GET INVOLVED IN THE SCHOOL BANKING PROGRAMME

Holy Spirit is excited to offer the Commonwealth Bank School

Banking programme to all students.

School Banking is a fun, interactive and engaging way for young

Australians to learn about money and develop good savings

habits. Children who deposit money into their Youthsaver

they can save up and redeem for exciting rewards.

The rewards available during 2018 are:

Twister Power Handball

Secret Scratch Pad

Sparkle Glitter Pens

School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. Our

deposits processed per student as well as an Annual Contribution

which is based on the number of students who made at least one

School Banking deposit in the prior year.

SCHOOL COUNSELLING PROGRAMME

Hi, my name is Sarah Hogg and I am the School Counsellor

from CatholicCare NT. I am located at Holy Spirit Catholic

Primary School one day a week on Thursdays, and I'm here to

provide students with support and emotional well-being.

Through the School Counselling Programme during a

counselling session I conduct Child Centred Play Therapy

modality which is a developmentally appropriate, evidenced

based, therapeutic intervention for school aged children from

3-11 years old. This approach is based on the belief that "play is

therapy" for children, like when talk therapy is for adults

who talk through their problems to try and solve them. Here in

play therapy, children can play through their problems to

process and solve them.

What is Play Therapy?

Play therapy builds on the child’s inner resources and strengths,

which are supported by the therapeutic relationship to bring

about growth, development and healing in the child. Play

therapy helps children develop confidence and positive self-

esteem, find healthier ways of communicating and can promote

resilience and coping, in ways that are appropriate to their age

and developmental stage.

The following are some reasons for referrals that your child

may be struggling with. Play Therapy can be an effective

therapeutic approach which can be accessed by referring to the

School Counselling

Program;

- Divorce & separation of parents

- Anxiety & depression

- Low self-esteem & self confidence

- Social difficulties

- Angry & aggressive behavior

- Trauma & abuse

- Grief & loss

- Autism spectrum disorder

- Attachment issues

Play therapy is a therapeutic relationship between a child and a

therapist who provides selected play materials and a safe place

for the child to express and explore self (feelings, thoughts,

experiences and behaviours) through the process of play. Toys

are used like words by children and play is their language.

Referrals can be made through contacting the school office,

principal, teachers and the School Counsellor.
