Many thanks to one of our deputy principal’s, Helene Hamilton for her leadership of Orange High over the last couple of weeks while I have been on long service leave. I am privileged to work with a strong leadership team who individually and collectively have the capacity to ensure smooth operations, and continue to progress the direction and priorities of our school in my absence. For many of our talented students in the Creative and Performing Arts, the highlight of the year is their involvement in the annual School Spectacular in Sydney. The School Spectacular is a showcase of more than 3000 students from across the state which celebrates the full spectrum of the creative and performing arts including dance, choral, music, drama and acrobatics. We wish them all the best for a terrific experience. The photo on the right show some of our excited students on the train to Homebush who were getting ready for their first of four ‘live’ performances over the next two days. On Thursday, the Skillsroad Team, sponsored by the NSW Business Chamber, visited Orange High School to speak about career goal setting, employability skills and planning for students from Years 9 and Year 10. Students benefitted from the vocational career journey of a local chef from Orange Ex-Services Club and Interested students also participated in an intensive “My Career Plan” workshop to further consolidate their future career plan. We were pleased to host primary students from Canobolas and Nashdale Public Schools to support their development of technology skills as a result of our Fair Funding program, an initiative of the Vincent Fairfax Foundation. As a result of the program, future students were provided with opportunities to further enhance their existing skills with technology including digital literacy and coding. We look forward to further partnerships over the coming months and years with our partner primary schools.

Well done to the OHS Girls Cricket Team who played against Blayney High School.

Although they did not take home the victory, the girls played in good spirit and many laughs were had.

- Ms Livingstone (Coach)

On Wednesday, 86 Year 10 students attended the Orange Jobs Expo. Students had the opportunity to speak with the thirty prospective employers and training organisations in attendance. Everyone was able to gather plenty of pamphlets, lollies, pens and other merchandise that will hopefully help them make an informed decision about their future careers. A few students were also fortunate enough to apply and secure part-time/casual jobs on-the-spot!

Many thanks to Mr Sutherland and Mr Wharton for accompanying myself and the Year 10 students on such an enjoyable excursion.

Our 7/8’s Touch football teams travelled to Penrith last week to play in the final 16 schools across the state. The results were as follows:

Boys * 6 - nil win over Tweed River High School * 4-3 loss to Edmund Rice College * 4-2 loss to Narrabeen * And a loss in the quarter final to Patrician Brothers saw their finals hopes come to an end.

Girls * 5-nil win against Hunter Sports High * 7-1 win against Macintyre High School * 4-3 loss to Callaghan College * 4-2 win against Hunter Sports High (second game) * 3-2 win against Tweed River High School in the quarter final, and then * The girls lost to Mackellar College, after being reduced to three players in a drop off.

Both teams played with sportsmanship and high levels of motivation for the duration of the carnival. The girls should also be congratulated on their top 4 finish in the state.
