THE SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME — JULY 21, 2019

Biblical Fast Food

Our idea of fast food is that you drive your car to a local chain, you pull up to the giant menu board with the scratchy speaker system, you yell out your order, you drive to the window, and you pay your money. Within minutes, you have your food and you speed away. It is fast.

In the Book of Genesis, there is a different account of fast food service. Some mysterious visitors came to see Abraham and Sarah. Abraham realized that there was something divine about their presence. He immediately offered hospitality: a bath, a rest, and a meal. They agreed. But Sarah had to come up with some food, fast.

She baked rolls from fine flour. A servant slaughtered and prepared a juicy steer. The curds and milk were easier, but the basic ingredients of a hamburger, bread and meat, had to be prepared from scratch on the spot. By our standards, not fast food—but pretty impressive for its day. As a result of his hospitality, Abraham received from God the gift he had waited for all his life: a son, Isaac, whom he would love.

When strangers or friends drop by, we have the opportunity to offer hospitality. Sometimes we are so busy that our primary hope is they will leave as soon as possible. But there is another solution. We can offer hospitality. The blessing we receive may be the one we have desired all life long.

THE SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME — JULY 21, 2019

Are You Thirsting For God?

Are you someone who would like to learn more about your Catholic Faith? Do you know someone not bap-tized or baptized in a non-Catholic Christian tradition, who is thirsting for what it means to become Catholic?

Do you know someone already Catholic but has not yet received Confirmation & Communion?

Others may be thirsting too…

For each of us faith is a journey marked with moments of conversion along the way…we move from unbelief to initial faith, from sin to repentance, from painful isolation to the joyful experience of a loving community, from fear to love.

Faith, conversion, repentance, celebration and community ---five basic elements that are present in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). The RCIA provides a setting where the journey of faith and moments of conversion can be celebrated within the local Church community.

RCIA is a place to ask questions and seek understanding. Come and See! Invite a friend! All are Welcome! RCIA meets Sunday’s at Little Flower School from 10:15 A.M. to 11:15 A.M.

For more information, contact the Parish Office at (301)994-0525.

Bible Study will be taking a recess until September.

Please look in the bulletin for the exact date we will

resume our studies and consider joining us on

Wednesday evenings. Have a happy and safe

summer!

Holy Face Faith Formation classes have

ended for this school year and I would like

to thank the students, families, catechists

and teen helpers. The dedication of our

parish community is evident each week

that we gather at Mass and for classes.

Wishing everyone a blessed and spiritually

fulfilling break!
