    Intro(uction

    -ongenital de+ects, abnormalities o+ structure or +unction .resent at birth, may be

    caused by genetic or environmental +actors, or a combination o+ both5 in many cases, the causes

    are unno6n' 7he most common bovine environmental teratogens include toic .lants consumed

    by the dam and maternal+etal viral in+ections during gestation' -ongenital mal+ormation

    sometimes leads to .erinatal mortality, and it may also decrease maternal .roductivity and reduce

    the value o+ the de+ective neonates' Severe de+ects results in abortion o+ the cal+ or a return to
