Hulle word met die inkomslag sorgvuldig geweeg, gefotografeer, dedokumenteer en in plastiek verpak, omdat hulle met tyd uitdroog en die gewig dus afneem.

Ongelukkig is die toekenning van sekerheidskontrakte deur die staat lankal n lukrake proses waar BEE teikens die groot maatstaf is en die wagte soms hopeloos is. Indien stelsels soos die kameras, sekerheidsligte ens. nie in werking was nie, moet die ondersoek hierdie prosesse bekyk, het Coetzee ges.

SOUTH Africas mining sector continues to go through bittersweet times with labour disputes, the weak rand and fluctuating commodity prices all having a huge influence on bottom line figures. For JSE-listed mining holding company Assore, the 6 months to December 31st represented a fantastic time, with a big helping hand from its subsidiary Assmang.During that period Assore saw its headline earnings increase by 119.4 per cent to R 2.4 billion. Assmang had a 104.4 per cent earnings jump for the corresponding timeframe and posted headline earnings of R 4.3 billion.The company attained ISO 9002 accreditation back in 1994 and in so-doing, was the first mining company in the Southern hemisphere to be audited and accredited for all surface and underground operations.By the end of the 20th Century, the company had made further acquisitions, including the chrome resource at Dwarsrivier, in Mpumalanga Province. With the Beeshoek mine reaching the end of its productive life, Assmang started planning to build a new mine on Bruce, King and Mokaning (BKM) farms. A feasibility study was commissioned in 1999 for a 10 million ton per year mine.In 2001 the company underwent a restructuring process and reformed under three divisions: Manganese (NChwaning, Gloria and Cato Ridge Works); Chrome (Dwarsrivier and Machadodorp); and Iron Ore (BKM project (Khumani) and Beeshoek).Withtransformation becoming a reality in South Africa, 2004 saw the restructuring of Anglovaal mining, to create African Rainbow Minerals (ARM), which became the first Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) mining giant in South Africa, with Assore and ARM each taking a 50 per cent holding.During 2005, a number of Assmangs main markets struggled but the company pressed on with its ambitions for the BKM project. As a consequence, in 2006 the company delisted from the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, with the proceeds from the sale earmarked for investment into new projects.The company has continued to invest in capital equipment and last year spent approximately R 131 million at its Khumani operation on the completion of a wet high-intensity magnetic separation plant.Additionally it was reported that a further R 297 million was spent in Assmangs manganese division on infrastructure and feasibility studies for the expansion of the Northern Cape-

based Black Rock mines capacity to at least four-million tons a year.Tenova Mining and Minerals announced in May that its Group company Tenova Pyromet, had successfully completed the rep lacement o f Assmang Chrome Machadodorp Works Furnace No 2s electrode pressure rings, 4 weeks ahead of schedule.Awarded as a turnkey contract in April 2012, the project involved the verification and adjustment of designs, supply and installation of lower electrode equipment, including pressure rings and heat shields, manufactured from stainless steel, as opposed to the mild steel of the original equipment. The conversion to stainless steel was necessary to enable the equipment to withstand the higher temperatures required for smelting manganese.Assmang is a forward-thinking company, despite its long history. With investment and growth driving the business forwards in the 21st Century, the business looks set to add many more chapters in the future.

Familie skryf:Spesiale dank aan die Rusoord Tehuis vir Bejaardes. Jeanetta Kruger en haar personeel vir soveel liefde en sorgsaamheid aan ons moeder. Ds. Abel Steyn en Cobie Steyn vir die liefde aan ons gesin. Dankie dr. De Kock en dr. Van Velden, ons waardeer wat julle gedoen het. Pieter sonder jou bystand sou ek dit nie gemaak het. Van Frans en Hannie van Wyk en gesin.

Dis baie maklik om die hele dag in jou pajamas te bly. Ek het dit vir amper twee dae gedoen. Die verskil is, ek het net elke dag ander pajamas aangetrek. Vir twee weke het ek wel die Maandag en Dinsdag kom werk om die koerant uit te bring. En van daar is ek weer reguit terug bed toe. Hoe langer mens in die bed, of voor die tv is hoe makliker word dit. Byges die brongitis het ook gehelp dat ek nul energie gehad het en dan baie siek was. Die hele tyd was 'n daad van absolute passiwiteit. Die huis raak al hoe stiller, mens wil nog minder sms of sosiale media gebruik. In teendeel klas (dit is wat 'n onderwyser lief was om te s), hoe langer mense niks doen nie hoe makliker word dit. Ek het vandag (Dinsdag) vir die eerste keer in 'n week uit die huis gekruip. En dit is nie maklik nie. Ek sal nou vir nog 'n week gaan terugkruip. Want ek voel regtig siek. Mens se eetlus is ook zero. So jy gaan l van een vertrek na 'n ander onder 'n kombers. My pragtige hond Ruby het nie op haar laat wag nie en sy was baie ingenome met die feit dat sy ook mag slaap, dis baie maklik om die hele dag te slaap. Juis omdat jy siek is. Dit is seker soos 'n vampier ook kan voel. Daglig maak my eintlik seer. Later hierdie week sal die skok van die daglig sekerlik insink. Ek het die hinderlaag (l laag en hinder niemand)-posisie ingeneem. Dankie tog my arme ma het vir my gesorg. Moet nooit die rol van 'n sieketrooster verwerp nie. Want mens het daardie ander asem in die huis baie nodig. In stede van die beoogde onaktiewe geestestoestand, waartydens 'n mens slegs voor jou uitstaar sonder denke, het dit ontaard in 'n onverwagse en onwillekeurige ont-dekkingstog van emosies. Die een televisie program omnibus na die ander het gevolg. Ja, ek het dvd gekyk en gelees. Maar my kop was heeltyd plat op die kussings. Ek dink die vloei van bloed sal stadig maar seker weer my redding wees om reg te kom. Dis nie regtig n goeie idee om voor die winter so siek te word nie. Want dit is nog nie eers die regte siekseisoen nie. Niks doen is ook iets doen. Dit het ek definitief bewys die afgelope twee weke.

THE 2014 South African general election will be held on 7 May 2014, to elect a new National Assembly as well as new provincial legislatures in each province. It will be the fifth election held under conditions of universal adult suffrage since the end of the apartheid era in 1994.The National Assembly consists of 400 members elected by proportional representation with a closed list approach. Two hundred members will be elected from national party lists; the other 200 will be elected from provincial party lists in each of the nine provinces. The President of South Africa will be chosen by the National Assembly after the election. The premiers of each province will be chosen by the winning majority in each provincial legislature.The National Council of Provinces (NCOP) consists of 90 members, ten elected by each provincial legislature. The NCOP members will be elected by the provincial legislatures in proportion to the party makeup of the legislatures.

It is suggested that we involve the schools in the province to develop heritage interest amongst the youth.Register of Museums and collections.We should actively start to collect information about all the various museums and artefact collections in the province. WHEEL WOMAN TEST: Opel Corsa 1.4 Turbo Enjoy DURBAN - When my son was about seven, he eyed an Astra as it pulled into our driveway and announced: Thats a Harry Potter car! It was the lightning bolt in the Opel logo which did it for him, and ever since, weve referred to all Opels as Harry Potters. Ive always been fond of the brand, being a solid German with little pretension and, generally, great performance. And so it is with a fairly new addition to the Corsa range the five-door 1.4 Turbo Enjoy. It has the word Turbo planted promisingly in bold letters on the back, but no other go-faster style cues. Those are to be found on the racy models in the Corsa range the 141kW OPC (Opel Performance Centre) and the even racier limited-edition 154kW OPC Nrburgring Edition, which announce what theyre about with 18 alloys, spoilers front and back, dual exhausts and leather Recaro sports seats. The Enjoy features a simple-but-neat matte black dash. The 1.4 Turbo, on the other hand, has a power output of 88kW between 4000 and 6000rpm, and 175Nm of torque between 1750 and 4750rpm, the designers having aimed more for improved fuel efficiency than hatch hotness. So its claimed fuel consumption is 5.5 litres per 100km, with impressively low carbon emissions of just 129 g/km. Its that combination of decent performance, coupled with fuel efficiency and that premium, quality feel, with which Opel hopes to lure more buyers in this small-engined segment. And Opels reassuring sure-footedness added to the mix makes it a very endearing little car indeed. Inside the classy, clean, gimmick-free design continues: a new matte-black instrument panel, simple dash design and fabric seats. Spec includes a multi-function steering wheel, 16 alloys, an improved sound system with Bluetooth, USB port, a new info display, ABS with EBD brake assist, two airbags, remote central locking and a chrome-plated exhaust outlet. Oh, and Opel also feels that chrome detailing around the gear lever is worth noting as an Enjoy feature. The boot is generously proportioned for a smallish hatch, so add a tick there. PRETORIA - A total of 3120 BMWs in South Africa are affected by the companys worldwide recall, to repair a possible engine-bolt defect. Guy Kilfoil, the general manager of group communications and public affairs at BMW South Africa, said on Friday that as part of a global voluntary quality measure, it was taking the precaution of checking the bolts on the Vanos unit in selected vehicles with six-cylinder engines and, depending on the results, the bolt or Vanos unit would be replaced. The Vanos unit is an automotive variable valve timing system produced by BMW. Kilfoil said BMWs recall affected 489 000 vehicles worldwide. The biggest individual markets affected were China with 232 000 vehicles and the US with 156 000 vehicles. Only 3120 vehicles are affected in South Africa and customers will be notified via letter to book their car into the nearest BMW dealer for repair, at BMWs cost. The recall campaign will only be implemented in South Africa from July onwards, he said. Kilfoil said the models affected in South Africa were the BMW 1 Series, BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series, BMW 6 Series, BMW 7 Series, BMW X1, BMW X3, BMW X5 (previous generation), BMW X6 and the BMW Z4 built between September 2009 and November 2011. This would only apply to those models with six cylinder engines. The vehicles remained safe to drive and there was absolutely no need for concern. Kilfoil added that to address this issue, BMW SA would begin notifying customers by means of a letter to have the improved plug concept, which prevented frictional corrosion, fitted at no cost to them. JOHANNESBURG - The countrys courts clogged by millions of misdemeanour cases, and the government forced to bail out Sanral, are signs of chaos, but for Outa it is the smell of victory. This morning the Opposition to Urban Tolling Alliance declared the governments revelation that only nine percent of freeway drivers had paid e-tolls a sign of the beginning of the end. Last week transport minister Dipuo Peters, in response to parliamenary questions from DA transport spokesman Ian Ollis, admitted that only R50 million of the more than R500 million billed by the South African National Roads Agency Limited had been recovered. Outa chairman Wayne Duvenage said today: Sanral can threaten as much as they want. People have the moral courage to stand up against an unjust system. More than a million freeway users had not bought e-tags, he said, so the National Prosecuting Authority could never properly prosecute those engaging in civil disobedience. Duvenage added that Outa had been inundated with e-mails and messages from drivers saying they would be happy to be arrested and argue their case against the e-toll system in court. Duvenage said this was a wake-up call to the government. What more do you need to know that taxpayers feel their time and money is being wasted? He said at the rate the roads agency was losing money, the government could start seeing Sanral in a negative light, but it was unclear if this would lead to the projects scrapping. The DAs Ollis said the extent of non-payment was a sign that the public clearly did not want e-tolls. It also reveals the costs of the administrative nightmare that has been debt-collecting over the past couple of months, he said. Peters had said that as at February 28, the revenue transferred to the VPC was R543 544 574. She said 9.21 percent (R50 043 487) of that had been collected. The outstanding payments were from both registered and non-registered e-toll road users. Ollis pointed out that R54 735 638 (excluding VAT) had been spent on collecting the outstanding e-tolls, including R32.8 million on printing and posting invoices to freeway users and another R21.9 million on debt collection, while only R50 043 487 had been recovered. Meanwhile, Sanral on Thursday denied experiencing cash-flow problems. The agency said it had 1.2 million registered e-tag users and collection of fines was going well. The agency collected R250.8 million in February, it said. Financial officer Inge Mulder said it was true that only nine percent of non-registered users paid after Sanral's seven-day grace period had expired, but 35 percent paid before the seven days were up. "There is no cash-flow problem but possibly a misunderstanding." "In fact, we are satisfied with both registrations and payments made by non-registered users," she said. "We have always trusted that the public will do the right thing and pay. This high level of compliance has also meant that we are on track to meet our debt obligations." The agency was responding to a news report that it could be facing cash-flow problems after recovering less than 10 percent of more than R500 million in overdue e-toll charges from freeway users. Experts reportedly warned the parastatal might not be able to service its R40 billion debt and might have to ask the Treasury for a bailout. Sanral denied laying off staff. PARIS - Less than a month after announcing its return to the Dakar Rally, Peugeot has unleashed the weapon that Carlos Sainz and Cyril Despres will use to tackle the world's toughest rally when the 2015 edition gets under way next January. As the name suggests, the 2008 DKR racing machine 'represents' the regular 2008 Crossover, but we have to be clear that in order to compete in the Dakar it's had to evolve into a bigger and far more hard-core beast. The DKR's design results from a close cooperation between experts at Peugeot's Style Centre and their colleagues at Peugeot Sports' design department. Peugeot is remaining secretive about the technical details for now, but the company has admitted that after careful consideration, it has chosen to opt for a two-wheel drive layout rather than the more conventional 4WD transmission. This, Peugeot says, allows the fitment of bigger wheels (the DKR runs on 37-inchers) and enables more suspension travel. Sainz seems pleased enough with the new design: "Having done the last two Dakars in a two-wheel drive car, I am convinced it is a solution that can win the event. FORMER Bafana Bafana captain Neil Tovey will be the first football star to make an appearance in the Imperial Auto Celebrity Challenge at round three of the Donaldson Cross Country Championship, the Nkomazi 450 in Malalane, on May 16 and 17.Tovey will navigate for Terence Marsh in the Regent Racing Nissan Navara running in Class T of the Production Vehicle category. Former Springbok rugby star Stefan Terblanche, who has made two Celebr i ty Chal lenge appearances, put forward Tovey's name and the soccer icon will follow television personality and former Springbok rugby legend AJ Venter in competing in this year's challenge.Tovey, born in Pretoria and educated at Northlands High School in Durban, was an all-around sportsman and excelled at cricket, soccer, hockey, baseball and softball. He was eyeing a medical career when soccer got the better of him and he signed professional forms for Durban City in 1981.Over the next two decades Tovey, a central defender, also played for Amazulu and Kaizer Chiefs where he spent nine years. Tovey played 52 times for Bafana Bafana without scoring a goal - and together with coach Clive Barker led South Africa to victory in the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations.After his playing career Tovey coached teams like Mamelodi Sundowns, Amazulu, Hellenic, Black Aces and Royal Thanda Zulu.
