Gate of Heaven Parking Lot Update - Sept. 15th As you know, over the past couple of years, we have been raising funds for the comple-tion of the parking lot at Gate of Heaven Church. The 2019 Grand Annual Collection

and also our Capital Campaign, that we began in 2018, we raised enough funds to complete the excavation, drainage work, and paving. The Archdiocese approved this work in late February, just before the pandemic lockdown. The drainage system is

complete, the first coat of the pavement was installed this past week, pavers will be completed shortly.

The next steps:

1. TTop (smooth) coat: The pavement will be installed and the lining of the lot will take place in the next 10 days. Parking in new lot will be ooff limits for about 5 days following the top coat install.

2. Plantings: The landscape will include bushes, trees, and grass all of which will be installed in late-September. Please see below on how you can help! 3. Statue of the Lord and the little children, in honor of the children that attended Gate of Heaven School, will be installed in the next few weeks. Memorial Pavers installed also. 5. Fencing: The fencing will hopefully be installed in the Fall. Hopefully our 2020 Grand Annual Collection will cover some of the cost to continue the wrought iron fence along East 4th and East 5th Streets. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

We are happy the project will soon be completed. Thank you to all who helped fund this project. Know that it is greatly appreciated!

It is going to look beautiful!

Confirmation Ceremony - 9th grade Thursday, October 1, 2020

Due to the restrictions in place the Confirmation Ceremony will be by invitation only. Only the candidate

for the sacrament, their sponsor and their parents/guardians will be able to attend the ceremony. More

information will be forthcoming and 8th grade classes.

Needed - Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers,

Adult Servers The Parish is in need of Lectors

and Eucharistic Ministers. Due to Covid-19, many of the more senior minsters have not

been able to serve. If you are able, healthy and willing - we will train you! The need is great for Lectors to assist

the priest in proclaiming the Word of God. Also - EEucharistic Ministers are needed for all Mass

times. For all ministries - you may

choose the Mass you assist at when scheduled. We are flexible with schedules.

Adult Altar Servers - Help

needed to Assist at Funerals for our

Deceased Loved Ones Our parishes of Gate of Heaven and St. Brigid are

currently in significant need of parishioners of any age who would be willing to help serve Funeral Masses.

Please consider helping the parish and the families of the deceased with this our most important work of mercy. If you are interested in assisting with any of these ministries or have questions, pplease contact the

Parish Main Office at 617.268.3344. Thank you!

Religious Education Classes Postponed start

K2 - through Confirmation Classes Postponed until further notice due to COVID-19. We possibly will not resume classes until January

2021. Please watch bulletin for updates.

Help Needed with Planting around the Parking Lot at Gate of Heaven

-Fall is a good time to plant!- Over the next two weeks we would like to get some volunteers to help plant some small bushes and small trees around the new Parking Lot at Gate of Heaven Church. IIf you are able to help - please call the Parish Office this week and tell us when you might be available to help. Volunteers will help save the Parish some money as we recover from the pan-demic effects on our budget. If you can dig a hole and lift a plant, you are welcome!

School News South Boston Catholic Academy has jumped into the school year

with much excitement. We have added many classrooms to support

our growing Early Childhood Program and

our Upper Grades. We also wel-come many new staff members, some of who are part of the Ur-ban Catholic Teachers Program at Boston College. The current 3rd Graders celebrated their

First Holy Communion (which had been rescheduled from the spring due

to COVID) this weekend. There is no doubt that they were

proud and felt ac-complished under

their masks. Photos courtesy of

GRAND ANNUAL COLLECTION

October 3rd and 4th, 2020 A special Grand Annual letter from Father Casey will

be mailed to all registered parishioners of Gate of Heaven Parish and St. Brigid Parish

in the coming weeks. Included is a pledge card to assist in making your

annual gift. You may mail it back to the Parish Office or place it in the collection at Mass. Additional pledge

cards and letters will be available the weekend of October 3rd and 4th at the doors of the Church.

While our weekly Offertory supports our day-to-day operations, the GGrand Annual Collection allows us to

continue capital improvements and on-going maintenance at the parishes.

This year, due to the effects of the pandemic, our need is great, so we are asking you to consider a gift that

would help us meet the needs of each parish’s capital improvement and ongoing monthly bills. This donation

could be done with monthly payments. We ask only that you give to the best of your ability.

We truly appreciate any assistance you can give, understanding that some households face financial

difficulties. We are counting on the many who are able to generously support our 2020 Grand Annual Appeal.

You may donate online via our website’s online giving portal.

Thank you for your generous support. ---------------

Please Update your contact information on the Pledge Card. Please provide your email address and phone number. We have been making greater use of email

since the pandemic began.

Welcome Deacon Danny Gustafson Welcome to Deacon Danny Gustafson, SJ to our Par-ishes. Every year we welcome a Jesuit Deacon who is completing studies at Boston College. Deacon Danny will be assisting at Masses, preaching and assisting with Baptisms and Marriages. Danny Gustafson, SJ was born and raised in Sioux Falls, SD. He went to Georgetown University in Washington, DC with aspirations of going into politics, but got to know the Jesuits on campus and wound up join-ing them after he graduated in 2011. After taking vows in 2013 he earned a Master's Degree in Philosophy at Loyola University Chicago, taught high school at Fordham Prep in the Bronx, and is now in his third and final year of theolo-gy studies at Boston College. He is very excited to get involved at Gate of Heaven and St. Brigid Parishes.

Becoming Catholic Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults

(RCIA) Program Every year the Church invites non-Catholic adults* into the RCIA, a course of learning and discern-ment to prepare them for full initiation in the Church. This year our parishes will host a digital course, which will commence on SSunday, October 18th. If you or someone you know has questions or is interested, please email our coordinator Javier Soegaard ([email protected]) or call the Parish Office. *Eligible adults include: 1) Those who have not been baptized; 2) those who have been baptized in other Christian traditions; and 3) those who were baptized Catholic, but never received Confirmation and Eucharist.

Our priests are often at the center of efforts that build

strong support systems for all of us. In addition to

their daily pastoral responsibilities, they help establish

social service organizations, offer spiritual support for first

responders, operate parish food pantries, and recently, in

response to the pandemic, put their lives at risk to provide

comfort and peace to those suffering with COVID-19.

Healthier priests build stronger communities. And the

Clergy Health and Retirement Trust (CHRT) is dedicated to

keeping our priests healthy.

This September, you can support the CHRT’s mission

by giving to the special collection at Masses on

September 19/20. Every gift makes a difference and is

a symbol of gratitude for all our priests who don’t just

observe need in our communities; they seek it out so

they can respond.
