PRECAUTIONARY STATEMENTS

Environmental HazardsThis pesticide may be toxic to fish andaquatic invertebrates. Do not apply directlyto water, to areas where surface water ispresent, or to intertidal areas below themean high water mark. Drift and runoffmay be hazardous to aquatic organisms inwater adjacent to treated areas. Do notcontaminate water when disposing ofequipment wash waters or rinsate.

This chemical has properties and charac-teristics associated with chemicals detectedin groundwater. The use of this chemicalin areas where soils are permeable, partic-ularly where the water table is shallow,may result in groundwater contamination.Application around a cistern or well mayresult in contamination of drinking wateror groundwater.

Gordon’s Brushmaster® Herbicide isrecommended to contro l perennia lbroadleaf weeds and undesirable woodyplants established in noncropland. It iseffective for buckbrush, poison ivy, multi-flora rose, and sumac established in theuncultivated areas presented below:

Applications to non-cropland areas are notapplicable to treatment of commercialtimber or other plants being grown for saleor other commercial use, or for com -mercial seed production, or for researchpurposes.

B. Prohibitions for Noncropland Sites.• Do not apply to any body of water such

as lakes, streams, rivers, ponds, reser-voirs, or estuaries (salt water bays). Donot apply to any shorelines (noncrop-land sites adjacent to the edges of abody of water) for lakes, streams, rivers,ponds, reservoirs, or estuaries (saltwater bays).

• Do not apply to wetlands (swamps,bogs, potholes, or marshes).

• Do not apply to agricultural irrigationwater or on agricultural irrigation ditch-banks and canals.

• Do not apply to agricultural drainagewater or on agricultural ditchbanks.

APPLICATION TIMING FOR MIXED BRUSH:Spraying can be effective throughout thegrowing season from full leaf to leaf dropfor mixed brush. Full cover sprays shouldbe applied during warm weather whenbrush and broadleaf weeds are young andactively growing. All leaves, stems, andshoots should be thoroughly wetted to theground. Do not cut brush unt i l the herbicide has translocated throughout theplant causing root death.

Basal bark, cut stump, and frill treatmentsof Gordon’s Brushmaster® Herbicide areappropriate during the dormant periodbefore bud growth or any signs of activegrowth of the mixed brush. However, basalbark treatments may be applied anytime ofthe year except when water or snowprevents spraying to the ground line.

2. Individual Plant Treatments:BASAL, CUT SURFACE, AND FRILL APPLICATIONS:Limitations for basal spray, frill, and cutsurface (stump) treatments. Use only onebasal spray, frill or cut surface applicationper year. Refer to the section for broadcastapplications to woody plants for additionallimitations and maximum rates.

Basal Bark Method – Apply a coarsespray as a drench treatment to the base ofstems and trunks up to a height of 18 to24 inches. Total coverage of the stems androot collars is essential. Spray until runoffand pooling at the ground line is noticed.Thorough coverage is required for all basaltreatments.

Spray volumes will depend upon the sizes,types and densities of brush present.Apply a coarse spray as a drench treat-ment to the base of stems and trunks up toa he ight o f 18 to 24 inches . Tota lcoverage of the stems and root collars isessential. Spray until runoff and pooling atthe ground line is noticed.

Frill Treatment – This treatment isrecommended for culling trees with trunkdiameters greater than 5 to 6 inches.Make a frill by using an axe to cut overlap-ping notches in a continuous ring aroundthe trunk near its base. Cut through thebark but do not remove chips.

Mix 10.0 f lu id ounces of Gordon’sBrushmaster® Herbicide with 1.0 gallon ofoil (diesel oil, No. 1. or No. 2 fuel oil,kerosene, mineral oil, or other oil blendsformulated for basal applications). Refer toTable 2 for spray preparation. Spray orpour the spray mixture into the frillswithout runoff.

3. Ornamental Lawns and Turf(Cool Season Grasses OtherThan Bentgrass):Not for use on turf being grown for sale orother commercial use as sod, or forcommercial seed product ion, or forresearch purposes.

The best results will be obtained fromspring or early fall applications whenweeds have emerged and are activelygrowing. Avoid spraying during long,excessively dry or hot periods unlessadequate irrigation is available. Do not irrigate within 24 hours after application.

USE PRECAUTIONS:• Avoid spray droplets onto vegetables,

flowers, ornamental plants, shrubs,trees and other desirable plants. Do notpour spray solutions near desirableplants.

• Do not use on carpetgrass, dichondra,St. Augustinegrass, bentgrass, nor onlawns or turf where desirable cloversare present.

• Use only lawn-type sprayers. Do notexceed specified dosages for any area.

• Do not apply to newly seeded grassesuntil well established. Seed can be sown3 to 4 weeks after application.

• Do not spray when air temperaturesexceed 85°F.

• Do not apply this product through anytype of irrigation system.

• Do not use this product on or neardesirable plants, including contact of

spray on exposed root systems oradventitious shoots within the drip lineof desirable trees and shrubs, sinceinjury may result.

Application Rates – Apply 4 to 6 pints ofproduct in 20 to 260 gallons of water peracre (1.5 to 2.2 fluid ounces of product in 1 to 6 gallons of water per 1,000 squarefeet). Use higher rates when using thehigher volume of water per acre.

Limitations on broadcast treatments for ornamental turfgrass: The maximum application rate is 6.0 pintsof product per acre per application. Themaximum number of broadcast applica-tions is l imited to 2 per year with aminimum of 30 days between applica-tions. The maximum seasonal rate is 12.0pints of product per acre .

Sma l l A r ea App l i ca t i ons (No tRecommended Fo r Hose EndSprayers) – For spot treatments andsmall areas, mix Gordon’s Brushmaster®

Herbicide at 1.5 fluid ounces per 1 gallonof water per 1,000 square feet or followthe recommendations for hand operatedsprayers presented below. Spray emergedweeds that are actively growing at anytimeof the season. On newly established lawns,apply Gordon’s Brushmaster® Herbicideafter the grass has been mowed at least 3 times. Do not water the lawn within 24 hours after application and observe useprecautions.

Limitations on spot treatments for ornamental turfgrass: Spot treatment is defined as a treatmentarea no greater than 1,000 sq. ft. per acre.The maximum application rate is 1.5 fl. oz.per 1,000 sq. ft. per application. Themaximum number of spot treatments islimited to 2 per year with a minimum of 30 days between applications.

4. Spray Drift ManagementA variety of factors including weatherconditions (e.g., wind direction, windspeed, temperature, relative humidity) andmethod of ground application can influencepesticide drift. The applicator must evaluateall factors and make appropriate adjust-ments when applying this product.

Wind SpeedDo not apply at wind speeds greater than10 mph. Only apply this product if thewind direction favors on-target depositionand there are not sensitive areas (including,but not limited to, bodies of water, knownhabitat for nontarget species, nontargetcrops) within 250 feet downwind.

Temperature InversionsIf applying at wind speeds less than 3 mph,the applicator must determine if: a) condi-tions of temperature inversion exist, or b)stable atmospheric conditions exist at orbelow nozzle height. Do not make applica-tions into areas of temperature inversionsor stable atmospheric conditions.

Susceptible PlantsDo not apply under circumstances wherespray drift may occur to food, forage, orother plantings that might be damaged orcrops thereof rendered unfit for sale, use orconsumption. Susceptible crops include, butare not limited to, cotton, okra, flowers,grapes ( in growing stage), fruit trees(foliage), soybeans (vegetative stage), orna-mentals, sunflowers, tomatoes, beans, andother vegetab les, or tobacco. Smal lamounts of spray drift that might not bevisible may injure susceptible broadleafplants.

Other State and Local RequirementsApplicators must follow all state and localpesticide drift requirements regarding

application of 2,4-D herbicides. Wherestates have more stringent regulations, theymust be observed.

2,4-D esters may volatilize during condi-tions of low humidity and high tempera-tures. Do not apply during conditions oflow humidity and high temperatures.

EquipmentAll ground application equipment must beproperly maintained and calibrated usingappropriate carriers or surrogates. Do notapply with a nozzle height greater than 4 feet above the target site. Aerial applica-tions of this product are prohibited.

STORAGE AND DISPOSAL

Do not contaminate water, food, or feedby storage and disposal

PESTICIDE STORAGE: Keep fromfreezing. Store in original container in alocked storage area inaccessible to children and pets.

PESTICIDE DISPOSAL: Pesticidewastes are toxic. Improper disposal ofexcess pesticide, spray mixture, orrinsate is a violation of Federal law.
