Dear Parishioners,

My heart rejoices, when I received an email from Father John Kirby, SVD Provincial SVD Western Province saying that the provincial and his councils have appointed me to be the new parochial vicar of Holy Rosary

Cathedral in San Bernardino.

Here is a brief story about me. I was born and raised in Indonesia, like Father Alex Sila, SVD, but I was born on a different island, which is central Java. My grandparents were Chinese immigrants and came to Indone-sia in 1936 and I am the third generation of Chinese Indonesian in my family. My parents are Buddhist, how-

ever they sent me to Catholic school, where I got to know the Catholic faith.

Later on, I will tell you about my priesthood vocation. Long short story. After I worked eight years in New York City in 2009, I entered the Divine Word Seminary in Epworth, Iowa completing a Bachelor of Philoso-phy. After four and a half years at Epworth I entered the Divine Word Missionaries (SVD) novitiate in Tech-

ny, IL. August 8, 2015 I made my first vows in SVD, then moved to Chicago to continue my studies at the Catholic Theological Union. After two years of studying theology, I went to Paraguay to undergo a cultural

training program (pastoral year) for one and a half years. After that I returned to Chicago to finish my theolo-gy studies. September 19, 2020 I professed my perpetual vows then October 4, 2020 on the feast day of Saint

Francis of Assisi I was ordained a deacon by Mgr. Mark Bartosic, Auxiliary Bishop Archdiocese of Chicago. On May 22, 2021 to coincide with the feast of Santa Rita of Cascia, Patron Saint of the impossible causes four of my confreres and I were ordained priests, by Mgr. Robert Casey, vicar general of the Archdiocese of Chica-

go.

It is a blessing and pleasure to work as an associate pastor in Our Lady of Rosary Cathedral. I hope that after I come back from Indonesia I will have the opportunity to know all of you in person.

Is God Calling You to be a Catechist?

Men and women of all ages – from older teens to retirees – are needed to serve in our Religious Education and Youth in a variety of ways. Being involved in the faith formation process allows you to deepen your own faith, meet new people, and build our parish community. We will provide you will all the resources you need to teach and lead the children and youth in our program.

Ways to Serve

Catechist - A structured curriculum, lesson plans, and all teaching materials are provided to help you lead a class of 10-20 students. If requested, you will be partnered with a catechist assistant or co-teacher.

Catechist Assistant or Co-Teacher - You will work closely with the lead catechist in whatever capacity the two of you agree upon. You are the “extra set of hands” so very much needed when working with small children.
