The season is of delight, music, laughter, family, hugs and gift-giving! This is not, however, a reason to slow down and let go the reins of service for humanity. It is, as a matter of fact, doubling our efforts, having more waking hours and pocket dipping for those whose lives we wish to make a difference for.

Let us have this time, the RCB Christmas Night, our family fellowship! Bring out the elves, dwarfs and what have you from your closets and dazzle everyone! Enjoy the family presentations, the melodious air of the RCB Chorale, the games, the raffle, the dinner, the gifts, wine and songs!

Tonight is about family, spirituality and cheers rolled into one! And here comes, Happy New Year!

Of course the RCB Chorale is taking their time, heart and music into your homes. Let us welcome them and support their noble cause, to end polio now! This is one time we should be overly generous fellow Rotarians…...it is just so well worth it!

Before the year ends, our Club will visit our adopted Barangay, Barangay Lucnab, to bring cheer and joy! Many families will appreciate and enjoy our gift of bringing water to their homes! The community is most grateful for the available and continuous water supply to the community building and to the homes of many. Secondly, the project strengthened the spirit of unity, bayanihan and self-help among the community members. The constituents voluntarily participated to complete the water system project despite their regular work commitments

Today is the schedule for the turn-over of the water supply project to the RCC of Lucnab. To RCC Lucnab, thank you, too, for giving the Rotary Club of Baguio the opportunity to serve you We look forward working and partnering with your community for many more worthy projects.

Finally, we express our deepest sympathy to PP Chris and RAPP Maya Peralta and family for the repose of their father, Paterno Mejico Peralta, who passed on last December 11, 2012. The interment is today, December 15, 2012 in San Jose, Nueva Ecija. To the Peralta Family, you are in our prayers!

“Pasko na Sinta ko! Lumalamig nanaman ang simoy ng hangin, halika na dito at magyakapan tayo!”

Just after our chorale practice and as we were walking towards our ride, the night gave us this season’s chill - the cold front affecting the night’s weather. And because we just came from a merry and jollying mood in singing Christmas songs, that’s when it triggered me, Christmas is indeed around the corner

As a young kid in Baguio, Christmas was unique. Not only because of its chilling weather, Baguio smelt of pine everytime there is a chilling wind. At Mt. Sto. Tomas, the radars is decorated with Christmas lights shaped into a star, seen almost anywhere in Baguio. The locals will usually joke that those two big radars are electric fans, fanning a chill wind towards Baguio. But sure, time changed and a lot of things is not usually the way it is I do even remember that as early as November, the sounds of firecrackers deafens us and it even gets louder as Christmas day gets nearer But Christmas is always Christmas when you are with your special someones!

Pres. Libby, in her last week’s article, mentioned about the best gift she had. What’s more in having a privilege to be of service, the capabilty of helping out, to be trained as a leader and to have a prestigious family in Rotary. As a gift you have recieved and you have shared with me as a gift, thank you, Pres. Libby!

Memorizing notes is not that easy. But the efforts of the RCB Chorale is unimaginable. Even after a tiring day, they all still find time to practice, to devote themselves in merry caroling. Like young kids carolling in the streets, the RCB Chorale knows that through this serenades, they can share and delight us with a Christmas spirit I don’t usually sing, but thanks RCB Chorale, specially to PP Benny - your encouragement and for training us (vocalizing and pitching the right note), it’s a already a gift from you, that I would not just have from anyone. Thank you!

I sure had a good laugh with my funny gift from last time, it’s a Joke Book. I collect books and this one is a good addition to my collection. And as an artist, I am moody, I may have this book always with me - you know, to cheer me up, just in case. Thanks, you sure did figured it out.

Thanks Rotary Club of Baguio, for the gift of friendship! Season’s Greeting to everyone and enjoy the Holidays!

Why We Put Angels On Top Of Christmas Trees

One Christmas, a long time ago, Santa Claus was getting ready for his annual trip; butthere were problems …… everywhere.Four of his elves were away sick and the trainee elves did not produce the toys as fast asthe regular ones. So, Santa was beginning to feel the pressure of being behind schedule. Then, Mrs. Claus popped in to tell Santa that her mother was coming to stay for Christmas; which stressed him even more. After a while, he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about togive birth and two had jumped the fence and run away, heaven knows where to

Then, when he began to load the sleigh one of the boards broke and several large toy- bags fell to the ground, scattering their contents all over the place. Needless to say, Santawas not in the best of moods.Suddenly, the doorbell rang and he went to the door expecting another problem. Butwhen he opened it, there was a little angel with a great big Christmas tree that she had brought especially to cheer him up.The angel greeted him very cheerfully, “Merry Christmas Santa Claus. Isn’t it just awonderful day? I have a beautiful tree for you. See, isn’t it just the loveliest Christmastree you’ve ever seen? Where would you like me to put it?”

Thus began the tradition of the little angel on top of the Christmas tree

Sometimes the most obvious choices for potential club members are the people we’re closest to, “yet we look right past them,” says Past District Governor Jennifer Jones, who invited her parents to Rotary activities but hadn’t considered asking them to join.

Fortunately, a fellow club member and friend took the initiative. And four years after joining the Rotary Club of Windsor-Roseland, Ontario, Canada, Jennifer’s mother, Joyce, is serving as its president.

“I’ll never forget my last official task as district governor: inducting my mom into Rotary,” says Jennifer. “She had been living Rotary for many years, attending district conferences, taking part in fundraisers, and traveling as a literacy volunteer to Guatemala She saw service in action.” Joining the club was the natural next step

While spouses, children, and siblings all are logical choices for Rotary involvement, our parents often are the ones with extra time -- as well as a lifetime of experiences and skills -- to share with Rotary.

“Through Rotary we’ve shared many special times together, and each of them has been made more memorable because we’ve done them together,” says Jennifer Encouraging service

Jennifer credits her parents with cultivating a sense of service in her She organized carnivals in the backyard to raise money to fight muscular dystrophy, opened a lemonade stand, made her own greeting cards to sell door-to-door, and collected pop bottles and coins for UNICEF. Through it all, her parents were “there to celebrate the victories, as well as the lessons that were born out of these experiences,” says Jennifer.

In October, her mother was there again when Jennifer and her husband, Nick Krayacich -- who is president of the Rotary Club of LaSalle-Centennial -- were inducted into the Arch C. Klumph Society. Her father, John, was unable to attend the ceremony, but Joyce represented them both

“I was so honored to be in front of the audience of

dignitaries sharing my daughter’s story,” says Joyce. “It was a special time for the two of us.”

Jennifer, who is president and CEO of a television production company, has served as club president, governor of District 6400 (part of Ontario and part of Michigan, USA), and district public relations chair.

Among their many activities and projects, Jennifer and Nick -- both Rotary Foundation alumni -- have established an annual peace symposium at Duke University to support Rotary Peace Fellows and to publicize the program. They also are creating a pooled endowment that will generate revenue for their district to use for water projects. From “mom” to “president”

As for Joyce, she became involved in her club’s literacy and international service committees, helped with club fundraisers, and continued to travel to Guatemala to distribute books to Mayan schools. “When I joined Rotary, I jumped in with both feet,” she says.

“If you’re going to be a Rotarian, that’s the way to do it — don’t just take up space on a chair,” she declares.

Yet when she was approached about becoming club president, she thought her fellow club members were joking. But she accepted because she didn’t want to regret not taking on this important role

“And I love it!” she says. “I find it such a joy serving our club and serving side by side with my daughter.”

Jennifer is also pleased with the arrangement: “All my life she’s been my confidante and sounding board. Now, in her role as president, she looks to me for advice. It’s added another level of depth to our relationship.”
