The ratio of two numbers is 4:5, their LCM is 60, what are the numbers?

Factors of 60 are : 2:2:3:5 Thus the two numbers are 12 and 15. (multiply 4 and 5 with 3 ).


What is the least number, which when divided by 4,5,7 give remainder of 3,4,6?

Let us take LCM, we have 140. Now let us deduct one from this (difference of 4,5,7 and 3,4,6 is one in each case).

Thus answer is 139.


12.5% of 25/8% of 2560 ?

12.5% * 25/8% *2560 = 10 answer.


300 mangoes were purchased at Re. 1 per mango and sold at Rs. 15 per dozen. What is profit in %?

Cost = 300 Sale price = 300/12 *15 = 375 Profit is 25% answer.


Numerator of a fraction is increased by 5% and denominator is decreased by 4%, the value of the fraction is 7/12. What is the original fraction?

Let us change 7 and 12. 7*100/105 12*100/96 The original fraction is (7*96)/(12*105) = 8/15 answer.


3^(3x-4) = 27^(5x-3), what is X?

Options are : 1/3, 5/12, 12/5, 3 3^(3x-4) = 3^3*(5x-3), 3X -4 = 15X -9 12X = 5 X = 5/12 answer.


3^1/2 +1-sqrt(4 +sqrt(12))?

=1.732+1-sqrt(4+3.4) =2.732 –sqrt(7.4) =0 answer.


How many permutations are possible from INSTITUTE by taking all the letters?

Price of a commodity is increased by 20% and then decreased by 20%, what is the net impact?

(A^3 – B^3) / [(A^2 +AB+B^2)(X)] gives 1, where A = 1024 and B = 256?

Solving the formulae we get X = (A-B) =1024-256 = 768 answer.


The probability of getting a Diamond or a Queen from a set of playing card is?

There are 13 diamonds. There are 4 queens There is one queen of diamond also. There are 52 cards in total. Thus answer is (13+4 – 1)/ 52 =16/52 answer.


If (x-3) is factor of 4x^2 +bx – 3, what is B?

Options: -11, -9, 11, 13

Try from options, the answer is -11 .


If | 4x-5| < 7, what is X?

X can be any value from more than -1/2 to less than 3.


In how many years will 10000 become 10609 at 3% compound interest rate?

One year’s interest is Rs. 300, two years’s interest is (300 + 300 + 9), thus in 2 years. (in compound interest, we take interest on interest, which is 9 in this case).


¼, 1/6 and 1/8 and X are in proportion, what is X?

By definition, (1/4 *X)= (1/6 *1/8) =1/4X = 1/48 X = 4/48 X = 1/12 answer.


What is the quadratic equation, whose sum of the roots is 7 and sum of the squares of the roots is 25 is ?

We know that 3+4 = 7 and squares of 3 and 4 make up 25.

Thus the answer is : X^2 – 7X +12 = 0 answer. Remember the basics: X^2 – (sum of roots) X + (Products of roots)

= 0 Sum of roots = -b/a and products of roots

=c/a


What is the value of 7/3 / ½ (5+1/ (1-1/2)?

=7/3 / ½ (5 + 2) 7/3 / ½*7 =7/3 *2/7 =2/3 answer.


In cyclic quadrilateral ABCD , A is 60, D = 90, B and C will be ?

C will be (180-60) = 120 B will be (180 – 90) = 90 Thus they will be 90 and 120 answer.


2^(2x-y) = 2^(X+Y) = 64, what is Y?

2^(2x-y) = 2^(X+Y) =2^6 (2x-y) = (X+Y) = 6 3x= 12 or X = 4 Thus Y =2 answer.


10 men can paint a wall 70* 30 in 10 days. How many days can 15 men paint 49*45?

Now they take 10 days, so start with it . . 10 *(49*45)/(2100) * 10/15 = 7 answer.


A cylinder and a cone have same base area and height. If their curved surface areas are in the ratio of 24:13, what is the ratio of their radius to the height?

Curved surface area = 2pi r*h : pi*r*l Thus these are : 2* r*h (13) = 24 * (r * (sqrt(h^2 +r^2)) 26RH = 24 R sqrt (H^2 +R^2) 13 R/12 R = H sqrt(h^2 + r^2) (take h =1) 13/12 = 1*Sqrt (1+R^2) (now square these) 169/144 = 1+R or R = 169/144 +1 = 2.17 thus their ratio is 1: 2.17 Answer.

Disqualified votes = 8320 One got 32%, = 16640. Thus the other got (52000 – 16640-

8320) = 27040 Thus victory margin was 10400 answer.


The age of father 4 years ago was 6 times the age of his son. If the present age of the father is 4 times the present age of his son, what will be the age of father after 4 years?

Options: 44, 40, 36, 48 Let us try with 44, we are able to get the

age of his son four years back as 6, which is now 10 answer.


The sum of 3rd and 7th term of an AP is 8. sum of first 9 terms will be?

Let us assume 5th term to be A. A-2D + A + 2D = 8 2A = 8 A = 4. 5th term is the middle term of first 9

terms, thus the addition of first 9 terms will give us 36 answer.


A train 180 m. long crosses a signal post in 9 seconds. The time taken by the train to cross a bridge of 270 m will be?

Speed of train is 180/9 = 20 m/s (180+270)/ 20 = 22.5 seconds


If there are two concentric circles on a plane such that area of inner circle is ¼ the area of outer circle. Ratio of circumference are?

Obviously the ratio will be 1:2 for smaller to larger circle.


In how many years will 1250 become 10000 at 12.5% simple interest?

The difference is 8750. One years interest is : 1250*.125=156.25 8750/156.25 = 56 Thus it will take 56 years.


In a class of 30 students, 10 speak English, 15 speak hindi and 6 speak both. How many students can speak neither English Nor Hindi?

30 – (( 10 + 15 – 6) =11 answer.


What is the range of 2x – x^2 +15 >=0?

The value of X can be less than or equal to 5 alternatively, it can be more than -3 .


P,Q,R, have capital of 3600, 4400, 2800, P gets ¼ profit for his services. How much did Q get, if P got Rs. 8000?

If net profit (after P share) is 324, P,Q,R will get 108, 132 and 84. P will get 1/3 *324 = 108 also. Thus P gets (108+108) = 216

Q will get here 132/216*8000 = 4888 ans. Here we have assumed 324 (total of 36, 44

and 28 multiplied by 3 – so that our calculation is easier).
