This was an extremely different and rewarding engagement. It was the first interview skills day held and aimed to increase the pupil’s preparation for the “real world”. It involved students in Year 11 as they start to make decisions about future career goals and college/ A Level choices. It was also to give greater confidence to the pupils, enabling them to gain very valuable experience when it comes to the interview process.

The school had arranged for local companies to be part of the interviewing panel, across a range of occupations. There was a list of questions and the students were asked to present themselves accordingly. Each panel was asked to give feedback and select a “star pupil”. During the afternoon I presented the star pupils with their certificates. Overall there was a huge amount of preparation behind the scenes, every child had the opportunity of undertaking a job interview. I must congratulate Sandhurst School for their planning in making this a successful day for the future of their pupils.

On 8th February I was invited to attend the BVCT Annual General Meeting. This meeting is always something to look forward to and is the third AGM I have attended as I find their work interesting. They always manage to find a very engaging speaker. This year we were informed about swifts, their migration patterns and included some stunning photographs.

The meeting was held in the Community Hall as numbers had grown, this allowed some display space for connected groups such as the Sandhurst Camera Club. Later in the year their annual walk is “Beat the Bounds” of Yateley which I will be joining.

Late November and December are busy times for every-one, and this year my diary was packed. These events included opening Sandhurst Crafters Fayre in Owlsmoor. They meet monthly at Pistachios in the Park to share ide-as, tips and advice. I was amazed to see a very wide range of high quality crafts. There were some lovely designs, which have inspired me to get crafty.

I had the privilege of switching on the Christmas lights in the Memorial Park joined by Churches Together and the Community choir. It was a very cold evening but dry. Fa-ther Christmas came and gave out sweets to the local chil-dren.

The two local pantomimes this year were both “Beauty and the Beast” performed at South Hill Park and the John

Nike Leisuresport Complex. Two very contrasting interpre-tations and both very enjoyable. It was lovely to see so many local brownies and guides from Sandhurst at South Hill Park enjoying themselves.

Another engagement was visiting the St Michaels’s Church Christmas Tree Fayre which was inspiring; so much so I went back the next day with a friend. There was a range of Christmas trees decorated by various organisations from Sandhurst. One of my favourites was by the Sandhurst Gardening Club complete with the fruits of their labour.

December ended with Christmas lunch at the Day Centre, the staff and trustees of the Day Centre had worked very hard in providing Christmas lunch for everyone, combined with entertainment, a raffle and prizes for their members.

At our Neighbourhood Action Group meeting in January, Thames Valley Police proposed engagement in a Speedwatch operation in two locations in Little Sandhurst. This operation was undertaken on 17th January supported by Cllr Jean Bettison, Cllr Michael Brossard and PCSO Ann-Marie Graham of TVP.Using the SID (Speed Indication Device) set at 30 m.p.h. the following statistics arose from a 45 minutemeasurement: • Crowthorne Road north by Harts Leap Close:

161 vehicles recorded with 5% at 32 m.p.h. or higher (36 m.p.h. was the greatest speed recorded)

• Wokingham Road by Maybrick Close: 163 vehicles recorded with 22.7% at 32 m.p.h. or higher (43 m.p.h. was the greatest speed recorded)

The 45 motorists recorded at speeds of 32 m.p.h. or above will all receive a letter from TVP to remind them of their responsibility. We will review these findings with TVP at our next Neighbourhood Action Group meeting on Wednesday 11th April.

Sandhurst Freedom March 23 June 2018Stall SpacesI’m sure you all know that the Sandhurst Freedom March is the opportunity for the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) to exercise their right to the freedom of the borough. We plan to make this a fun day for all community spectators with a packed programme of activities, displays and performances, but if you wish to get further involved, read on.

With a large turnout expected, why not take advantage and apply for a community stall space to advertise and recruit for your club, group or association. Alternatively if you wish to display and sell your wares you can do this by applying for a commercial stall space. Stall spaces will be available on Jubilee Field and are reasonably priced at £20.00 for community and £40.00 for commercial, forms are available from the council offices on 01252 879060 or [email protected]

Road ClosuresThe March element of the day will take place from RMAS College Town gate to the Memorial Park and will involve temporary road closures to allow safe passage. Please be aware that between 1.00pm and 2.00pm there will be local traffic disruption as Yorktown Road from the Laundry Lane roundabout westbound to the Memorial Park is closed to vehicular movements along with the 20 odd feeder roads. The intention is that once the march has passed through a section, a rolling release will be applied. Similarly traffic will be held at the Swan Lane roundabout with Yorktown Road and feeder roads closed to vehicular movements eastbound to the Memorial Park.

The safety of spectators and participants is our utmost concern, I’m sure you understand the need to control traffic movements with any disruption kept to a minimum. We will be writing to businesses along the route advising them to plan accordingly.
