Casting Using VisiJet™ FTX Cast•For Cast use normal casting tools (e.g. files, knives) •Wax can be used to spru and repair parts•Follow wax casting procedure from manufacture

Page 37: 2515_1200 Webinar new materials_Dec 2014 update.ppt

ProJet® 1200 Webinar- Best Practices

• Critical Dimensions/features should be oriented up-facing surface (opposite sides from supports)

Page 38: 2515_1200 Webinar new materials_Dec 2014 update.ppt

ProJet® 1200 Webinar- Best Practices

For the VisiJet™ FTX Silver and Gold it is best to orient the critical surface up-facing to give best appearance.

Questions?

Page 46: 2515_1200 Webinar new materials_Dec 2014 update.ppt

ProJet® 1200 Webinar- Questions

When will Geomagic Print 1.2 be available?

It will be available when the new materials are shipped out.

Page 47: 2515_1200 Webinar new materials_Dec 2014 update.ppt

ProJet® 1200 Webinar- Questions

How successful has FTX Cast material been with Casting Jewelry?

FTX Green has been cast at many jewelry companies that can cast platinum. Weston Beamor in the UK has successfully cast FTX Cast. We have had many test sites cast FTX Cast with various investment including R&R Ultravest, R&R Plasticast, and Kerr Satin Cast.

Page 48: 2515_1200 Webinar new materials_Dec 2014 update.ppt

ProJet® 1200 Webinar- Questions

What is the price of the new material?

Pricing of Clear, Cast and Gray are the same as FTX Green. Gold and Silver are a little more. Check with your reseller for local pricing.

Page 49: 2515_1200 Webinar new materials_Dec 2014 update.ppt

ProJet® 1200 Webinar- Questions

Can I exchange the un-useable Green material I have purchased for the new Cast material?

3D Systems will not exchange materials but check with your reseller.

Page 50: 2515_1200 Webinar new materials_Dec 2014 update.ppt

ProJet® 1200 Webinar- Questions

Will FTX Cast work with Casting Stainless steel?

Yes, if your application requires a wax part the FTX Cast should work for that process.

Page 51: 2515_1200 Webinar new materials_Dec 2014 update.ppt

ProJet® 1200 Webinar- Questions

Can the cast material build features that are 0.20 mm?

Yes, the pixel size is 56 microns and the layer thickness is 30 microns so it is possible to build features this small but they won’t be very strong. You should keep the height of features that small under 2mm or so.

Page 52: 2515_1200 Webinar new materials_Dec 2014 update.ppt

ProJet® 1200 Webinar- Questions

Can I order the Cast material only and receive right away?

Yes, we will be shipping before the end of the month.

Page 53: 2515_1200 Webinar new materials_Dec 2014 update.ppt

ProJet® 1200 Webinar- Questions

Are any of these materials FDA approved?

At this point in time materials are not FDA approved.

Page 54: 2515_1200 Webinar new materials_Dec 2014 update.ppt

ProJet® 1200 Webinar- Questions

What is the Shelf life of the FTX materials?

FTX Green, Cast, Clear, and Gray have a shelf life of 1 year.

FTX Gold and Silver have a shelf life of 6 months because the pigments can settle over time. We are checking if the pigments can be remixed into material, but at this time they are certified for 6 months.

Page 55: 2515_1200 Webinar new materials_Dec 2014 update.ppt

ProJet® 1200 Webinar- Questions

Page 57: 2515_1200 Webinar new materials_Dec 2014 update.ppt

ProJet® 1200 Webinar- Questions

Will the software take in JCD files?

No, JCD files are slice files and cannot be directly printed to the ProJet® 1200. However the latest Jewel Cad software can export an STL file which can be printed with this printer.

Page 58: 2515_1200 Webinar new materials_Dec 2014 update.ppt

ProJet® 1200 Webinar- Questions

Where does the service log go. To the reseller or 3D Systems?

The service log generates a zip file that can be sent to Reseller and 3D Systems Support if service support is needed.

Page 59: 2515_1200 Webinar new materials_Dec 2014 update.ppt

ProJet® 1200 Webinar- Questions

Can we lower the part to Z=0 so that the bottom of the sprue is on the build platform?

If you are building with CAD generated supports there is a work around you can use:

1. Set the support preferences to .060mm (two layers)2. Manually add a support to the bottom of the CAD support3. Prepare build file as normal

This will embed the CAD support in the print pad that is generated on the build platform. The print pad is typically 200-400 microns thick

Page 60: 2515_1200 Webinar new materials_Dec 2014 update.ppt

ProJet® 1200 Webinar- Questions

Is it possible to generate supports in another software other than Geomagic Print?

Yes you can, but be sure to use the technique mentioned in the previous question

Page 61: 2515_1200 Webinar new materials_Dec 2014 update.ppt

ProJet® 1200 Webinar- Questions

What are the estimated life spans of the UV lamp in the Curing Chamber.

The UV Curing Lamp is rated for 2000 hours. At 10 minutes per curing cycle that is 12,000 builds.

Page 62: 2515_1200 Webinar new materials_Dec 2014 update.ppt

ProJet® 1200 Webinar- Questions

How often will the LED projector need to be replaced?

The LED light source for the projector is rated for thousands of hours which should be many years of normal use.

Page 63: 2515_1200 Webinar new materials_Dec 2014 update.ppt

ProJet® 1200 Webinar- Questions

Will you be adding the ability to preview VBF files in 1.2?

At this time this function is not available. We don’t know if we will create this ability in the future.

Page 64: 2515_1200 Webinar new materials_Dec 2014 update.ppt

ProJet® 1200 Webinar- Questions

Is the offset design Z-axis corrected on the new version of Geomagic?

Yes, there is a new function that allows for Z correction. See the setting in the Preferences section. Start with .1mm and increase it to a max of .3mm. This only corrects for excess material on the support side of the part. This excess material is caused by the “print through” effect of the UV light curing more than one layer deep at a time. The typical print through error is 200-300 microns but it varies depending on geometry.

Page 65: 2515_1200 Webinar new materials_Dec 2014 update.ppt

ProJet® 1200 Webinar- Questions

Do you have the temperature curve we need to cast the Cast material?

We have had FTX Cast successfully at several test sites using a range of material. R&R Plasticast and Ultravest and Kerr Satin Cast 20. It is important to follow the manufacturer’s directions for the investment. We are working on a FTX Cast specific casting guide.

Page 66: 2515_1200 Webinar new materials_Dec 2014 update.ppt

ProJet® 1200 Webinar- Questions

Customer told me that when he release support, he gets a small hole. Is it the same at the CAST material?

With Geomagic Print 1.2 there will be a small taper at the end of the support where it attaches to the geometry. The intent is to have the support break off outside the part making finishing much easier.

Page 67: 2515_1200 Webinar new materials_Dec 2014 update.ppt

ProJet® 1200 Webinar- Questions

If the FTX cast requires more substantial supports, will the software automatically create these bigger supports when the FTX Cast material is selected?

Yes it will use thicker supports when automatically generating supports. We recommend adding additional supports to part depending on how large they are.

Page 68: 2515_1200 Webinar new materials_Dec 2014 update.ppt

ProJet® 1200 Webinar- Questions

Can cast material also be used for dental?

Yes, Cast will work for dental Applications as well.

Page 69: 2515_1200 Webinar new materials_Dec 2014 update.ppt
