub Officers.
