These days, Madonna still reigns in the spotlight and continues churning out the tunes at an impressive 48 and she is still so hot. Madonna’s formal adoption of 23 month old African toddler, David Banda is in trouble after the singer was accused of providing travel funds for the Malawian official who is expected to review the case. In what is believed as a bribe, there have been several reports claiming that David could be returned home to his village if the accusation is true. Elvis has long since left the building Last Thursday marked the 30th Anniversay for the King, Elvis Presely. Thousands came to Graceland to mourn and commerate a long 30 years without the King. There were tens of thousands of people who attended the biggest candelit vigil, with poeple coming from all across the world, young and old. He changed the way people thought about music and made an indelible mark on American culture. “Before there was Elvis, there was nothing,” John Lennon once said. An artist’s muse Upon meeting Lucy Rose one realises that the truly talented artist has an energetic and bubbly personality that is quite intoxicating. Why wouldn’t’ she be excited? Her stunning paintings are generating such praise and excitement for anyone who views them. Lucy Rose grew up in New Zealand and has a passion for horses and the Snowy Mountains, inspiring themes that appear in all of her masterpieces. After completing a media and communications degree at Massey University, Lucy spent some years travelling the mountains of Austria, Canada and South Island New Zealand before moving to Australia ten years ago. Lucy claims that it was her love of the Snowy Mountains that have allowed her to create such real life works. Lucy spent several months travelling the Australian outback with her partner Bushy and both have made a home on the aesthetic hills of Snowy River. “It’s my love of the mountains, that’s what it is and the Australian heritage that surrounds this entire area …its my life,” Lucy said. Never short of inspiration Lucy admits that she does not sketch her paintings first, she heads straight to the canvas and picks up her knife and off she goes. The outcome of her work has even amazed herself, and humbly admits that she was never aware that she could paint like this. Music and film are another source of her inspiration and states proudly, “I know the entire Man From Snowy River off by heart”. Not only do the paintings encompass a ‘wow’ factor in their actual size and the techniques applied, it’s about the themes that drive Lucy, such as the mountains, snow and horses which create a romantic feel to them. The paintings are a reflection of life here in the Snowies and Lucy never considered herself as much of a romantic before, however her paintings do illustrate otherwise. She has quite the collection of paintings, such as her reappearing mountain man and mountain girl on horseback breaking up a mob of brumbies. What resonates in each painting is her love of the mountainside and the distinct ways of the bushman that only belong to Australian heritage. On one of her works, titled the ‘Morning Mist’ the painting contains five layers with the first layer consisting of oil, which has been applied with a knife. Once the oil dries, she then returns to her canvas to create the other layers with a paintbrush. All her individual pieces contain such depth and are produced on the highest quality of museum grade, archival canvas. Lucy admits that the paintings are large, certainly a staging aspect that helps add to the mystique of the themes and the overall artwork. Lucy has had a lot of support surrounding her work and some of her collection can be viewed at the JK Gallery in Thredbo as well as on her personal website. The JK Gallery contains both the original and the Gicle’e (g-clay) limited editions of Lucy’s work. The paintings are remarkable in their individual size and story in which they tell and have allowed the artist to sell them for fetching prices with a number of affluent art buyers interested in her work. The quality of her work has been applauded by art lovers and connoisseurs and has been receiving plenty of global interest. The budding artist has had immense support from her partner Bushy and happily states that she is excited about the future. “I am a romantic, I just get a vibe and off I go” For more information on Lucy Rose and her work, please go to her website www.lucyrose- art.com and head up to the JK Gallery in Thredbo to view some of her inspirational work.

An artist’s museUpon meeting Lucy Rose one realises that the truly talented artist has an energetic and bubbly personality that is quite intoxicating.

Why wouldn’t’ she be excited? Her stunning paintings are generating such praise and excitement for anyone who views them. Lucy Rose grew up in New Zealand and has a passion for horses and the Snowy Mountains, inspiring themes that appear in all of her masterpieces.
