Christmas Dinner Dance This will take place on 7th December, I am really looking forward to it. I hope as many members as possible attend and make it another great night. Notices are up at the three courses and at El Puente for anyone interested, or you can contact Karen or myself. My thanks to Karen, for organising the arrangements with Caves Restaurant. Ladies Day, Añoreta What a great success, 84 players, shotgun start, great prizes and food, my congratulations to Anne, Bev and Peter Jackson, Judy Howard, Anne Raper and all who helped to make it such a great day. Our thanks to all the Management and Staff at Añoreta, without whom the day would not have been possible.A special note of thanks, to Maylice, Steve and Cavan for a wonderful day, great company, great food and drinks around the course and of course second place. It was great to see Tita and Joe O’Connor at Baviera recently, they toured the back nine in a buggy and caught up with old friends, had drinks with us on the Terrace and had a wonderful afternoon, they send their thanks to all con-cerned. We hope to see them again very soon. Tita hopes to play again in the New Year, we wish her all the very best and look forward to seeing her on the fairways again. Again another busy month with GINS. Have a great month and play well..

Derek Geelon Captain

Once again our Sierra walk was met with perfect Autumn weather cloudless skies and an ideal temperature for walking. We met for a mid-day coffee in Competa before driving the short distance to Cannillas de Albaida and then on to the Fabrica da Luz, in the Parque National. The small stream that runs all year round used to generate electricity and was the focus of our relatively easy ramble. We were soon confronted with the first possibility of a 'bootful' but everyone made the crossings

without incident but a lot of laughs. Once we gained height the view of the val-ley opened up and we were flanked by walnut trees, some still bearing their fruit. Our target was achieved, to view a large cueva from the other side of the valley and then return for lunch. Anthonio's, the first restaurant on the right as you drive into Canillas de Albaida and I'm sure our group will be recommending his culinary skills, after a superb meal both in quantity and quality, all for just €10. For those

of you who couldn't be present, we'll look to do another walk early in the New Year.............

NOTES FROM THE COMMITTEE

Meeting held Saturday 26th October 2013 Captain Derek reported on the Anniversary Golf Day (widely reported on elsewhere!) as with the sale of 25th shirts, the 2014 Away Trip and he gave us an encouraging update on future match and advertising sponsors. Vice and Social reported that the Quiz Night had to be cancelled due to lack of numbers but after the cancellation enough people said that they had intended to come!! MORAL please do look out for these events and get your booking in early to ensure that they can go ahead. The Christmas Dinner Dance sales going well but please do book quickly when at your course. Derek Lowe is again running the No Xmas Cards Appeal in aid of the local cancer charity so again please book up at your course ASAP and at the latest by 29th November so that Derek can prepare the page for the December Newsletter Treasurer Gill wrote to say that the finances for GINS was running in line with expectations. The 2014 Budget will be prepared within the next few weeks in time for the November Committee Meeting. Reserves stand at €7,495 Añoreta Rep Anne reported that October had been a good month for numbers and games. She thanked in advance Beverly Jackson and her Team of very hard working Ladies for the Ladies Invitational. Baviera Rep Roy reported smooth running at Baviera with the experimental “Ready Golf” proving a “timely” success and he would be continuing it with the rounds coming down to c 4hour 20 minutes! The Baviera Turkey Trot has changed from the 10th to the 17th December with a Lunch/Dinner afterwards. Los Moriscos Rep Rita again reported on a good month of golf. The Vouchers are proving a great success at prize givings. Handicap Secretary Peter asks yet again please do not throw your card away even if it is NO RETURN or it is so bad I cannot be bothered) as lack of player’s cards skews the competition adjustment often to the detriment of others. Membership Secretary Rob smiling reported that we now have 324 members for 2013 290 renewals/34 New Members against the budget of 316 (2012 335 Members) For budget purposes the Annual Fee will be retained at €55. Publicity Officer Robert reported good press coverage for the 25 Anniversary. The Diaries and Membership Cards will be ready for Saturday 7th December at El Puente. AOB. The Club Championship format was discussed and it was agree that a full review would take place early in the new year. The Anniversary Championship was discussed and again will be reviewed in 2014 with maybe Trophies instead of wine etc. The €2 per player GINS Prize Fund to remain at that level. Nothing to report on Federation with elections due late November. Competitive quotes for GINS Insurance are being obtained. A potential Sponsor in the Financial Market has approached GINS but it was felt inappropriate alongside our existing 2 financial sponsors. Next Meeting Saturday 30th November 10.30 El Puente. Meeting close at 12.00

GINS MEMBERS JUST HAVE TO HAVE FUN!

There appears to be an urban myth about Winter Rules/Preferred Lies which I have heard on several occasions when playing with GINS. Basically Pick and Place of your ball is permitted on a Par 3 Hole when Winter Rules/Preferred Lies are promulgated either by the Course Committee or the Competition Committee (ie your Course Rep!). Under R&A Rules Appendix1 - 4 Course Conditions Section c a ball lying in a closely mown area through the green may be lifted without penalty and cleaned. Before lifting the ball he must mark its position. Having lifted the ball he must place it on a spot (only once as it is then in play and cannot be moved or the position adjusted again even if it moves slightly) with a folded Score Card longest side (GINS Rules!) Closely Mown Area is defined as any area of the course including paths through the rough, cut to fairway height or less. That is the case on many Par 3’s so the myth is just that! Pick and Place
