For the theatre's 50th Anniversary (zon) Theatre Three's main stage has been named the NORMA YOUNG ARENA STAGE in honor of the theatre's founding artistic director. Ms. Young, a Dallas native, served the theatre as director, leading actress and administrator from the the­atre's founding in 1961 until her death in 1998.

Theatre Three thrives on her legacy of artistic and intel­lectual vigor, her wisdom and her continuous quest for the perfect synthesis of authors, actors and audiences.

About the Playwright Jay Presson AllenPLAYWRIGHT

Jay Presson Allen, Oscar­nominated screenwriter was born Jacqueline Presson in San Angelo, Texas on March 3. 19:z2. At the ag of 18, shedecided to become an actressin New York City. The charmsoflhe profession soon paledand he married in I he early1940s, moving to soutl1emCalifornia. Disenchanted withacting, she saw w:ri.ting as away of becoming financiallyindependent and enablfag to leave her unhappy marriage.Her first nove1$filing_Rio_lwas published in 1948. Sheeventually divorced herhusband and in r955. shemarried Lewis Allen. a readerat the office of Broadwayproducer Bob Whitehead.

She cventuaHy w�otc anotl1er play. Tiu: First Wife. that was turned into the 1963 film Wives arid Lovers. She optioned Muriel Spark's novel TIie; Prime of Mis$]Mn Brodinnd wrote a dramatization. which was produced in London in 1966 and was a success, making the transfer- to both Broadway and the silver screen. Maggie Smith won her first Oscar playing lean Brodie. Allen had another success on Broadway with her play 40

Allen had to give struct1:1re to the story for the movie, but

she clashed with Fosse, whom she found a depressive who drained the script of humor. She eventually quit but was given the credit for the script, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award.

Other projects lhat Presson worked on were F1111ny Lady, the r974 sequel to Funny Girl, and tlte TV series Family_ She adapted her 1969 novel )!,I�! Tell Me What Your Want for movie director Sidney Lumet, which was the first of four projects they collaborated on. She was nominated for an Oscar for her adaptation of Robert Daley's novel Prince q_(__the �_iJy, directed byLun1et. Her third collaboration was an adaptation oflra Levin's play Deathtrap. She also worked uncredited on Lumet's The Verdict rewriting David Mamet's script.

She worked on the adaptations of A Utlfo Family B14Si1ms and La Cagii Aiix Folles on Broadway and tJ,e TV series Hotlui1�e. She wrote a biographical play about Truman Capote, Tru, which made it to Broadway in 1991. Jay Presson Allen died on May I, 2006 in N IV York City. She was 84 years old.

Ms. Van Kleeck is Theatre Three's managingd.irector and is a.lso a producer with One Thirty Productions. Most recently. Marty directed the hit production Shear Madn�ss In the Theai-re Too space. She has also appeared on stage, in film and in numerous commercials.

Jaston Williams TRUMAN

CAPOTE Jaston Williams is well known to Dallas-Ft. Worth area audiences for his involvement as playwright and actor in the Greater Tuna Quartet which played on and off Broadway

and toured for over thirty years as well in such venues as D.Cs Kennedy Center, Ford Theatre, National Theatre and Warner Theatres, Houstons Alley Theatre, Atlanta's Alliance, San Franciscos ACT, the Denver Center and L.As Pasadena Playhouse, The American Spoleto Festival, The Edinburg International Arts Festival to name a few. He performed twice at the White House at the request of President George H.W. and Barbara Bush. For his work in the Tuna plays, he has received the L.A. Dramalogue Award, The San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Award and five nominations for D.Cs Helen Hayes Award. More recently he has performed his solo auto-biographacle plays, I'm Not Lying, Blame it on Valentine and Camping With Gasoline to critical acclaim at such venues as The Kennedy Center, L.As NOHO Arts Center, The Eisemann Center in Richardson and Ft. Worths Casa Manana among others. His most recent show, Maid Marian in a Stolen Car, a chronicle of his life in the theatre, opened in Austin recently at ZACH Theatre and has just been honored with The Central Texas Theatre Awards for Best Actor, Best Play and best non-traditional work. In 2013, Mr. Williams wa's selected as one of the recipients for the Texas Medal of the Arts. This production ofTru was produced at ZACH Theatre in Austin and was directed by his lifelong friend and mentor the late Larry Randolph. When not performing, he spends time as guest lecturer at the Texas Tech Department of Theatre and Dance.
