Adventure seekers, nature lovers and curious minds are all drawn to the lush rainforests, unique wildlife, peaceful villages, pristine mountains and delectable cuisines of Borneo.
Take in the rehabilitation work being done at the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, cruise along the gentle waters of Kinabatangan River and spot cheeky monkeys on Oxbow lakes. This tour will see you enjoy one of National Geographic’s Unique Lodges of the World in the shadow of Mount Kinabalu and a stay in the heart of the Danum Valley. We’ll then whisk you away for a breathtaking 11-day journey aboard the iconic Star Clippers, setting sail to Singapore.

DAY ONE 8 MAY 2021
We’ll pick you up from your home*
for an easy transfer to Sydney
Airport. We’ll depart in the evening
for an overnight flight to Kota
Kinabalu in Sabah.

DAY TWO9 MAY 2021
Welcome to Borneo! On arrival we
will be transferred to our hotel to
check in and recover from the flight.
This evening, our guide will take
us on a brief walking tour of Kota
Kinabalu, finishing with a local dinner
at the Filipino Night Market – a
bustling and colourful market by the
South China Sea.

DAY THREE10 MAY 2021
Today we take a scenic journey into
Borneo’s rugged island interior.
Travel along winding roads, passing
paddy fields and local villages en
route to the Poring Hot Springs.
Take a walk around this beautiful
compound which takes its name from
the giant bamboo that surrounds
it. See Japanese-style outdoor hot
tubs, which are filled from natural
hot springs believed to possess
therapeutic effects!
Continue to nearby Kipungit Waterfall
to admire this spectacular natural
wonder. After lunch, stop at Mount
Kinabalu National Park for a guided
walk to learn about the vast array of
flora found in this lush park. Admire
views of Southeast Asia’s highest
peak – Mt Kinabalu – in the distance,
before returning to your hotel.

DAY FOUR11 MAY 2021
After breakfast, we will transfer to the
airport for our flight to Sandakan. On
arrival, stop by at Sandakan Memorial
Park, which commemorates the
sacrifice and suffering endured by
both Australian and British soldiers
who were held as prisoners by the
Japanese between 1942 and 1945.
Visit the Puu Jih Shih Buddhist
Temple, located on a steep hilltop
which affords magnificent views
overlooking Sandakan Bay and the
town centre, before we check in to
our accommodation

DAY FIVE12 MAY 2021
Today you will visit the world’s
largest orangutan rehabilitation
centre at Sepilok. Witness the
orangutans being fed by the rangers
and keep your camera handy as you
stroll the jungle-flanked wooden
walkways. We will continue to the
Bornean Sun Bear Conservation
Centre, where you can observe these
precious animals. There are currently
36 bears housed at the center,
which have been rescued from
poachers. This afternoon we will be
transferred along the Kinabatangan
River to reach the award-winning
Sukau Rainforest Lodge. Named one
of National Geographic’s ‘Unique
Lodges of the world’, immerse
yourself in the tranquillity of the
rainforest and the cacophony of
its inhabitants. We will spend two
nights’ here, starting our stay with
a candlelit dinner overlooking the
banks of the river.

DAY SIX13 MAY 2021
Rise early in the morning with the
birds and other animals of the river
for a cruise to Kelenanap Oxbow
Lake. The crescent shaped lake
formed when the river’s meandering
became so wide that it cut itself
off. After breakfast, proceed for an
educational tour along our Hornbill
Boardwalk located behind the lodge
with the in-house naturalist. In the
afternoon, we enjoy another river
cruise for more wildlife spotting.

DAY SEVEN 14 MAY 2021
Today we will travel into the thick
virgin rainforest area of Danum Valley
– one of the world’s most complex
ecosystems. On arrival at the Borneo
Rainforest Lodge, check in and enjoy
a late afternoon walk along the trails
and the 130-metre-tall, 300-metre-
long canopy walk. You will be high up
in the 130-million-year-old rainforest,
which is literally humming with jungle
sounds. This pristine rainforest is
also home to more than 340 species
of birds, 124 species of mammals,
72 species of reptiles, 56 species of

amphibians and a staggering 200
species of plants per hectare.
Tonight, board one of the open-top
4WD vehicles for an exhilarating
night spotlighting tour. Accompanied
by a local guide who shines a light
into the jungle, spot a range of
nocturnal animals that inhabit the
reserve, from samba deer to civet
cats, leopards, and a stunning array
of insects and frogs.

DAY EIGHT15 MAY 2021
The morning chorus of the jungle is
a cacophony of sounds ranging from
birds to primates, such as the gibbon.
Taking a packed breakfast, travel to
a 200-year-old Kadazandusun Burial
Site, known as “Coffin Cliff”, along
the 2.6km Viewpoint Trail. The end of
this trail results in spectacular views
over a million-year-old jungle – a
truly spectacular sight. The return
journey includes a trip to waterfalls
for a refreshing dip in the Jacuzzi
Pool – with the added benefit of
nibbling fish! Enjoy lodge activities in
the afternoon, or simply relax before
venturing into the jungle on foot
after the sun sets. Quietly entering
the jungle reveals an amazing array
of wildlife, not to mention the variety
and size of the many insects that
flourish in the evening hours.

DAY NINE16 MAY 2021
Today we will fly back to Kota
Kinabalu, staying a further two
nights, but this time at a beautiful
five star beach resort.

DAY TEN17 MAY 2021
Mari-Mari Cultural Village is located
deep in the countryside away from
the modern and developing Kota
Kinabalu city. The village operates
as a museum that preserves Borneo
ethnic culture. It aims to share the
knowledge, history, culture, and
tradition of Borneo with you, so
that it is not forgotten. Our visit
offers you the opportunity to see
and experience the culture and
lifestyle of how the indigenous
ethnic groups of Borneo used to live
when electricity had not yet been
introduced in their land.

DAY ELEVEN18 MAY 2021
Enjoy a morning of leisure before
climbing aboard the impressive
tall-ship, Star Clippers. We will be
cruising for the next 11 days, through
to Singapore.

DAY TWELVE19 MAY 2021
Our first stop via ship is Tiga Island, a
group of small uninhabited islands in
Kimanis Bay, which is off the western
coast of Sabah, Malaysia. Formed by a
volcanic eruption near Borneo in 1987,
there’s plenty to see and do here.
Snorkel or kayak in the clear waters,
dive into the deep to find underwater
treasures or discover Pulau Toga,
famous for its therapeutic natural
volcanic mud.

DAY THIRTEEN20 MAY 2021
Today we’ll explore the capital of
the Sultanate of Brunei, Bandar Seri
Begawan, host to the biggest water
village and one of the most peaceful
mosques in the world - Omar Ali
Salifuddien Mosque.
A long winding bridge leads from
the mosque, which is surrounded
by colourful floral gardens, to the
lagoon, where you can take in a
spectacular view of the water village.

DAY FOURTEEN21 MAY 2021
Miri is the second largest city
in Sarawak and the main tourist
gateway for numerous wildlife
attractions, including the fantastic
caves and waterfalls of Niah National
Park. Find local gifts in the great
local shopping malls or see some of
the local sites, including Unity Tower,
Pustaka Miri, Petroleum Museum,
views over Miri city from the top
of Capital Hill, the San Ching Tian
Temple and the Esplanade Beach at
Luak Bay.

DAY FIFTEEN22 MAY 2021
Today we visit Bintulu, formally
a fishing village that has become
industrialised due to the large
preserves of natural gas found
offshore.
Visit the local bars, restaurants and
nightclubs or see the crocodiles
and pythons in Taman Tumbina
zoo. Many visitors enter the park
simply to climb the hill and take in
the beautiful panorama of the South
China Sea.

DAY SEVENTEEN24 MAY 2021
Today we stop in Kuching, famous
for its one-mile long promenade
that follows the Sarawak river. Take
a stroll along the historic waterfront
to the 19th-century Old Court House,
which today is a centre of culture.
Visit the various court buildings to
see local exhibitions, theatre, poetry
readings and live music or stop by
the waterfront coffee shops, street
food stalls or tribal handicraft shops
for a tasty treat or souvenir.

We are stopped at Kuching until
3:00pm today, so take in the
opportunity to explore the thriving
waterfront community before we
spend a few nights at sea.

Today we disembark the Star
Clippers Cruise in Singapore. See
the century-old temples, bustling
city centres and lush green spaces
of Singapore on a city tour.

events, making this an enchanting
destination to visit.
DAY TWENTY-THREE/FOUR30-31 MAY 2021
Enjoy an easy flight back to Australia.
Our flight departs in the evening on
the 30th, arriving in Sydney on the
31st. Once bags are collected, you
will be transferred* back to your
home address.
