22nd June 2017 Persistence Confidence Getting Along Organisation Resilience From the Assistant Principal Building and Grounds Levy We would just like to thank all the volunteers who have helped at a Farmers' Market this year. Without your support, important events cannot happen, or fall to the shoulders of a few. Bonbeach PS values our volunteers, and recognises this support through a reduction in fees for the following school year (2018) if the required number of shifts are met: FarmersMarket – 3; *Canteen – 9; and Working Bee – 3. Various combinations of the above can be undertaken such as: *6 Canteen shifts and 1 FarmersMarket; 1 Working Bee; *3 Canteen shifts and 1 FarmersMarket. *Canteen shifts must be in multiples of 3 to meet the criteria. *When the Canteen is operating again. The following families have met the requirements, and are eligible for a reduction in fees in 2018. This list will be updated as the year progresses. FarmersMarket After the disappointment of having to cancel the April market due to extreme wind conditions, we have had two excellent markets. In fact, all four markets that have occurred have been well attended. February – over 700 attendees March - 756 April – cancelled May – 875 June – 850 The Market in May was particularly pleasing since it was on MothersDay! The vouchers that were sold at the MothersDay Stall by the P & F were a fantastic incentive, and excellent value, for coming along that Sunday! Keep your eye out for something similar at the FathersDay Stall later this yearMoney made from the Market has been used in several ways. The undercover area near the BER, paying for buses to take the students in Grades 5/6 to Interschool Sport (it would be approximately $8 per week parents would have to pay), repairs to concrete around the school, the track that goes from the gate on Coast Banksia Drive to the BER, plus paying for the bus to take the 5/6 students to Pure Peninsula Honey as a part of the Garden Program (as further away than school sport, this would have added about $15 to the cost). As you can see, many things have been funded because of the efforts of all involved in the running of the Farmers Market. There have been a few suggestions regarding some bigger projects that we could work towards, such as Shade Sails over the playground and new play equipment. We hope to see you at the next Market in July! Agar-Wilson Legg Thomas Cartwright Littler Torresan Dowling Norton Fox Sfarlea Holi Shead Lang Swallow

Building and Grounds Levy We would just like to thank all the volunteers who have helped at a Farmers' Market this year. Bike Shed We have had some reports of bikes being taken from the bike shed. The teachers on yard duty after school have been instructed to lock the bike shed at 3:45pm, whether there are bikes left in there or not. If your child’s bike or scooter is locked inside, please come to the Office or see Sheila in After School Care, to have it unlocked for you. Please be aware that the Department of Education does not provide insurance for any personal property brought to school. From the Jumbunna dated 17

th February 2017:

Student accident insurance, ambulance cover arrangements and private property brought to school. Please be aware that the Department of Education and Training (DET) does not provide personal accident insurance or ambulance cover for students. Parents and guardians of students who do not have student accident insurance/ambulance cover are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including the cost of ambulance attendance or transport, as well as any other transport costs. Private property brought to school by students, staff or visitors is not insured and DET does not accept responsibility for loss or damage. This can include mobile phones, toys, sporting equipment, bikes and scooters, and cars parked on school premises.

Reports To continue from my piece in the Newsletter dated the 8

th June, 2017, there has been a change that may affect some of

our junior students. The Victorian Curriculum is structured as a single developmental learning continuum and is organised by levels, not years of schooling. The curriculum consists of Towards Foundation, and Levels Foundation to 10. Please keep in mind that as this is a new curriculum, the report is not designed to be, nor should it be, compared to previous years’ reports. The ‘Towards Foundation’ column will appear on our Prep/1 reports and, in some cases, on other individual student reports. The graph on the right shows what this will look like if your child has been allocated a ‘grade’ in the ‘Towards Foundation’ column.

.

Regards,

Patrick Walsh

Four year old pre-school applications for 2018 open now. Families wishing to submit an application for 4-year-old pre-school for 2018 need to apply through the City of Kingston Council website between 1 May and 30 June 2017 to be considered in the first round allocation of places. Visit the council’s website www.kingston.vic.gov.au/Services/Family-Children/Early-Years-Education-and-Care-Options/Four-Year-Old-Kindergarten-Central-Enrolment for more information and to apply. Information about how the City of Kingston allocates 4-year-old places is on the application form and on the council’s website. Please note that if the child to be enrolled has an older sibling already attending Bonbeach Primary School (co-located with Bonbeach Pre-School) this should be noted on your application form to ensure the council allocates places accordingly. Bonbeach Pre-School provides families with a unique experience of a kindergarten and school integrated in one location. Our pre-school program introduces each child to an enjoyable and challenging environment where they can develop a love of learning. Tours and further information about Bonbeach Pre-School are available by contacting the kinder on 9776 3077 or at [email protected]
