WELCOME

IN LESS THAN THREE DECADES POKLJUKA HAS BECOME A REGULAR FEATURE OF WORLD BIATHLON.

Only few still remember the first biathlon competitions in Slovenia. With rare intermissions, Pokljuka has been a part of the global biathlon family ever since the 1992/93 season. In less than three decades, this sport has been assimilated into Slovenian culture.In Slovenia, biathlon received a great impetus in the former Yugoslavia with the 1984 Winter Olympic Games in Sarajevo. Back then, a group of enthusiasts wanted more and succeeded in bringing the World Cup to Pokljuka, though in modest circumstances.The young Slovenian state experienced many difficulties when transitioning to independence. But not in sport. Slovenia’s advantage in its candidacy for the World Cup was its long tradition and good organization of winter sporting events. The candidacy for organizing World Cup competitions was also supported by Uroš and Jure Velepec, Sašo Grajf and Andreja Grašič, who achieved very good results; this helped Pokljuka to convince the leadership of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) that it deserved to organize top-level competitions.Back then, traditional venues were favoured, whereas now various competitions are moving to Asia and other places due to marketing directions; three decades ago, Pokljuka was also in luck that it was easier to win the right to host competitions.Pokljuka’s beginnings were humble. The race was held at an improvised snow stadium with an improvis ed press centre in a classroom at the nearby barracks; at that time, biathlon had a much more humble status than today, when it ranks among the top winter sports.This was followed by constant development and changes, the first World Cup in 2001, and the renovation of the Biathlon Centre a decade ago; new challenges are already in store. Next year, Rudno polje will once again be hosting the World Championships Biathlon, the biggest winter sporting event in Slovenia to date.

As Pokljuka and the conditions at the Biathlon Centre were continuously improving, so were Slovenian competitors. Let us mention at least Jakov Fak’s victory and second place at the home race in 2012, and Tadeja Brankovič’s third place in 2007.

SC Triglav Pokljuka is situated at the high plateau 1340 m above sea level, 20 km from Slovenian famous tourist resort Bled. The whole region is a part of the Triglav National Park, covered with pine trees. All courses are in the woods area. The only clear part is the Stadium with Shooting range, Start/Finish Area, Wax Cabins and Ski test area.

OC Pokljuka will be happy to assist you in case you have booked accommodation through official accommodation agency with a free-of-charge transfer from the Airport Ljubljana or nearest train station upon prior notification (date, time, flight/train number, number of people details are required).

In the time of the event free transportation for media representatives will be arranged from Bled to the competition venue at Pokljuka and back from the plateau next to the Bled Sports Hall (stop S4 on map). Media Shuttle bus service will be operating according to the time table below:

During the Competition days (23 - 26 January 2020) there will be departures every 45 minutes from Bled, the actual departure time depends on the beginning of the competition each day. After the competition the Media Shuttle bus will leave Pokljuka at 17:00 and 18:00 every day.On Official Training days (22 and 23 January 2020), there will be two departures (09:00 and 12:00) from Bled and two buses going back from Pokljuka (14:00 and 17:00). All media representatives must submit their transportation bookings until 18:00 one day before on the form provided at the Media office at the venue.Any additional transportation may be provided depending on the media requirements and availabilty. MEDIA CENTREMedia Centre is located in Pokljuka at Hotel Center Pokljuka (basement area). It is intended solely for the work of journalists and reporters. A designated space for photographers’ work is arranged in the mobile container next to main Media Centre.

IntERnEt At tHE MEDIA cEntRE AnD stADIuMFree-of-charge wireless internet as well as high speed internet will be available at the Media Centre and the Stadium. Kindly contact the Media Centre personnel to receive the login details.

MEDIA cAtERIngNext to the main Media Centre and above the photographers’ workspace a food corner will be available (9F sign on accreditation needed) where hot drinks, water, snacks, fruit, pastries as well as a hot dish will be served.

PRESS CONFERENCESA press conference will be organized after each competition at the Media Centre. The best three athletes from each competition are to participate at the conference. After the relay competitions the winning team as well as the two athletes from the second and third team will attend the press conference. Other biathletes are avail-able for interviews only upon prior request. An interview corner where the individual interviews can be conducted will be set up at Media Centre as well.

FLOWER CEREMONYAward ceremony for the best six competitors in the individual races and best three relay teams will take place immediately after the end of the race in the finish area.

MIXED ZONEMixed Zone is located behind the Finish Area. Access from the Media Centre is clearly marked. The positions in the Mixed Zone are defined and media personnel is kindly requested to follow the instructions. Mixed Zone is for flash interviews only. The top three athletes of the races are available for longer interviews at the press conference in the Media Centre after the competition.

PHOTOGRAPHER (MOVING MEDIA) INFORMATIONMAIn-BRIEFIng FOR MOVIng MEDIAThe main briefing for Moving Media is on Thursday, 23 January 2020 at 12 PM in the photographers booth next to the main Media Centre. All moving media are requested to attend the main briefing.The daily briefings will take place each competition day 1,5 hours prior to the com-petition start in the main Media Centre. The detailed schedule will be published at the welcome desk in the main Media Centre.

BIBsAll accredited moving media are required to wear a bib in the competition area to get access to the Photo Zones. These bibs are available in the accreditation (TV Rights Holders and Non Rights Holders) and in the media center in coordination with the IBU Photo Manager. There are three different bibs for TV-Crews and two

different bibs for photographers: HB-Priority-bibs for the Host Broadcaster, RHB-bibs for the rights holders, NRH-bibs for non rights holders. One bib is for generally accredited photogra-phers and the priority-bib is for international agencies only who

have access to restricted areas. The priority bibs are handed out by the IBU Photo Manager only at the main briefing. For the bibs a 20 Euro (general admission) and 50 Euro (Priority) deposit must be paid.

IN A PROTECTED AREA OF TRIGLAV NATIONAL PARK

We hope that the paths you take in Triglav National Park will leave you with lasting memories and encourage you to

come back again, for another story, just as exciting and unique as this one.

Please leave your vehicle in one of the many designated car parks.

Stay on the trails. Keep your noise level down and avoid disturbing the animals.

Respect the habitats of plants and animals. Admire them, but make sure your presence

does not disturb their lives, as unique and magical asyours.

Enjoy clear starry nights from a bench outside a mountain hut, lodge, shelter or bivouac. Camping or bivouacking outside

designated areas is not permitted.

Be considerate visitors who take nothing except for memories and data stored on memory sticks.

Snowmobiles are not permitted in the natural environment. Decide to walk instead and breathe in the fresh air.

Drones are a disturbance for the passers-by and, in particular, for the animals as they have to preserve their energy in order to survive the winter. For this reason, the flying of drones is

prohibited in the natural environment.

We are kindly inviting you to the Pokljuka Biathlon World Cup Organizing Committee Reception Dinner that will take place

on Friday, 24 January 2020 at 20h in Rikli Balance Hotel.Delicious dishes and various drinks will be served. At the reception you will also have the opportunity to socialize with members of the Interna-

tional Biathlon Union, Organizing Committee, and many others involved in the organization of the competition.

The invitation may be collected at the Media Centre.
