Kanazawa City is one of the most beautiful cities in Japan, having many attractive spotsand very delicious food. I trust that the 21st PSI conference in Kanazawa will provideeveryone with an ample opportunity to meet and discuss in comfortable surroundings. I amlooking forward to your participation and contribution.

Noriyasu OHNOChair, 21st PSI Local Organizing Committee

Kanazawa CityKanazawa is a leading tourist city where 7

million tourists visit every year. It was a greatcastle town ruled by an influential leader from the17th century to the second half of the 19thcentury.

Kanazawa has not suffered from any wardevastation or big natural disaster. Therefore,Kanazawa maintains rows of historical housesand inherits traditional handicrafts and traditionalperforming arts. Kanazawa was registered as aCity of Crafts of UNESCO's Creative CitiesNetwork in June 2009.

Kanazawa has been designated as anInternational Convention City by the JapaneseMinistry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport andTourism.

Welcome Letter from the 21th PSI Local Organizing CommitteeOn behalf of the Local Organizing Committee, I cordially invite you to attend the 21st International

Conference on Plasma Surface Interactions in Controlled Fusion Devices (21 st PSI) held on May 26through 30, 2014 at Kanazawa City in Japan.

The PSI conference series has a long history starting from the first PSI in Argonne (USA) in 1974 tothe previous PSI in Aachen (Germany) as a biannual event. Thanks to the great efforts by the previousorganizing committees at various places, the PSI conference has been successfully organized tocontribute so much to the progress of research on plasma surface interactions in fusion devices. In theera of ITER and DEMO, the role of the PSI conference becomes more and more important.
