27 th September 2019 (4) Dear Parents and Carers, I hope your child/children have settled into their new class and are enjoying being back at school. Prime Minister The whole school have had a very exciting week, as children across years 2 - 6 presented speeches about why they wanted to be the first Eversley Prime Minister. Today the whole school heard the winning candidates’ speeches from each year group. Elyssa (Year 2) Reya (Year 3) Obi (Year 4) Zenon (Year 5) Christian (Year 6) All children delivered their speech with confidence and passion, explaining what they would do if they were appointed as Eversley Prime Minister. Each child from Years 1 – 6, then filled in their ballot paper, which were then collected and counted. I would like to announce that the Eversley Prime Minister with 230 votes is - Christian! The Deputy Prime Minister with 109 votes is - Elyssa. Zenon will be the KS2 Minister, Obi will be the KS1 Minister and Reya will be the EYFS Minister. Next week, each class will vote for cabinet members. By the end of the week we will have formed our Eversley Government. I would like to congratulate all the children who took part, as I heard some amazing speeches. It is great to know that so many children are passionate about making a difference and helping make Eversley a better school. Your child does not need to wear the PE uniform, but they must come to school in their correct school uniform. The PE kit has always been the same, apart from the fleece and no navy blue bottoms. I want to state again why this was brought in:

Children could have a maximum of 2 hours PE

Children do not need to get changed in the same room as the opposite sex

Please ensure your child has the correct uniform. If you are struggling financially, please contact the school office who will let me know. Anxiety As a school, one of our School Improvement Priorities is -

To put mental health at the heart of strategic school improvement

to support pupils and staff in line with national priorities

All staff have had some great training to support the children at Eversley manage their

feelings and reducing anxiety.

A technique that we learnt to help reduce anxiety and stress is to trace your fingers,

inhaling as you move up one finger and exhaling as you come down.

This is a great technique that you can teach your child/children to do independently

when they feel worried.

Safeguarding Please talk to your child about the poster below, which is produced by the NSPCC. Have a lovely weekend! Best wishes, Samantha Williams Headteacher

Egyptian Day 2019 Year 3 had a fantastic day learning all about the life of the Ancient Egyptians. We stepped into the heart of Ancient Egypt and experienced first hand the death of a Pharaoh, the process of mummification, and the procession of

professional mourners at an Egyptian funeral. We had the chance to get up close with some secret treasures of the tombs, and enjoyed measuring each other using a Royal Cubit and fingers. We also took part in a class quiz and have acquired so much new knowledge!

Our value of the month is rESPONSIBILITY

One of the areas the school is working hard to improve is the attendance of children at Eversley Primary School. The United Nation Convention on the rights of the child entitles them to a Right to Education (Article 28). If the attendance drops below 95%, this could potentially affect any future Ofsted judgement, as well as children missing vital learning which reduces their chances of success. Please help us to continue the upward trend by ensuring your child comes to school every day and on time.

The overall school attendance to date is 97.83%
