THOUGHTS ON THE GOSPEL

We need to totally trust Jesus ‘There are a number of lessons from today’s reading. SPECIAL INFORMATION AND WIDER COMMUNITY EVENTS MORNING TEA: Morning Tea will be served at the Parish Centre this weekend after the 9.30am Mass. All are welcome!

VOCATIONS ENQUIRY EVENING—This weekend (Sunday) : If you think and feel that the Lord may be calling you to dedicate yourself to a life of fruitful service of God's holy people as his Priest then do not delay. St Charles Seminary at 30 Meadow Street Guildford will once more host its annual Vocations Enquiry Evening on THIS Sunday 17

th August

2014 starting at 4:00pm. Come and meet Seminarians and join other young and not so young men who are also discerning a possible call to the Priesthood in a serene and prayerful setting. Register your interest call Fr Jean-Noel Marie 9279 1310.

PLEASE PRAY FOR ALL THE SOULS OF THOSE WHO ARE RECENTLY DECEASED: especially Elizabeth Culleton. Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord and may Perpetual Light shine upon them. Your Bible Questions Answered: “Did the miracles of Jesus reported in the Bible happen or not?” For the answer, to submit your own Bible question, or for the August edition of “At Home With Your Bible,” visit www.thebiblicalfoundation.org.au. Next Bible Studies at Holy Family Kalamunda will be 1st Oct at 7pm studying EZRA.

Kalamunda’s Carols by Candlelight in Stirk Park is going to be a little different this year. There will be a voluntary community choir which will be accompanied by a small local band. Anyone aged 10 – 100 is welcome to join. Carols by Candlelight is on Sunday 14 December at 7.00pm. We would like the choir to rehearse four times (approximately once a fortnight) from late October to mid-December. Please register your interest with Cyrlene at Lesmurdie Baptist Church on 9291 9866 or [email protected] by Monday, 8

th September 2014.

SERVICE MINISTRY: Thank you to all those who have registered a willingness to help with one or more areas of serving the parish. We are still in great need of more proclaimers/readers (you just need to be able to read clearly), and money collectors at Mass, (two people stand up twice and distribute the collection baskets and then process to the altar with the offertory items—this is quite an easy task that could be undertaken by families). There is also a need for some more people on the Church cleaning roster as those who are on the list are being rostered quite often and that is unfair to them. Thank you if you think that you can help. The sheets for writing on are still at the back of the church.

Parishioners, I wish to advise that Mrs. Mary Syme has tendered her resignation form the position of Parish Administration Assistant. Mary ceases duties C.O.B. on the 28

READINGS FOR THIS SUNDAY

Next Week’s Readings: 21st SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME

First Reading: Isaiah 22:19-23

Second Reading: Romans 11:33-36

Gospel: Matthew 16:13-20

Responsorial Psalm Psalm 66:2-3 5-6. 8.

R. v.4

(R.) O God, let all the nations praise

you! Gospel Acclamation Mathew 4:23 Alleluia, alleluia! Jesus preached the Good News of the kingdom and healed all who were sick. Alleluia! Gospel Mathew 15:21-28 Woman, you have great faith.

Jesus left Gennesaret and withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. Then out came a Canaanite woman from that district and started shouting, ‘Sir, Son of David, take pity on me. My daughter is tormented by a devil.’ But he answered her not a word. And his disciples went and pleaded with him. ‘Give her what she wants,’ they said ‘because she is shouting after us.’ He said in reply, ‘I was sent only to the lost sheep of the House of Israel.’ But the woman had come up and was kneeling at his feet. ‘Lord,’ she said ‘help me.’ He replied, ‘It is not fair to take the children’s food and throw it to the house-dogs.’ She retorted, ‘Ah yes, sir; but even house-dogs can eat the scraps that fall from their master’s table.’ Then Jesus answered her, ‘Woman, you have great faith. Let your wish be granted.’ And from that moment her daughter was well again.
