Crazy Hat Day

Newsletter

COVID-19 Update

On Friday 21st August, the students were

rewarded with a Crazy Hat Day for

demonstrating our PBS values - Respect,

Responsibility and Aspire.

We started off the day with a mini assembly

showcasing each class Crazy Hats to the rest of

the school.

There were some fabulous colourful creations.

Even some of our teachers were

unrecognisable!!!

Coastal Waste Warriors - Mr Lee Last week, Riverside Primary school students were treated to a

special visit from our very own, Mandurah’s Coastal Waste Warriors

where they met one of its first founders, Kirsten Field.

Kirsten and her family, first started the community group to spread

the awareness about plastic pollution whilst educating others on

ways to reduce our very own waste and plastics in Mandurah’s

waterways. The community group found ways to inspire others, by

looking after our environment and taking positive actions together for

our marine life and coastal areas.

Our students were introduced to the group and each year group

came up with strategies to reduce waste and plastics by rethinking

old habits and changing them into to new positive ones. Taking

positive actions for our land and oceans by following the six R’s of

sustainability. Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rethink and

Retrieve.

Well, the time had come to train ourselves in our new habits. On

Sunday 23rd August, Doddi’s Beach, Halls Head was home to the

Coastal Waste Warriors 14th Community Clean Up Event. The

turnout was amazing, where over 150 volunteers spent two hours

cleaning the shores and surroundings of this beautiful beach front

location. In total, they were successful in removing 138kgs of litter

and marine debris, preventing this from entering our ocean and

waterways. It was great to see a few of Riverside’s students and

teachers joining in on the fun. A fun morning was held by all.

The next community clean up event will be held in September at

Pyramids Beach, Dawesville. This, being home to where it all began

back in January 2019.

All students and teachers are encouraged to attend. We can all

make a difference for our community! This being only one of many

community events that our City of Mandurah invites us all to attend.

Remember, taking positive actions now will ensure that everyone will

be able to enjoy our beautiful waterways and marine life for many

years to come.

Pictured above are our very own Coastal Waste Warriors

Alexander M, Deakin P, Eden and Jevin C.

Under current DoE COVID-19 guidelines,

unfortunately no food (homemade or store bought) is

permitted on school premises for sharing in the

classroom for birthdays and special occasions. This

has been clarified by the COVID-19 support team this

week. We will advise when restrictions have been

lifted.

Thank you for your co-operation.
